It doesn't seem that long ago that the Anime thread was in the Prohibition era. The movement started in 2009 with the best intentions of keeping anime discussion away from the under-aged and irresponsible. With ecchi anime becoming the rule rather than the exception, the "Not Even Once" ethos spread like wildfire and soon debate raged across the forums. Created in 2012
the Tube act, a.k.a. the Glorious Edict finally outlawed anime and the mods were mobilized. Within days the existing general anime threads were closed down, and one-by-one the singular anime topics rounded up as well.
Though viewed as a great moral victory of its time, the prohibition wasn't without criticism: why was this sinful behavior called out when others like
gambling still allowed? This led to greater questions like "what is anime?" An artstyle? A transmission of Japanese culture? The friends we made along the way?
Research shows that Prohibition reduced overall anime consumption by half during the 2010s, and consumption remained below pre-Prohibition levels until the 2020s, suggesting that Prohibition did socialize a significant proportion of the population in temperate habits, at least temporarily. Rates of body pillow purchases "fell by 50% early in Prohibition and recovered promptly after Repeal in 2019." Criticism remains that Prohibition led to unintended consequences such as a century of Prohibition-influenced legislation and the growth of "WTF Japan!?" thought, though some scholars have argued that was properly attributed to increased internet exposure, rather than the criminalization of anime use. Regardless, as an experiment it lost supporters every year, and lost innumerable reactions that forumers needed when the Great Depression began in November 2016.
One type of forum artifact of the prohibition era are all the speakeasy anime threads that still exist. While general anime threads were disallowed, forumers found cleaver (in their minds’) ways to bypass the edict, usually with sympathetic mod help (or at least a blind eye). Threads like the D&D Movies thread allowed anime discussion, so long as the subject itself was feature-length. Anime adaptations like the 2017 Ghost in the Shell provided topical safe havens, even if only temporarily. As sympathy towards the repeal grew single-topic anime threads led by the mods themselves emerged, heralding the end of the prohibition era.

This will be here until I receive an apology or Weedlordvegeta get any consequences for being a bully
This would have been a great title. There were a ton of great ones in the previous thread too, I just started working on mine back in the beginning of June. I didn’t think we’d go through threads so quickly tbh.
I also had an idea for “The [Anime] thread is getting another season!” But didn’t have a good joke for the body of it.
Hopefully by the next time I make an OP I’ll be able to post from a cat cafe or something equally Cool Japan. Maybe the Gundam cafe.
Your work is appreciated. Let this thread thrive, prosper and hopefully not get weird.
...fuck.

I'm with the Anime FBI, I'm taking over this case. Beat it.
Also gotta give credit to the random AMVs popping up on my youtube feed for getting me interested in watching new shows. This one right here?

Singlehandedly got me interested in watching Little Witch Academia. That is an incredibly wholesome OVA.

The song and character design seem vaguely familiar. I guess I saw it as a kid, but I don't actually remember anything about it.
More people need to watch that show.
And yes, Konosuba is fuckin hilarious.
The entire konosuba gang are great but she's uniquely awful
I think it's better when they shoot energy out instead of blood
I'll give you my dakimakura when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!
You forgot about my nakama
Edit: Rereading this I’m not sure my tone came out right. What I meant is that I still make poor decisions with money, just to a different master.
Every one in KonoSuba tends to get exactly what they deserve.
Poor Yunyun.
Yunyun does not get what she deserves and it makes me very angry.
She literally saved Megumin's life and Megushit doesn't even thank her
I legit forgot about Yunyun.
“The text that was translated is for the loser’s sake.” No idea what ラグゲージ is: google searches pull up random images of tools? Anyway “I study ragugeji and keep friends and family at a distance.”
Is this a quote that I just butchered? I’m very curious now.
If this was to me, we're cool.
