I don't have any FF background beyond XIV, so I don't have any connection to Dancers necessarily being healers and am fine with Physical Ranged DPS finally getting a third class when they were the only category with just two and the rest either had three or four already. I guess my lack of grounding in series lore also makes me more amenable to the handling of the new races.
it's not that FF dancers are historically healers I think, they're historically supporters of the buffers or debuffer types if anything, it's just that there's a lot more DPS in the queues than healers or tanks.
as for the races, lore-wise no male viera is consistent with all the past games that featured viera, but that's a dumb reason to not have male ones just like it was dumb not having male mithra/miqote in past iterations of that race.
Also it was irritating the way they allowed speculation of male viera to flourish after paris fanfest up to now without doing anything to dissuade it, then did a fakeout reveal for ronso like it was going to be male viera until the last second. Ha ha, you got us, good one guys, eat a dick.
I'm getting rather uncomfortable with porn models as a race. I had XIV pegged as a more inclusive game for the longest time, but I was wrong. I can't really defend my love of the game whilst surrounded by literal bunny girls in revealing outfits. The cop out that there are "lore reasons" is as lazy and disingenuous as Silent breathing through her skin in MGS. Don't fucking lie, you didn't bother with cute male and muscled female character models because so far barely anyone plays as one.
For me the most disappointing part of the festival so far is going to check on the store status just now and finding they still haven't made enough boxes to go around.
I don't know if it's even a waiting list, as in reserving a spot to wait for one, it just gives you a link to get emailed if ever they become in stock again. Yeah I could preorder a different edition now and get the ingame preorder bonuses now, but I like boxes.
I'm still bummed that Dancer isn't a support class but I finally got around to watching the revel video and a) the animations seem pretty neat and b) Square decided to play Vamo'alla Flamenco from FFIX in the background so I'm instantly on board.

Class diversity for a role does not lead to an increase of players performing that role. WoW has tried that for over a decade to fix their tank shortage issue and it’s never worked.

Given that their plan, which had to be decided far in advance in order to have something to show off in trailers, was to release playable Viera ladies and Hrothgar men, they were already in a bit of a no-win situation. If they went with announce Viera, hard confirm that only female Viera will be playable, then everyone is incensed and demanding what the deal is, even if the reason why is that the plan is to also introduce a separate race with male-only characters playable to balance things out. Unless Hrothgar were ready to announce then and there in simultaneous reveals, they can't really go with anything other than "Stay tuned" without tipping or spoiling that announcement.
That or maybe SE honestly assumed people would look at a Viera reveal in which all characters shown are women and think, "Oh, they're doing that again" instead of "No, they can't possibly be doing that again."

a new healer doesn't have to get new healer players into the playstyle, it just has to give players who enjoy healing something exciting and fun by offering a new class
can guarantee you gunbreaker and dark knight do not/did not meaningfully long term increase the number of tanks
