I will say, at least in Australia and it would not surprise me if it happened in other less religiony areas is that there is probably more religion in England and Canada than you think, it's just way less public and as an adult you just tend to group with people of a similar background as you.
So many of the kids that I teach believe in religion, I've seen flat out rat bag kids having an argument over scripture on the basketball courts and I once let slip that I was an atheist and you should have seen the shock and concern these kids had for my eternal soul. But as an adult I don't really see people like that because the majority of my friendship group see things the way I do.
