I played the new coop stuff last night, after having been away from OW for a bit. I'm sad that I didn't save enough money for that awesome Hammond intro, but maybe I'll get lucky.
Anyway, I was playing Mercy and at the part where you escort the payload, not a single player was staying near it. I kept trying to move it along then run way across the map to heal, then run back to move the truck. It took forever to get the truck to the end.
Is there any reason people would not be on the payload or did they just somehow (all level 67 or higher) not know how a payload works?
Again, I've been away a while so maybe I missed something obvious.
I think it's just because in story mode, the enemies start so far away from the payload and (on normal/hard at least) they don't come to you until you're like 1/3 of the way. So everyone just runs away from the payload because, surprise, shooting things is more fun than dancing on the payload until it reaches enemies.

If you really wanna wreck this event in Any Heroes mode? Orisa. Orisa trivializes literally every encounter.
Orisa, Baptiste, Bastion, Hanzo I think
A buddy of mine did a successful PUG legendary run.
Orisa, Bastion, Mei (him), Mercy
EDIT - basically, Mei can freeze literally every baddie and run as counter-sniper and set up barriers for when Orisa's barrier is on cooldown or a heavy is looking to charge and your Orisa isn't on her game (or has Fortify on cooldown). But yeah, Orisa tends to be stupidly strong in this event.

I've also stated before that I think a simple change that would make a huge difference is just disabling premades during your placement matches. No more terrible players being carried by their friends. No more smurfing by diamond+ who were dragged down by their terrible friends. Everyone gets placed a lot closer to their true rating.
I know the chance of this happening would be pretty much nil but I recently encountered pretty much the optimally-worst case scenario where I got placed into a gold game against a team with a silver-platinum duo, and it was incredibly obvious that the silver Doomfist was a high-platinum/low-diamond player at minimum. He would dive into a 5 (or 6) player congregation on our side, take out 2 or 3 of us, and then leave with barely a scratch on him (or he might burn Meteor Strike to take out a few more of us).
This happened on two consecutive games for me and I think it actually ranks for me as the legitimately worst Overwatch experience I've ever had. I was so frustrated by it that I misused the report system because I just had to say something in the hopes that someone, somewhere might be listening.
Obviously it wouldn't do anything at all since 1) they probably wouldn't ever consider a report not actually used for its intended purpose, and 2) Blizzard's approach to smurfs has and always will be " shrug, oh well they'll reach their intended rank eventually, the system will sort it out no problems" - but it's more about how flabbergasted I was at how bad the ranked Competitive Overwatch experience could become.
I was playing super late night QP (!) the other night and somehow got sent to some other region where it was all high-performing wunderkinds. It was like playing against space wizards. I was on Winston and going my best but my ana got so frustrated with me she sent me a group request (presumably to yell at me) and then just sat in spawn when I didn't respond (I am not stupid ragey dude?).
I feel like I've actually seen this one proposed in this thread, so whomever I'm ripping off (and implicitly degrading by association), I'm sorry.
Role queue has been brought up repeatedly as a possible remedy to GOATS and the general malaise that surrounds trying to get a properly-functioning team composition going. It would also permit people to stray out of their most-used classes if they want by allowing matchmaking to operate on each class individually. So if you have been playing Support for two years straight and can't play Damage for shit thousand-yard stare you get matched with other people at your level if you queue for Damage. The assumption is that the role limits would be 2-2-2, though I've also proposed 1-3-2 with significant revisions to how Tanks operate. But, how about this? 1-1-1-3.
Wait, that's four classes.
The fourth class is "Flex", which is what we have now-- pick any character you like. So the role queue would have people who queue for Tank only, people who queue for Damage only, people who queue for Support only, and people who queue for Flex, all four of which have independent MMRs. This may, to some extent, help alleviate the "but what if you get two main tank mains or two off-healer one-tricks?" problem with a 2-2-2 queue; Reinhardt mains queue for Tank while Zarya mains queue for Flex.
Of course, the main problem with this proposed system is that Flex would probably wind up becoming the "Fast Damage" queue in practice. The dedicated Damage spot will have a 15 minute wait while Flex will be... less than that. So Widowmaker one-tricks will queue Flex, insta-lock their favorite Sniper, and then demand that the other Flexes (also Widowmaker one-tricks) fill Tank and Support. In other words, exactly what we have today. But presumably those people would contribute to enough losses to crater their Flex MMR, leading them back to the Damage queue.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

Sounds more like shit wizards than space wizards if you ask me.
So, me and a friend wanted to run a little test with Storm Rising: could we come up with an all unique hero comp that could fail the mission on Hard difficulty (provided we all play like we know what we're doing). These were the comps we came up with:
No Heals (self-sustain is okay): Roadhog, D.Va (me), Mei (friend), Moira (who was under the restriction to never touch her LMB)
All-Tank: D.Va (me), Zarya (friend), Winston, Roadhog
All-Damage: Pharah (me), Hanzo (friend), Symmetra, Junkrat
All-Heals: Brigitte (me), Zenyatta (friend), Baptiste, Moira
The end result to all this silly-buggery: this event's Hard difficulty should be renamed Normal and Normal should be renamed Easy. At no time during any of the comps did we feel at risk of possibly failing the mission. Then again, we may have been using the ultimate OP strat for these kinds of events that may have compromised the test: communication and teamwork.

I did All Heroes on hard and expert this week on the first Uprising event and that is miles harder than Storm rising, even if you cheese with Orisa/Torb/Baptiste +1, those Bastions and the floaty mine can sneak up on you.
Also WTF Houston watching the match from yesterday, it's like they literally got worried about playing a different comp that was working but would have made them seem less legit as a team, and then went and choked on GOATS. Apparently they did it the week before too, just go full on 4 DPS cheese fuck you with Junkrat/Bastion +2.
rck holds on to EMP for 5 years and then misses BOTH supports when he uses it
Yeah he whiffed the shit out of that. It was brilliant to save it and bait Trance the first time, save it again to have it for last, then he totally screwed up. Not only did he not hit the supports, I think he missed Gesture too since he put all of Boston on the ground with the Shatter right afterwards.

ive found comp in the notoriously toxic eu solo q remarkably tranquil in comparison to my memory of it
H3KnucklesBut we decide which is rightand which is an illusion.Registered Userregular
I suspect time of day and/or day of the week has as much to do with the amount of toxicity a person encounters as rank does. But yes, my understanding was that comp is generally a lot more likely to bring out the worst than quickplay or arcade.
The only truly bad experience i have really had was someone from my own team messaging me after a loss and a starring role in getting murderized by a genji in the potg and being told i was trash. But they were also clearly a child, so whatever.

i even had a symm-torb duo on my team and our team built around it and got an easy win and that would definitely usually have been a tilter

I should have the absolute right to filter out playing with a below lvl 50 (more like 100), level 1 endorsement Widow main. FFS can I at least have a Widow smurf on my damn team for once.
This is coming from a moment of tilt but I am absolutely serious about being able to have the choice to not play with anyone below level 100.
They added an awesome Mercy spray that made me play as three characters who were not Mercy and I would like to register a protest.
Or at least an apology to the other people who had to suffer through me going what do these buttons do for three matches.
Also I wound up doing the King’s Row PVE event with two other people because one dude dropped out immediately after the first check point, and that was actually a bit of a nail biter.

I think a thing I see a lot of WB's messing up on is the initial compulsion to lead in with the hamm slam. It gets predictable, especially if any of your counters are out so you have to start playing a bit cheeky. Sometimes I'll just bowl through the mob on ground level and keep going. You've fulfilled your primary function of making space by pushing them back. So go around and double back, come at them from the side or from above and behind if you can. If you have a widow on your team try to coordinate some skeet shooting by popping up targets above Rein's shield. That sort of thing
Playing the Storm Rising event some more, I think I'd have to amend my dream team:
Orisa, Baptiste, Hanzo, Bastion Ashe. Bob just vomits out damage, and is equally useful for killing heavies as he is for clearing all the soldiers out. Ashe has vertical mobility, ability to snipe, and if you know the spawns can easily farm ult charge off of dynamite.

I love seeing Hammonds still doing strafe stepping after years of doing it on characters that it works on, seeing the little ball wiggle back and forth and I don't have to adjust my aim when shooting them makes me chuckle.
It's still necessary so that you can't land crits on the hamster
I'm assuming they mean while in ball form. I imagine for most people it's just such a fundamental habit they still do it even when they know it doesn't really help.

i actually like the new map a whole lot, it just didn't have any really interesting encounters
i was hoping for like at least one new enemy type, or a cooler setpiece at the end, or something
I like the Junkrat changes. They make bank shots easier that said I have noticed it's harder to lay down blanket spam at long ranges.
Reaper change is meh and l still believe he needs a Symmetra level rework at this point.
Also got on after not playing for a month. Realized why I refuse to play ranked unless some kind of role queue is implemented.
