[Ricochet Robots] A puzzle a day keeps the robot doctor away

edited March 2019 in Critical Failures
Hey I hear you like solving spatial puzzles!

Rules: You need to move the selected robot to the selected target, which is determined by the goal token in the center of the board (color and symbol). Robots move in a straight line horizontally or vertically until they hit something (a wall or another robot). Each such move counts as one move. The goal is to move the selected robot to its' goal in the fewest possible moves. The robots are randomly placed at the beginning of the game. The end position for the robots after getting the target robot to the goal is the start position for the next puzzle.

The actual game has a time element to it which is not going to be replicated here. I'm going to check for answers each afternoon(ish), and whoever has posted a correct answer that is the fewest moves will get a point. There are 17 goal tokens, so we'll just go through them all and whoever has the most points at the end wins. Feel free to drop in or out as we go. Points will be awarded and new puzzles posted sometime in the afternoon EST each day.

You only get one answer submission, and we're going to use the honor system here that no one is going to look at other people's answers before submitting. Post answers in the thread in this format please:

So... if the end state is the next start state..
We should aim for non-target robots to end on the outside of the maze for bonus points right?

(Read: to make them as useless as possible)

It's hard to know what will be useful since the goal token is random yknow.

  • VyolynceVyolynce Registered User regular
For the first several rounds, anyway.

Please put the number of moves the spoiler as well, so no one gets any hints before they submit their answer

  • discriderdiscrider Registered User regular
Yeah, looks ok @Elvenshae , but you should spoil your move count

  • Jam WarriorJam Warrior Registered User regular
Nice to see an alternative at the same move count.

    Puzzle #2:
I can get six moves in two different ways:

    #1:
    Blue left
    Blue down
    Blue Right
    Green down
    Green Right
    Green Up

    Green Up
    Red Right
    Red Down
    Green Right
    Green Down
    Green Left

I guess #1 will be my "official" answer.

Hey Pook is it possible to put the new puzzle in a normal post as well as the OP? Having to scroll all the way up is going to get tiring.

    Jeeezus.

Found a few 7s involving moving multiple bots, checked Vyolynce’s answer so I could use a different one to his, and see he has a much simpler better answer.

    It’s so obvious with hindsight!
