I feel bad for the girl doing her uneven bars routine during Biles' floor routine. You know nobody was watching her, probably not even her own judges.

Coolest bit I heard was that if she pulls those moves off at worlds, they'll get named after her.

That's a REALLY big honor in any kind of athletic event - to make your mark so solidly that people name a move after you.

I mean I don’t know much about it but it looked like she had a coach out there being pretty casual.

She was actually performing - you can see the judges watching, and hear some applause when she hits her dismount - but it's not uncommon to have coaches there for the more difficult moves. Just like Simone had the extra mat for her first tumbling pass.

Also Simone Biles is probably the greatest athlete on the planet right now.

I'm always torn between wondering whether gymnasts are in great physical shape because of all the exercise they get, or terrible shape because of all the punishment their joints must take.

It's both. "In shape" is not a binary.

I've read accounts of top level gymnasts being told that their joints are in the condition that one would expect of someone twice their age. It's an astonishingly punishing sport. Gymnasts are at the peak of physical excellence in terms of performance but absolutely annihilated in terms of their personal health.

It would also be something like the 3rd or 4th move that she has named after her.

Simon Biles is really, really good

Well that and we can see from the Nassar scandal, there are additional icky factors involved in gymnastics.

A Fireman and a Clown walk into a brothel.....

    https://youtu.be/RYUhKcJAsrQ

This story is absolutely crazy. Apparently the different groups of firemen in Toronto were basically rival gangs, and would literally show up to fires and brawl over who got to put out the fire! This video talks about an event in Toronto's history where the firemen got into a huge brawl with a bunch of clowns.

Give me a cyberpunk noir movie about a former virtual idol making ends meet as a deeply cynical private detective.

Actually, having written that, I assume there are at least a few wildly popular animes with that exact plotline, so ignore me.

no I think that's wholly untapped material, you've got yourself an original story

I mean, Aria Joie from the COUNTER/Weight season of Friends at the Table was a pop star who performed with a giant mech backup dancer who quit to become a smuggler/mercenary

and then her former employers turned her likeness into a virtual idol releasing new songs and throwing concerts and so on.

Also Zoe Quinn's Goddess Mode comic has a character who is a world famous singer who frequently lets a virtual idol simulation of herself handle performances while she's busy basically being a cyberpunk sailor scout

well a bit of questionable history
It's buried deep now but various NM state officials visited Turkmenistan's state run oil company for tips and other reasons but received gifts and did not declare them nor did they say until hauled to court over corruption. Where they were cleared of all charges.
