I'm kinda glad Mineta exists, because all of the skeevy stuff that seems obligatory for shonen manga is just concentrated in this one character I can safely ignore.

Monoma's the best. His ability to talk shit when he has absolutely nothing to back it up is incredible.

Weirdly this fantasy cop show Cop Craft is pretty good so far.

I had negative expectations before I hit play, but so far it’s a fun mix of typical cop show and fish-out-of-water elf sword girl on earth. Another show I wasn’t expecting to pick up but I’m gonna have to see how it plays out. This season might be pretty good.

Fire Force has a character exactly like this and we'll meet her on Friday

Basically she has a 'lucky lecher aura' where all sorts of unfortunate horny things keep happening to her which frees up the other female characters to develop and have agency

She is so useless. Honestly, Iris is just kind of there as well, doing nothing except pray.

I'm so glad Maki exists to be competent.

I’m not a fan of Bakugo, he’s definitely a little shit and also definitely resembles the guys who bullied me in high school

On the other hand I appreciate that he’s the character he is, I think he’s a good counterbalance to Midoriya and Todoroki and I think that he’s interesting and has shown some good development. Having the bully/main character’s antagonist also be a hero and on the ‘good side’ is, well, realistic

I do get a little surprised/concerned by all the people I’ve met for whom he’s their favourite

I know it was mentioned earlier but man, uhmm..Food Wars is sure something.

Also how is that show so early in Toonami schedule and MHA is now at the very end (2:30 am my time). It's nuts.

Food Wars is new and they usually get earlier slots, and MHA ratings have been kinda garbage - it was pushed heavily by the fanbase, and then they didn't watch it because they'd already seen it.

e: Went and looked at the numbers myself. Ratings aren't actually garbage, but they're probably lower than expectations. Super ends up getting higher ratings than it, in both relative and absolute sense, despite being later in the night.

e2: There's also some speculation around Toonami and Funimation maybe having some drama behind the scenes.

That makes sense Adult Swim mamagement doesnt like Toonami very much

The only designated fanservice character I ever enjoyed was Kaere Kimura from Zetsubou Sensei

Cuz, well, it was Zetsubou Sensei, so her fanservice zoomed off well past any sort of eroticism into more of an ongoing surreal gag

Crystal update My neice was very confused by Sailor V and asked why she looked like Usagi.

Also she does not think Luna and Artemis are a couple. I didn't tell her about Dianna

Fireforce I thought would be about firefighters and the lives they lived.

I was not prepared for the obligatory anime nonsense.

Munkus, might you be interested in Promare, an anime film also ostensibly about firefighters?

What’s a good melodramatic melancholy non robot anime to watch? I feel especially lousy and I’d like to wallow in self-pity and -loathing.

I watched the first episode of Vinland Saga and it was pretty good. Thorkell doesn't really sound like how I imagined when reading the manga but damn if it ain't got good production values.

I don't know about melodramatic, but melancholy: March Comes in Like a Lion

    If you want trashy melodrama:
    Scum's Wish
    Citrus
    Domestic Girlfriend
    Netsuzou Trap

All definitely fit into the trashy, horny people making bad decisions category

I never actually watched more than the first episode of FLCL but I should go back to it at some point.

Evangelion is definitely the kind of mood I’m looking to recapture right now. Is that Madoka? RahXephon is another one. Or in another way, Eden of the East, if Takizawa wasn’t so damned cheery.

    edit: Except without robots, yes.
