Don't build a Tau army, that will get it's throat cut in the next FAQ and you'll be out a bunch of money and painting time.

One thing I will say is the Castellans are still excellent models. And they were under priced at launch. I think maybe this was too much of an increase, I was expecting 50 points on the knight and 1 point to guardsmen. Would of been about the same.

Even so it basically cost you an assassins worth to bring.

I think it is good to nerf it. And it will be healthier for the game as a whole that the overall meta isn't revolving around a single model. And really the meta was moving away because people were bringing list specifically to counter that or negate it anyway. It is still a gate keeper model.

It is just a 700 point sink. It is a center piece. You bring it and you better get your use out of it. But there is so much in this FAQ it will take a while for the dust to settle.

Also, never chase the meta dragon unless you can borrow it all, get it for free, or are a millionaire. It isn't the old GW. Metas aren't years long. Or even months 6 months long anymore.

And in the long run that is healthier for the game. Produces more balance. And hopefully makes it so you play what you want, not what is the new hotness.

Actually the FAQ is making me reconsider my NoVA list. I was bringing DW/Ad mech but I am thinking maybe I should be bringing my chaos now. Going to have to think hard over the next month.

This is why you build an army based on what you think looks cool or has lore you like. Rules change constantly, but your models don't.

Defender always succeeds on a 6 in a mental onslaught.

I don't think the Castellan is dead, just not as good as it was before. I was surprised to see that Ion Bulwark wasn't made Questoris only, as you can still have it with a permanent 4++ save for 1CP (or less).

Even with these changes I think I'm still going to be running three allied psykers in my Dark Eldar lists (Farseer, Warlock, Yvraine)

I'm actually kind of excited that they'll all be forced to go full murderhobo

Now I am curious with Ynnari farseers and warlocks would I be able to use a craftworld warlock and a farseer ynnari in the same army?or are they all ynnari?

  • honoverehonovere Registered User regular
Only detachments with at least one of the three ynnari characters are actually ynnari as far as I can tell. All the psykers in any other detachments would use their regular powers. With the faq I'm not sure if reborn asuryani can benefit from the asuryani powers?

Yeah, I think the current wording means Ynnari Craftworlders can't take advantage of any of the standard Craftworld psychic powers. No Doom or Jinx for them even if you've got a distinct Craftworld detachment.

It does actually give the Ynnari rework a little bit of a boost, as it's now the only way that all the Eldar factions can synergise with each other.

Leman Russes explicitly don’t get to do that because grinding advance specifies they get their double shots in the following shooting phase, it’s not always on.

I made a new friend and we’re learning how to play Kill Team together. Buuuut were also both Primaris-only players. I’ve got some Drukhari primed, and I might have a little time to get some paint on them before the weekend. Anyone have a basic Drukhari Kill Team list?

Bring a sniper specialist with a dark lance with a com specialist next to them. Put them in the back. Melt everything.

d6 damage on a -4 ap weapon in kill team is just vicious.

I bring a splinter cannon demolitions specialist and had some good luck, but that was for a tournament. Against a Primaris only player, the dark lance will ruin his day.

I want to add wolves to the base of my knight but the only wolves I have are all static pose which kind of bothers me. They have the old rectangle fantasy bases. I use them as fenrisian wolves.

I wish a box of them wasn't $25. The plan was to put down the basing material and have it harden around the feet of the wolves. Maybe I can just glue them or pin them into the base once I can afford to drop $25 for wolves with different poses.

What kind of styrofoam is safe to use with acrylic primer/paints? Gonna be a mix of vallejo and GW.

It's the solvent in spray paints, or super glue, that has a problem with styrofoam.

Yeah, Styrofoam™ is generically expanded polystyrene, aka the same stuff your minis are made of, just inflated. Anything you wouldn’t risk dunking your model in for more than a minute needs to stay well clear of styrene foam.

I realize I reacted a bit harshly to the Castellan change. I was talking to a couple of competitive players I respect last night and they both think it's absolutely still playable just not an auto-take. My frustration is that I still feel GW nerfed it in the most hamfisted way possible, punishing all the players who have one, instead of just the people using soup and brigade stacking to soak it with CP. I'm completely behind the Rotate Ion Shields change I just wish GW had reigned in a few more of the root causes of the Castellan being OP in certain lists, instead of just throwing points at it.

In the end I had remove my Aggressors from my list to keep it, but I did get an extra Hellblaster in my squad to cover the last 33 points, leaving my list at exactly 2000pts.

So what should I use? I feel like my knight base will be a little boring so I was thinking of adding to it with some styrofoam.

You can use styrofoam, you just have to seal it with something before you spray it, like art gesso.

Tamiya Surface Primer Spray is styrofoam safe, but if you don't get a complete coating of primer before you start trying to rattlecan on a base coat, you're going to have trouble.

One thing the Ynnari changes did for me was give me enough of an excuse to buy a Wraithseer.

Actually the first list I've put together to try is almost exactly the same as a few of my last iterations (except I swapped out wraithguard for wraithblades).

Wraiths kind of feel like the only coherent set of units that work well with the new Ynnari. I'm still mulling over the new rules for them and the more I think about it the more I dislike the Index.

Still going to be sticking Yvraine in Dark Eldar detachments, but aside from that? Ehhhhhh.

  • LanlaornLanlaorn Registered User regular
I love the look and idea of an Ynnari wraith construct melee army, and had the same thoughts, but it's not going to be very strong.

Reducing Ynnari to a random niche thing like the Inquisition rather than a super catalyst action economy force multiplier for any flavor of existing OP Eldar bullshit is definitely the right move.

  • novaspikenovaspike Registered User regular
Agreed that wraiths are about the only ones that make sense. With the new Word of the Phoenix, I think wraiths are the best candidate to bring back points-wise (other than maybe vypers, but that'd assuming vypers remain a squad like I think they do).

I like being able to mix wyches and warriors too, but I know it's not a great trade off.

  • honoverehonovere Registered User regular
An army of undead that worship the god of the actual dead is certainly a very 40k image.

  • TheColonelTheColonel ChicagolandRegistered User regular
The concept of the Ynnari is one of the coolest things GW has done for xenos in a very long time. While they definitely needed to be toned back, this new iteration is just so completely gutted. The character tax on Ynnari detachments is pretty rough especially given just how overpriced the Yncarne still is.

  • Mr_RoseMr_Rose 83 Blue Ridge Protects the Holy Registered User regular
Yeah, they seriously need to be their own book, AoS faction tome style, that just says these guys are Ynnari, they do this and have this and bam! None of this mess where half your special rules are telling you which other special rules don’t apply to you any more.

I'm still kind of convinced that this is a stop-gap before an overall rework for Eldar as a race. Ynnari will wind up being like Primaris for Loyalist marines, and we'll see "Reborn" versions of Aspect Warriors and special characters.

The new Chaos models are gorgeous. Fit in with your old army, though they look way better. And aren't some new overhaul of the entire army.
