I've bought everything but I'm still trying to save up my red orbs in case they add new characters, especially if those characters have $3M taunts of their own.

The combat is terrible the story is atrocious and Dante doesn't act like Dante.

Tonally its off Dante isnt a very fun character and it recycles bosses from DMC1. The combat is apparently not great either

Apparently the guns are so OP that you can just stand there and fire and it’ll juggle enemies to death.

There's a point on the last boss where you can just like, walk over to his side somewhere and he can't hit you with anything or move to target you, so you can just stand there and shoot him until he dies.

I tried playing DMC2 and ended up giving up around mission 6 because it was just so boring.

Finally beat this. Fuck I love mission 19
I always loved the Vergil fights in 3 and this has the same general style and adds a bunch more little touches that make it easier to tell when he's vulnerable, when he stops being vulnerable, etc. Plus having your own summon swords to hit him back with is so satisfying.

Still haven't beaten it without needing at least one gold orb of course but one of these days.

Capcom put out three DLCs yesterday that will unlock stuff early if you don't want to jump through the hoops.

The first one unlocks all three Super forms so you don't have to beat DMD difficulty to get them (probably in preparation for Bloody Palace next week so more people can beat it).

The second one unlocks all the EX Taunts, so you don't have to spend 3 million orbs on each of them.

The last one unlocks V's alternate color as well as the alternate color for a spoiler character. And the spoiler character's name is in the title of the DLC. I guess they've figured it's been long enough since release that they can openly spoil the character's inclusion.

There's also a bundle to get all three of those DLCs.

In addition to that, the preorder colors were also put up for sale.

    Regarding the spoiler character
Pretty much anyone who has played any DMC games knows that Urizen is Vergil from the very get go.

    True.
The plot still seems to want you to think it's a surprise though. Also pairing his alt color with V's in the same DLC may confirm some people's theories before they even play the game if they see that on the page.

It's not a big thing, just seemed odd to me. Besides, you unlock Vergil's color a few missions after you first meet him anyways, so they could have just not bothered selling it since by the time you could actually use it you'll have nearly unlocked it anyways.

Apparently the Bloody Palace is already in the game as modders of the PC version were able to enable it and playthrough it with all three characters.

Details about the Bloody Palace and it's rewards in the spoiler:
Seems to be set up basically the same as the DMC4 one with 101 floors and a time limit.

Beating it earns you a special new taunt for that character. V's taunt has him pose like Vergil and his cane gains a glowing blue edge. Apparently after doing that the damage of his cane attack is greatly increased. Not sure if you lose it when you get hit like how Nero loses his hoodie.

Doesn't appear to have co-op currently, so perhaps the delay was to add that since references to a co-op mode were datamined a while back.

Not sure if they delayed it so they could continue to refine it or add features not present in this version, or if it was simply to fill a window in the marketing department's "post-launch support roadmap."

    I disagree.
The plot just acts like it's a surprise because that's the thing for it to do. You might not figure out that V is the human part straight up, for example. But it is ridiculously telegraphed that Urizen is Vergil.

    Spoiler'd discussion
Pre-release there was a lot of speculation that Urizen was Mundus or (less likely) Sparda, and the game even runs a bit with some of the database entries (one even outright speculating on Urizen's identity that basically mentions everyone except Vergil). Also with the V telling Dante that the new demon is "Your reason" which could apply to them like it does to Vergil.

Of course, the cutscene where Nero loses his arm is right there at the beginning and anyone who has played 3 or 4 knows that dude is Vergil and knows what is up.

I think Capcom did intend for it to be a surprise, they just didn't hide it as well as they thought. They even have a scene end right when V is telling Dante the new demon's real name to try and build suspense to the thing that everyone already figured out.

Though yeah, Dante knew the entire time. The only thing he didn't know was that V could re-merge with Urizen (and/or that he would want to do that instead of defeating him). I do think they were (unsuccessfully) trying to keep V & Urizen's identity a secret though.

On a related "knew the entire time" deal, I did find it funny that if you go back and listen to V and Dante's quotes towards the Cavaliere Angelo that they knew who they were talking to the entire time. I assume if either had met Artemis then they both would have instantly known the deal there as well.

Ugh, time limit. Guess they didn't learn that lesson from DmC. Oh well, maybe someone will mod it out of this one too.

oof that sounds like a problem.

I'd much rather have one where you get rewards for clearing it fast. Still encourages speedrunning without enforcing it.

I haven't tested it myself, but apparently people discovered a secret that lets you play as the shorter-hair/less-scraggily version of Dante that is seen during the prologue time period of the game.

Just hold down LB+RB+LT+RT (or PS4 equivalents) when selecting his costume. Even persists for cutscenes.

Supposedly it also works for V, giving you...
...his sickly, cracked skin appearance from when he is near death.

Haven't heard anything about Nero. Will test things myself tomorrow after I get some sleep.

Haha, I tried the DMC5 demo again after spending a week playing DMC3, and my performance is night and day from before. I'm much more into the rhythm of launching enemies and keeping style up. Still got hit a bunch by Goliath, but I got an S rank on the demo this time. I think I may be ready to get the full game soon.

  • LarsLars Registered User regular
The code works for Dante and seems to persist until you turn the game off (and doesn't seem to be a way to toggle it off without doing that).

However, I couldn't get it to work with V.

I also tried it with Nero but didn't notice anything. I was hoping that for him...
...it would give him back his demon arm whenever you didn't have a breaker equipped, since his demon arm was modeled for the flashback scene and all. Unfortunately it didn't seem to do anything.

I also found out that you do not get your daily login Gold Orb unless you have actually loaded into a mission since the last daily login reward you got. The game also doesn't seem to save your ghost data in missions for longer than a day or two as I haven't been getting Gold Orbs from that either.

Bloody Palace has save & quit and you can practice any level you've previously beaten! No more having to go through an hour and a half of BP to fight a boss with a specific character.

It doesn't seem to use V's bosses. I'm up to level 60 and so far the bosses have been Goliath, Artemis and Cavaliere Angelo. I'm assuming the level 80 and 100 bosses are Malphas and the mission 17 boss and level 101 is the final boss.

  • ViskodViskod Registered User regular
It also lets you use the Super versions of each character with no penalty attached to them. Currently going through it with Super V.

  • PeewiPeewi Registered User regular
Somehow I beat BP on my first try with Nero.

I have no idea how to fight Furies as Nero. Any stage with a Fury I jumped around, hoping not to get hit too much.

You know what’s a lot of fun? Fighting those berserker Hells with Nero’s Buster arm. Oh, you’re purple and immune to being stunned? Don’t care! Suplex!

I picked this up finally. Played the first few missions.

Was I not supposed to know who the homeless arm thief is? Because come on, game. I know who that is.

Is there a way to swap between Nero's currently equipped arms, or do you just gotta blow it up and move on to the next one in line?

He even says “I’m taking this back” about the Yamato. There’s like 2 people in the whole series that could be, and nobody is rooting for Agnus to be the surprise final boss.

Okay, cool. At first it seemed like they were this rare limited resource and I was gonna treat them like gold orbs. But it looks like pickups on the ground are super common and buying them doesn't scale the price, so I'll start blowing through them like candy.
