I enjoyed the beta but this is not a $90 upgrade over The Division.
The greater proliferation of bullpup rifles (spread across assault rifles, battle rifles, smgs, and DMRs) makes it a totally worthy $90 upgrade over TD1.
But I'm silly that way.

It’s a sequel. Sequels add new environments and iterate in the content and mechanics of the previous game.
It’s like complaining that Doom Eternal is still an FPS.
The Division 1 always seemed like it struggled to make snipers or similar precision weapons relevant on consoles. Which was a really noticeable oversight, since there are clearly a ton of game elements (precision weapons themselves, set items built around them, small but critical weak points on enemies, etc) balanced around them. I (and a ton of other players) just ignored entire classes of weapons or gear sets because the difficulty of using them meant you could never outdamage a well-rolled AR. I tried the sharpshooter in the beta, and again, it's almost impossible to land shots consistently with it, which means I'll likely just ignore one of the three specializations.
Like, it's not impossible to make snipers work on consoles. I just wish Massive would admit that it requires a substantial amount of handling and AA changes from the "clean" PC build to make it work.

Um... what?
It's a completely new setting and world map, larger than the first one.
It's a completely new story with new campaign missions.
New class specializations with new skills.
Overhauled PvP with a completely new progression system.
Completely retooled DZ endgame.
Completely new 8-man raids.
Plus a bunch of other shit I'm sure I'm forgetting.
Like, I genuinely don't know what else you could want out of a sequel to a game like this. This is about as substantial a sequel as I've seen short of just developing a completely different genre of game and slapping the familiar name on it.

Had enough fun with the demo that I think I’ll probably pick this up on PS4. I’d been eyeing anthem for a bit but this seems like an overall less frustrating choice.

yeah... beyond a certain point, there's no point in trying to argue an opinion... given the things you just laid out, that's a hot take that's best left to cool on its own. :pop:

Hey question, @wafflesmagee and me were playing through the beta and we had a blast, but I was wondering if the missions scaled to us only having two people or not. It looked like we could call for reinforcements to get people potentially matching in and helping out on missions but while we did have a few deaths here and there, overall it felt like a good level of challenge and we never felt it necessary to call for help.

The first game had scaling in place in terms of enemy health and such if I remember correctly.

The missions present in the demo I believe are story missions which if its like div 1, can be completed solo without issue. Div 1 also had instances that unlocked later that were group only that were a lot more difficult, I imagine div 2 will have those.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

yeah, it was more health and armor per person, not more enemies.

I played the entirety of The Division 1 solo. I only started to run into issues with the endgame and DLC, but I'm more a story-focused player so I wasn't that into those aspects anyway.

Solo and duo tends to be fine and I can't remember where I heard it but two players was cited as being a bit of a sweet spot when it comes to difficulty as opposed to a full 4-stack.

Unless its a legendary mission. Like legendary missions were not something to be fucked with, with anything less than 4 and people with classified gear sets.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
The demo completely sold me on this game. Now I'm trying to decide on whether I pre-order the standard or gold edition. I know the new story missions, gear, specializations and end game content will be available to non-season pass holders but I noticed that there is exclusive to season pass holders classified assignments. I can't find what the exclusive classified assignments are; has Ubisoft described what these will be anywhere?

I’m sold on the year pass just for instant unlocking of new Specialisations.

Legendary missions in tD1 is actually a good example of where bringing in some random dudes could straight up destroy your chances of clearing a mission due to the enemies getting their hp scaled up and the amount of coordination to drop them increased. Last section on Madison was particularly bad for this.
Actually for me personally, the Year 1 season pass is worth the extra cash right out the door. Every time that I've not bought the season pass for, I end up buying the expansions packs later anyway. (I typically don't buy games that I don't like or I am ambivalent on.) So the extra $60 makes sense (for me).
@Cobalt60@Prohass Are you guys on PSN? I can use more local friends to drop in on :winky:

The difference is this is a Year Pass rather than a Season Pass. You get most of it, including the expansions, for free. The Year Pass gives you 7 days early access to the expansions, instant access to new Specialisations (it’s implied there’s some grind required to unlock them otherwise), those 8 Fall of DC classified missions, and some exclusive projects and cosmetics.

Access to the narrative portions. Which I assume means the missions for story purposes - but any new weapons, specializations, gear score bump etc will be at the time everyone has access.

Well yeah. My point was that if you’re buying the Year Pass for the expansions, you’re just buying a weeks early access. What parts are early access is irrelevant, everyone still gets them for free.

I enjoyed the beta but this is not a $90 upgrade over The Division.
As someone who peaced out of The Division 1 during the DZ end-game grind but before the massive 1.8 patch everything I've seen has this more than worth the investment. I definitely can see someone who experienced TD1 2.0 thinking "Yeah I've already done this."

I'm playing Div 1 right now, albeit the 1-30 progression, and the beta for Div 2 was very different. Mostly the world map, which was a huge improvement over the first game with much more to do. It definitely feels like a sequel rather than an upgrade.
Yup, same here. According to the Ubi website/thingie (technical term) I'm 60% done with the main story of Div 1. My playstyle is "not fast" so I likely won't be able to complete the original game prior to launch. Having said that, I'm likely going to preorder Div 2 this evening and I -am- getting the Teddybear tchotchke. :heartbeat:
As am I! However, I'm also fairly scrub-like as I've just been playing through solo and not really having the gear to take on Legendary or Challenge missions. Shoot, I haven't finished any of the Incursions.
I do also have Division 1 on PS4 and Xbox...MUCH less geared and MUUUUUUCH more prone to swearing at the game because I'm using a controller and not a mouse/keyboard.

If you are on PC, and can’t find a physical PCcopy, use 100 Ubisoft points for 20% off if you have them? Australians can use them on pre orders. $80 is better than $100.
I’d go for the JB deal but I want the Year Pass and Australia only gets the regular edition as a physical PC release.
The excuse I will use to not buy it is not that I have zero need for a new backpack, but because I feel I'd be lying about my blood type and eventually wind up dying due to a botched transfusion.
I finally got my 8th shield (3rd tier of cosmetic items) in Div 1. Seems to me like that's a good stopping point in the game for now so I don't get too burnt out on shootin' and lootin' before the 15th.

Just knocked out some more missions. My mission completion is at 81%, so I'm guessing I've only got 2 left, since there's only 2 on the map I can see.
I kinda overgeared myself so the last few missions have been pretty easy. Difficulty is climbing back up, but I have a feeling I'll knock out these before the weekend.
