    Eh, it's not dead.

But as it turns out, infinite Goku's as your Season Pass doesn't exactly instill the most hype.

Also, way back in the Season 2 announcement trailer released in January, they mentioned DBS Broly and SSGSS Gogeta as "Coming Soon". Between then and now, all we've gotten is GT Goku in May.

after being as excited as I could possibly be for an MK release I ended up 1. not buying it and 2. not hearing about it from other people online for long
so i guess i'm not terribly surprised

Shameful pursuits and utterly stupid opinions

it always feels like MK games sell really well and then drop off almost immediately in terms of esports viewership

I really don't like watching MK though, i find the game looks really bad with streaming compression and it's really hard to follow

it's the best mortal kombat game I can possibly imagine

its just... not enough. It's too screwy as a fighting game to feel like it's worth investing in.

kinda sucks for people who are making youtube content though, since MK fatalities and x-rays are getting auto-flagged as extreme gore content so they can't monetize views, and won't be suggested to non-subscribers

Yeah, that's doing a lot of damage to the community. People use screen filters etc to try and get around it, with mixed results.

Surprise! NetherRealm need to stop making gore porn! The fatalities are gross and stupid and not even in the original spirit of the franchise!

they kinda needed to do something in Season 2 to spice up the meta, but instead took all the things pros didn't like about S1, and made them worse and more mandatory

    whoops

if the cast were a shade better it would be my favorite casual FG

yeah the "Toei has banned the tournament from being streamed, we will sue you if you show it" thing didn't help either

a lot of tournament organizers didn't want to deal with that mess and just pulled promotion for it

I'm told they announced an official tournament recently

one week in advance of it happening

it feels like they're actively trying to ruin everyone's enthusiasm for it

I really think MK11 is the best MK, ever, and think with a few adjustments to some BS, could be amazing.

Scorpion is still bullshit to deal with online, though, and feels like he gets more onerous with every MK since 9.. Offline, I'm cool, but....

I don't follow MK, but what's the reason behind Scorpion now being public enemy? I vaguely recall Erron Black was the nuisance, but I don't know how that's gotten better/worse.
I know at the literally elementary school level I played at in the old days, Scorpion having a teleport and the combo starter spear since the old days meant he could always pull wins, but I never looked into how that affected a higher level of play.

I watched a vid of a Shang Tsung match where the fireball trio that comes out of the ground turns him into a UNIST character since he can convert hits into combo damage at nearly full screen, and it's especially bad if it connected as an anti-air. I don't know if that's awesome or awful.

I feel like the worst competitive matches of Soul Calibur are still more interesting to watch than Jack matches in T7, even though I don't know the mechanics/characters of SC. On the flip side, I haven't yet any SC matches that felt "truly amazing"... but that might also be due to my lack of knowledge.

DBFZ is going to be a future case study on how to not manage a product that has esports plans.

The real 50:50 mixup is whether or not Smash is going to be the last game shown at EVO this year. I hope it is, because it's nothing but positives for people who do care about the game and for people who don't care about the game.

Scorpion is not public enemy number one in tournament play, but the nature of online latency means that crossups like his teleport are significantly meaner in online ladder.

tfw Dante teleports are awesome in online and much less so in offline?

I watch and play a bunch of Smash Ultimate. Rounds are typically 4-5 minutes, so 8-15 min for a set. There are characters that like to try to run matches long but far and away I would say that players actively try to engage.

we joke about the gokus a lot but I can definitely attribute the main reason I fell off the game was lack of hype on post release content

I bought broly and waited a long ass time for jiren who I wanted pretty bad and otherwise the dlc did not appeal to me at all

At higher level play you can blow him up, but online it's difficult. The thing about Scorpion is that because he's easy to use and a scrub killer, he's absolutely everywhere. His teleport is also just too good for online play.

Nah he can only really combo into damage from close range. It's a decent anti-air but it's not crazy damage and needs meter to do anything really cruel. Thirty percent off a good read and two bars isn't crazy, Scorpion can get fifty.

If you hit them with ex ground sparks from anywhere, shang can dash up into far ground sparks. He gets a combo from sparks from almost everywhere on screen.

Regarding the number of participants, those seem good.

But I wonder if plenty of people realized they cannot touch the likes of SonicFox and GO1 without looking bad in the process.

A more recent game might offer more comfort to the EVO tourists.

I think DBFZ had a very bad launch, at least on PC

I bought it along with all of the people I play fighters online with, and even a few people on our discord who don't play fighters! We were so excited!

And we couldn't fucking play against each other for days!

    All but one refunded it.

I would say that purely as a game, and not as a streaming product, DBFZ is very very good, and has been linearly great since release, barring some launch issues

over 1k entrants for a game that doesn't get too much hype or exposure anymore is still pretty solid...

It's very fun, runs good.... the gameplay is accessible... I don't think it's unfair to make an apples to apples comparison with Guilty Gear and say DBFZ is a better fighting game on the whole... it takes all that style and polish of GG, and puts in a familiar setting with easier gameplay

They did the job. Apart from a mildly ridiculous cast, I don't think they could have done better. Which is a shame because they're giving it half-hearted post release support... it could have been the greatest game of this generation. Instead it will go down as an also-ran that relieved us of Marvel Infinite
