    sounds like a good look

Blake, i got the Able Carry Thirteen (so named because it's 13L) about three weeks ago, so still a ways to go to determine durability. i did just clean some 2-week-old dirt off, easily, so the fabric is a good choice.

as far as look and function goes, i like it.
it just looks... good, very tailored and minimal --and i feel a touch up my own ass, but whatever, fashion-- but with a bit of edge and sportiness; not too far in any one direction, stylewise. it does retain its shape whether empty or filled, which i hadn't considered caring about, but there is something satisfying to it vs the classic backpack's deflated balloon look.

the outer bottle pocket remains a bit tight (my main bottle is 7cm diameter with a silicone sleeve), and the front zip pocket is wide but shallowish, and can be a bit of a squeeze to dig into the bottom if the main compartment is jammed full. but for a smallish daypack, it suits my needs well, with options for but not overwhelming and fiddly organization. my main concern is how the zippers hold up since i kinda strained the fabric by shoving a 17" laptop in, but they're apparently racquet coil YKK, so will probably outlive me. the weight distributes well, and the shoulder straps are comfortable, so it doesnt feel like it needs chest or hip straps. it's been unusually cool (ie 100°F to the low 90s/~38°C-32), so i didn't notice any back sweat in <15 minutes of direct sun.

once i get back in the habit of climbing, i might try it as a gym bag, since it would readily fit my shoes, a change of clothes, and a shawl to light sweater-size knitting project (wallet, phone, keys, water bottle being default), but i already have a designated canvas tote for the purpose. point being, it can carry daily needs easily, and if you're an efficient, light packer, i think it would work for a weekend trip or longer.

i'd recommend it if you want a backpack for a light commute, or easy everyday carry.

i know Cormac linked it, but i'll link it again, and oh, hey, there's a pre-order for navy blue. i used a coupon code i found on their twitter account to knock 10% off mine.

for similar vibe, padded laptop pocket, & <20L capacity, i culled bags off this list, namely the Conceal (19L: original (80-90 USD), version 3 (295 USD)), Axiom 18 (245 USD), Dashpack (198 USD, or bump up to a lovely waxed canvas), and for a ringer --& probably the most intriguing lookswise (the straps look cool, but i'll take padding for an EDC thankyew)-- the Morph (€335 incl VAT). mostly way too spendy for me, and/or organization beyond my needs (Axiom particularly), and i'd decided i wanted an exterior bottle sleeve. the Dashpack would probably be my choice after the Thirteen.

That tiger shiiiiiiirt Shaz, it's so good

I am really into that Errant and the Best Made backpack you guys linked. I have a Timbuk2 cycling backpack in Extremely Yellow but it's not stylish, it's just functional for my needs - namely it has some reflectors in the fabric, it has external easily-reachable side pockets for my cell phone, keys, and sunglasses, a separated laptop pocket that fits my 15" Mac and my U-lock without them touching, and has room in the main compartment for almost everything I could possibly need.

If you're looking for a backpack that does that, I highly recommend it! Yesterday on my ride home it contained:

    1 set housekeys
1 set work keys and badges
1 pair regular glasses in case
    1 pair sunglasses in case
    1 mobile phone
    2 packets of pocket tissues
1 full outfit (long skirt, dress shirt, bra and undies)
    1 pair chunky high heels
    1 coffee thermos (empty)
    1 portable bike pump
    1 purse-sized umbrella
    1 wallet
    1 coin purse
    4x 400g cans whole tomatoes
    3x yellow onions
    2x bell peppers
    1 jar kalamata olives
    1 package strawberries (expiring soon)
    1 container feta cheese
    6 lemons
    1 head garlic

I did have to carry the U-lock separately to fit all of that but my point is, you can JAM it full of things, and also, I made some really nice sauce for shakshuka for dinner and tonight I'm making lemon bars if anyone wants to come over tomorrow I guess

I think I’m in the mood for something fashionable, I have big, practical ones, but I want something nice, I like these ones, https://bellroy.com/products/classic-backpack/dura_nylon/neon_cabernet but I feel I’m just being a tightarse and don’t want to spend over 200 dollars Australian on a bag.

    Those bellroy bags look nice!
I was browsing the smaller ones
Price seems reasonable, they look quality

I saw good reviews for their sling bag so I assume the brand is good

Bellroy do make really good stuff (my Bellroy leather wallet has been through the washing machine 4 times now and it's still fine), and Best Made charge like wounded bulls, so I can understand not wanting to pay $Texas for their bag when other stuff is likely just as great.

that Bellroy sling bag looks real nice

hm, for another sub-20L mixed-use bag, i think the Aer Sling Bag 2 appeals.
    12003_sb2_gray_model.JPG?format=400w
bit more palatable at US $80, too. but a nice extra of this bag is that there's a ventilated shoe pocket, the downside being it cuts into the main compartment when used. i wanted 2 padded straps, or this might've been a contender. but Aer in general has a lot of slick-looking options at a fairly high quality; seemingly allergic to color, but black is always fashionable, and at least the gray looks nice.

~21L, their Go Pack is meant to pack for travel, so it's light and scrunchable, but it offers a bit of organization and interest above the kind of stuff i've seen in that category (in casual browsing.) i think it looks useful and kinda cute.

Oh speaking of belt loops, one of mine always pops out (back left) what's an easy way to fix the broken loop?

It sucks because on my cheaper jeans I used to buy I kinda expected it but these are levi 541s and were three times the price.

How many hardcover novels can it hold at once?

This is literally my primary means of backpack usefulness.

Today I learned I'm a backwards ball cap guy instead of a front wards ball cap guy after almost 26 years of existence.

Well really I'm not an any kind of wards ball cap guy. My head has to be perfectly balanced between hair and beard and any other variable will throw everything off into a horrible MC Escher-esque nightmare of proportions so hats are usually right out. But if I need to wear one its gotta be backwards.

Now I know and knowing is half the battle.
