I didn't want to be the person who called somebody on it. I was literally thinking, "Is he saying they look alike just because they are both Asian?"
I thought I recognised Maurissa, but I was honestly a little scared looking it up. Please don't be racist, facial-recognition-brain.
I wouldn't throw out the word racist so quickly. It's just a skill your brain needs to practice. Making mistakes should be a call to recognize your biases. That word is way too loaded for this situation. You and the poster making the initial mistake aren't bad racists, you could just do with some more experiences.

Yeah this is an interesting and very real phenomenon. Basically our brains are primed to see similarities in stuff that is unfamiliar, and subtle differences in areas we are familiar. This is before we get into some people just being bad at facial recognition. Don't take it as you are a bad person when that shit happens, but do recognize it's because of you. Basically making the mistake doesn't make you a racist, but not owning up to it being about you would.
I stopped watching Dollhouse pretty early on. I think it was originally me just dvring it and then just not bothering to get back to it. I think Joss starts strong with a series then fucks it up(I hate Spike in late Buffy and the last season of Angel). I was almost relieved that Firefly got cancelled before he could screw it up. Then I saw Serenity, and realized I was right to doubt him after seeing what he did with River.

...gave her agency and a character arc other than being a weird naked girl in a box?
I binged all 4 episodes in one night and wasn't sure how I was feeling about the season. I'm feeling the 2 week break so I must be enjoying it more than I realized. Some things bother me. Tired of Fitz Simmons drama. Just want them happy, and thought yoyo and the bat was kind of stupid.
I love the crazy they've jumped deep into the last 2 seasons though.

You know that a strong character arc isn't defined by how many reavers you can take in a fight at the end of it, right? I get that we want characters to do cool things, but it is possible for River to be cool without turning into a Slayer.

River took down an authoritarian regime. The entire plot hinged on her desire to fix things with the strength and knowledge that she had found. She's the one who demanded that they go to Miranda. Killing Reavers and saving the day at the last minute was just icing. I'm a little disappointed, but not surprised, that killing Reavers with an axe is what people remember about her in that movie. The advertisements sure liked that shot.
I don't know if I'd go so far as to say "took down"
"dealt a blow to", maybe. Exposing that particular sin will cause trouble for the people in charge, and might encourage rebellious feelings... but I don't think it's meant to be the nail in the coffin.

One scandal isn't going to take down an authoritarian regime.
For the season so far, I feel that focusing on one group(the space crew or the earth crew) makes the episode stronger. I also don't hold the Simmons eating the mystery puffs against her. The alien dude was literally snacking on them at work(from her perspective).
Just watched the casino episode. Boy you can kinda tell the show had a massive budget cut. Anyone on this famed throughout the quadrant planet of vice and crime apparently goes to one of two places, either the casino or the brothel. And they go to the casino and it's about the same size as the casino on Babylon 5, with lower ceilings, and maybe 20 patrons max. Is the planet 1500 yards across?
I know, I know, suspension of disbelief, but still. Some decent laughs, though.

'Friends' don't gas friends, Enoch, even if the survival of your whole species is on the line. :bigfrown:
"We shared a charging pod!" "I can't believe I let you access my data port!" Enoch has an old flame.
Finally we have a name for the bat-type-creatures of crystalline doom, 'The Shrike'. And it's not just Earth at stake, but the whole Galaxy is under attack from them.
Remember the 90s Street Fighter movie with Van Damme? Ming-Na Wen played Chun Li. There's a recent magazine article out about the making of it. Wen had this anecdote to share.
Ming-Na Wen, who played Chun-Li, and underwent intense weight training in the lead up to the film, remembers it a little differently. “They were all big wussies,” she says, laughing. “I won’t name names, but I got into one of those brother-sister banter relationships with one of the other actors. I remember one day, I punched him so hard he cried. We were just goofing around!”
I have a theory about Sarge based on this latest episode and things that occurred in it, spoilery guess work ahead
I think this is Coulson from the time line that saved him, using something kinda like what happens to Captain Jack Harkenss, we find out these shriek are what actually broke the world and he has been trying to save parallel worlds for hundreds of years to a point that he doesn’t remember his past.
He just happen to finally jump to a world like his, where he didn’t stay dead after Avengers and he DID die after Season 5.

Even if the superior had gone down the same route, I'm disappointed his answer wasn't "Fitz is a...good man. Why not try asking him?"
Next episode is going to be rough
Yeah
Just like, give the whole crew a lift back to Earth and a lab and ask them nicely and they'll probably help. Especially when they discover the thing that busted your planet is about to bust theirs.

Nah. These guys are under a huge time crunch(humans do die young). The first thing Fitz should do when he discovers time travel in the distant future is travel back in time to current Fitz and give him the data. That way Fitz and Jemma can get back to earth asap. I mean, we obviously already give zero figs about timeline stability since we are trying to save a second planet that had been destroyed in the past. Might as well just give it to himself in the past, they ask for the time travel and he says it is in his back pocket and he would like to go home.

ok, if this season turns into Bill and Ted I'd be fine with that.

Keanu has been turning up in unexpected places lately...

Imagine that being Keanu's one MCU appearance and character. Maybe the movies would care about AoS after that.

Not really racist. I'm bad at facial recognition myself. I might have seen Maurissa before, but I don't remember her.

I only remember Dichen Lachman as Sierra. :heartbeat:

Anyway, I caught up with the first two episodes of the series and it’s perfectly fine, I guess. I’m not enthralled.

Coulson got to have a 'good' death.
He just happen to finally jump to a world like his, where he didn’t stay dead after Avengers and he DID die after Season 5.
I never thought that, 25 years later, I would still be crushing on Ming-Na Wen.
Latest episode was fun!
