    Okay, this is ridiculous.

I'm on the Delta Quadrant mission "Revelations" and I just met up with one of the most a-fucking-nnoying things I've ever had to fight- a Voth Bastion Cruiser. I go in, pop off a full complement of torps, fire all phasers- and then the damned thing just goes all trollface on me and becomes immune to damage and suddenly my shields are down and its torps and beams are tearing me a new one.

Just how the fuck am I supposed to deal with this damned thing?

It's only super-shielded on one side. Circle around to the other, or wait for it to switch facings.

Don't waste an alpha strike on a Voth ship - wait for them to pop their shield and then use it during the cooldown on the vulnerable side. Their cruisers become invincible on a 90 degree arc matching a shield facing, battleships and dreadnoughts get a 180 degree version that blocks half of each adjacent facing, which is more annoying since its the only mechanic in the game to split a facing like that. The thing to remember is that they'll always use the shield if you hit them hard, so you waste most of your opening volley. They're slower to use it if you come in defensively, but once they do they can't use it again for a minute and can't move it to a new angle.

Went back to tackle Mr. Voth again. He popped his super shield- flew past him and shoved some torps up his exhaust.

Met the Vaad-whatevers, and if one of their cruisers can do that to me than oh shit just how outclassed am I in a plain Galaxy-class?

Defeated the episode, though. Going to need to drop some EC on better weapons and consoles and the like. I'm still using the Hargh'peng launcher I got way back in the beginning (does good damage and the DOT is nice).

Does Aux still improve your crowd control abilities?

I remember back in the day having a rolling set of rank I / II / III Sensor Scrambles with like a 40 second duration with 125/100 aux power. Numbers don't seem to change on the bar with aux power anymore, tho.

That was quite the finale, eh? There's actually one more Iconian mission and it's one of the best the game has had in a long time.

The campaign goes a bit meandering after the big Iconian showdown, but it is working towards something (the last few spider related thread titles reference that). Some great characters and a wild ride of switcheroos as every time you think you've won.

The Discovery Enterprise and K7 were released yesterday, and the power creep is real. 5/3 weapons, 9 base turn, 2 hangars, and a 12th console slot (universal!) just for fun. The beam weapons unlocked with the ships will probably end up being best-in-slot, and the new hangar pets are pretty nuts, too.

The official forums are, as expected and perhaps understandably, annoyed that Cryptic's gone fully p2w-lootbox on this one.

edit: the blue beams and bolts are entirely from me/my pets

Some slim hope for the slow as balls drip feed of Discovery stuff ending: the Odyssey-class has been canonized. In the first issue of the Picard Countdown comic, set in 2385, during the attempt to stop the Hobus supernova, the Enterprise-E is still around, and Picard commands the USS Verity, which looks awful awful familiar:

Guess they're retconning the prelude mini-series to the first Kelvin-verse film then since I think Picard was said to be an ambassador at that point.

I don't usually talk about random grind events anymore but this one is interesting.

They've "remastered" the Borg STFs (why yes they DID do this three times already!) But all that actually means this time is a scoring dialog telling you how many marks you got, and an angry Klingon yelling at you between Borg hails.

However, the event reward is three weapons (sniper rifle, blast assault, and compression pistol) specifically made for fighting Borg those damage type endeavors (entirely inferior to the TR116 against Borg). Every time you hit he melee button the weapon changes damage type, hitting all the main types with vanilla procs.

I like it because it looks like exactly the kind of bullshit mishmash design you'd get with diplomats and politicians pushing for aesthetic unity over performance.

Reminds me of the Valen. Maybe it'll come in a bundle with an escort that features brawling-based weapons targeting.

This ones an event reward, so just the one for now. But the news tease a couple days before the post suggested there was a line of hybrid ships, so maybe more coming to the store after the event.

They haven't done a giveaway in forever, I assumed they were basically not doing them anymore, but they're doing one for the anniversary: 2399 Picard uniforms, which actually fit pretty well with the Jupiter uniform line and include a variation on the All Good Things com badge.

Edit: Finished off the free ship event today and grabbed the Yamato dreadnought for an alt. On one hand, lots of pewpewpew when I hit rapid fire, and it's an unkillable behemoth (whereas my main's Alita abruptly explodes for no reason if I mistime my button mashing). I have the old Galaxy retrofit and with saucer separation it's got the same turn rate as a heavy escort. Phaser lance is kind of lackluster in either mode, but so are most experimental weapons and at least this is basically a cantrip with no equipment footprint. Kind of want to main this ship...

On the downside... I still really like my main's old-school build with the DBB, 2xDC, and torpedo, and the Yamato can't even pretend to have the boff layout to run any kind of mixed weapons - even a torpedo would basically neuter it. The build might not be particularly awesome (I actually think the Yamato would lay down more damage if it had the amount of upgrading behind it that my main does), but it's a damn sight to behold and really feels like something you'd see in the show. Also, flying into a swarm of Borg coming out of the gate in Infected and laying down a beam overload on the sphere and scatter volley, quantum torpedo spread, the consoles from all three Akira variants, tetryon cascade, and the Voth spatial charges in a glorious orgy of irresponsible AOE looks motherfucking awesome. It will either clear an entire map in one sweep, or get everything irreversibly aggroed on me so I have to run around like a chicken until all those cooldowns are up for another try.

So, Borg lockbox with the first playable Borg ship, the weird one-off ship from TNG that briefly appears in Delta Rising. If they maintain the scale seen there, this thing is going to be probably *the* biggest playable ship yet, wider than the Universe-class and much bulkier.

Big 10-ship bundle coming out for the anniversary, listed as "Legendary Ships." Looks like new variants on the classics. Individual ships look like they might be great values.

Each one comes as a complete set - includes the console mods of any previous versions of the ship at any tier, the traits of any existing T6 version, and all the compatible visuals, without having to buy four different Defiants to get all its abilities.

On top of that you get a new version of the ship tuned to then current meta, and a bonus or two:

First up is a new Galaxy Command Cruiser:
    ivt7a9deoeid.png
Comes with everything that ever came with a Galaxy (not a Galaxy-X though), plus the Ross-class.

Second is the Defiant Pilot Warship
    2erjbxz9bdnb.png
Again, all the stuff - the console set, quad cannons, all the numerous skins the Defiant has accumulated. No new class, but nose art options if you're using the Defiant-class nose.

Eight more of them to come. The silhouettes in the teaser image kind of look like all 8 are either Sovereign or Odyssey variants, hopefully those are placeholders because that would seriously slim down the package.

Oh my god a 5/3 Defiant. I want it. I want it so much. The 4/3 layout is the only gripe I have with my engineer's Defiant.

19.5k zen for the whole bundle is way out of my price range, though, and that's just the sale price! Yeah it has 10 ships but I don't want all 10 ships.

Almost any ship bundle that's not three variants of the same ship is a waste unless you really love the Admiralty system and have a history of poor financial decisions (and those three packs are questionable enough). Individually, these could be awesome deals, though, especially with so many iconic ship powers like MVAM, cloak, saucer separation, etc being tied to tier 5 versions (but usable on t6) and the tier 6 versions getting weird technomagic deflector flux quantums instead. I imagine they'll cost more than standard T6 ships, but certainly cheaper than what you currently need to burn on complete packages now.

New mission and the anniversary event today, still patching right now but some interesting mix of eras in the mission: Featuring Seven of Nine (in her updated Picard look) and a Michael Burnham from Discovery and traveling to Excalbia, the planet where Captain Kirk taught a holographic Abraham Lincoln about good, evil, and having sex with alien women.

Edit: Ok, mission was a goddamn trip:
So, the Excalbians are near-Q level reality warpers. They're still corporeal, but can create or erase physical objects and beings at will.

In TOS, they had Kirk and Spock face several combat challenges so they could learn about good and evil, and at the end retired to consider what they learned. Now, they've come back for more information. So you, Seven, and Burnham hop around in time, facing several key events from each person's history but with new twists. Examples include the final battle of the Temporal War but the Dominion is involved, the battle against Hakeev but the Iconians have already revealed themselves, and the Fall of Iconia except one of the modern Iconians comes back in time and shows them what they'll become.

At the end of each scenario you get a fake choice in how to act, and an Excalbian tells you you fucked up (it doesn't actually matter which you pick, if you change your options different bad things happen and you're held accountable for all of it). After all of them, the Excalbians decide that evil always wins because good is stupid and decide to be evil. Except then shit hits the fan.

Several key things happen as a "result" of your choices (whatever you pick they happen), but the final outcome is that Control's nanites (gray goo style AI from Discovery) merges with Borg nanites to create a new strain of Borg (they have some additional hold and disable powers), which gets loose from the simulation and starts assimilating the Excablians (remember where I mentioned they were near-Q level beings?).

This leads to the craziest series of escalating battles the game's ever seen, including but not limited to: An assimilated Iconian, a new Borg Queen with matter conjuration powers, and a multi-dreadnought battle including assimilated Krenim and Iconian dreadnoughts. In the last one, the Excalbians finally get off their asses and conjure up Discovery, Voyager, the Defiant, and several Enterprise's (NX-01, 1701, B C D and F) to help out, which in my run all promptly got stuck on the geometry of the Iconian dreadnought and got disabled when it blew up.

New queue event is an aerial assault on Elachi walkers, but this time in full starships instead of shuttles. You can just mow through the walkers and turrets, but there's swarms of them to deal with and also a few much larger units we didn't see in the shuttle mission.

I have to admit, this old Trekkie was grinning like a fool when
everyone showed up for the big fleet battle. Way to celebrate the 50th of the franchise (plus one) as well as the 10th of the game.

Also, at the very end, I imagined this exchange between my captain and "Burnham":
"Believe it or not, Commander, your situation isn't without precedent. You're not the first, ah, person to walk off a holodeck."
    "What's a holodeck?"

They did a surprisingly good job with
the voice lines from the different captains (even if the subtitles don't line up at all). They sounded very clean especially when you compare it to other cases they used show audio, like the TOS crew in the AOY missions which felt awkward and bizarre.

Pretty much every time her and Seven presented competing options, I felt like Seven was more persuasive and rational. Why do I have to help with Obisek? There's literally five other dudes here, including my chief medical officer and a Reman medic, and out of all of us I have the LEAST medical knowledge.

Seven's plan does lead to his death, but still involves leaving help for him, attempting to achieve both goals even if ultimately both fail. Michael's involves letting the bad guy run away while multiple trained medics watch a sniper and an engineer attempt emergency field surgery. Oh, and Obisek dies anyway, so pfffft.

I didn't like Stamets either, but with the fungus universe, he was the expert and everyone else were out of their depth, so I would tend to defer to him. But Burnham? Just STFU already, you literally just learned that the Borg exist and you're second guessing every action of Seven, the quadrant's leading expert on them, and me, the guy with the special anti-Borg rifle. "You used to be one, right? You're not going to be conflicted about killing them, right?" "Bitch did you listen to any part of this conversation?"

Ok, some of these legendary ships are pretty cool. Like before, these include all previous variants (including ones that were lockbox exclusives before), consoles, traits, etc.

Odyssey Command Dreadnought (hangar, all of the previous pets and separation powers - this thing is straight up target spam)
    ofsdig6uzkqk.png
New Verity-class, more closely based on Adam Ilhe's original version, with a wider gap in the neck.

    Kelvin Intel Battlecruiser (5/3 weapons)
    pzrcz3sdeoek.png
Lower variant is the Enterprise-A briefly seen at the end of Beyond.

    Sovereign Miracle Worker Assault Cruiser
    o84pktm4aiih.png
Subtle new visual on this one - like the Kelvin Enterprise-A, the Sovereign refit is only seen in a not even complete state at the end of Nemesis and featured a few extra phaser strips and some new greebling on the nacelles and brought back the mysterious disappearing shuttle bay from First Contact.

NX Temperal Ops Escort (5/2 weapons plus experimental)
    t50ukaaezop8.png
Includes the NX and NX refit versions, as well as a new circa-2280 variant with Excelsior style nacelles. Unlike the NX the lower hull doesn't appear to be optional on this one.

6 down, 4 to go. Presumably an Intrepid and a Crossfield, and then two more, possibly Galaxy-X, Ambassador, or Excelsior are my thoughts. According to CBS and Eaglemoss, Picard's CGI ships were approved very late in production and can't be made available to merchandisers yet, so probably nothing from that.

Still no word on individual pricing (or availability for that matter - there will be many tears if these are limited to a mega pack that costs half a paycheck).

I would 100% use some of my zen hoard on an individual Odyssey or Sovereign, but I do actually have enough for the non-deluxe collection if I liquidate the whole pile so it's mighty tempting. I'd probably only fly one or two though which is a big strike against.

The possibility of an Alliance three pack is both a bit more likely and also probably more useful?

Warship Voyager Miracle worker science vessel. Like all the Legendary ships it comes with all existing visuals and perks, and it can equip dual cannons because... I mean, fucking look at the bitch.

    7yyzojpgh5wj.png
Crossfield Temporal Operative Science Vessel, with the Glenn-class. Looks like an early Cryptic design, mostly just a greebled up version of the stock version. Looks like it has a forcefield thing going on in the saucer gap, like that old bubble head science vessel you don't see anyone with anymore.

These are the two I expected, should leave a TOS Connie and one mystery ship to round out the bundle. Galaxy-X? Ambassador? Excelsior? Vesta? Who knows.
