So far negatives seem to be that it’s a grind to unlock stuff in the krypt and towers can have shitty unfun modifiers. WB strikes again with their loot box shit. However both of these are problems that can be rebalanced with feedback and outrage, and ill be grinding a shit load anyway so it’s not a bother to me personally
Pluses in reviews are apparently fantastic NetCode and great story

You earn coins and spend them on chests in the krypt, however apparently what’s in the chests is random, so technically they’re not loot boxes but basically they are semi lootboxey. And since you can buy koins with real world cash, it’s generating negative responses.
Kind of an annoying dodge on their behalf, But they’re technically not lootboxes since you can’t get doubles, which is a pretty important distinction for me personalky. So once you have something you won’t get it again, which is slightly better than like the injustice model
I’m not 100% on it but that’s what it sounds like from the reviews. It doesn’t sound that bad, but expect a lot of outage about grinding and microtransactions for a while

That’s bizarre, but at least I don’t have to worry about another hell sombrero for Scorpion (or whatever)
Like it’s not going to be injustice levels of bad, where after playing it solidly for two years I only had like 60% of the costumes. As long as I’m eventually able to narrow it down and get every piece I’m cool with it. But frankly once you introduce paid time skips people are going to be rightfully or wrongly upset
Personally it just bugs me cos it robs you of the feeling of items being actually there, like in curated places that make sense. It’s a missed opportunity to make the world feel more permanent.
I thought random contents was what makes them lootboxes? I avoid them like the plague, so maybe I got that wrong.

I’m not sure if loot boxes have a hard and fast definition, but I could see a lot of people considering ‘unknown downloadable content purchases’ to be loot boxes.

Eh, I think any system where randomized grinding(gambling) is a thing and that randomized grinding(gambling) can be alleviated by paying real world currency is more of less the same concept.
It's a crappy way to unlock things in lieu of a standard progression system. I'd like to level and unlock gear for the characters i play as.

There's no kostume kool enough for me to trade real world kash in exchange for digital koins that kan only be used on random chances at obtaining said kostume. Y'all need some impulse kontrol.

No, that c isn't a hard c, so it's perfektly akceptable to use it like that in reference to a Mortal Kombat statement.
I can't tell if the Krypt is random. On GB's Quick Look, there are coordinates on the screen and it's random bullshit in the chests but X had bullshit in chests, too, but it was specific bullshit. I wonder if it's like X where it just feels random until you see that everyone gets the same stuff at (237, 100) each time.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the best stuff (stages, costumes, etc) are in specific places, and the lesser finds (concept art, intro videos, miscellaneous gear) are scattered about.

Honeybee Commander and his brother are labbing Kollector on Honeybee's stream right now, and SonicFox and Silverrye are playing some sets on Sonic's stream. Most other streams are playing the story, so be wary of those if you're avoiding spoilers.

Speaking as someone who has said impulse control.
I also understand many people don't and these systems have been developed in part by professional psychologists(really) to exploit that.
Like I've come to expect that for better or worse lootboxes are a thing. But I don't see the practice as any different than how casinos exploit gambling addiction. Hell in some ways I think it more heinous cause unlike casinos they can target children(and a few studies have came out showing increased gambling addiction in children...I wonder why) and at least in a casino you have a (small) chance of return investment.

I... guess that's officially sanctioned? Feels kind of bizarre if so. I guess NRS just flat out don't give a damn about people watching the story without buying the game.
I suppose it’s essentially a giant free ad for the game that IGN is hosting for NRS. People who want to see it, can. NRS would get no advantage asking them to take it down-at best, it would spur a horde of spiteful youtubers to take it upon themselves to host the thing just because they can.

Seems like NRS could host it themselves and collect the ad revenue. Kinda messed up IGN is basically stealing from them at this point.

Thing is, I wouldn't be surprised they would bother. From what I've been hearing from Maximillian Dood who makes a bunch of gaming content, he's been describing his struggles trying to upload MK related content on his channel. Youtube's algorithm apparently is super sensitive to detecting blood splatter, even fake blood splatter, and is pretty much either insta-demonitizing or worse, age restricting his videos which limit the audience reach. Granted I'd imagine NRS probably has more sway than a popular youtuber, but that might explain why they just don't want to deal with the hassle of it.

I was wondering if there would be any meaningful financial advantage for NRS to host it. Compared to game sales and residual DLC loops, and that MKX solid like 11 million units, I can’t see it as being part of their agenda.
I suppose I could envision a scenario where they could sell the story as a self-contained movie, maybe with a digital code included for an equivalent value in koins for in-game purchases.
The biggest difference btween the Kypt and normal loot boxes appears to be there's a finite number things to buy in the Krypt (like i previous MK games.) However, before you could look up a guide and know where all the good stuff is so you didn't have to worry about getting 90 pieces of concept art before you found that alt-costume you wanted. Now they're randomized.

It would be nice if it was at least ‘selectively’ randomized. Like, if I play Sub-Zero, when I go to the Krypt give me random Sub-Zero stuff. After playing Baraka, switch it to Baraka stuff. Etc.

It's Johnny Cage, not Johnny Kage. You have to pick and choose your K's, otherwise they loose their oomph.

Honestly, at this point, I would have probably been down for spending $20 for a blu-ray version of the story rather than buying the game.
