I'm asking because of something a guy said on Twitter about how school grades are a competition, which made 0 sense to me because when i was in school, pretty much everyone would at least pass until College.
So I guess if the success rate is that low, it would make sense to see school grades as a sort of zero sum game / competition as opposed to seeing it like a cooperative affair.
you can graduate with a wide range of GPAs and test scores, so there's still competition to be at the top of the pile and look better for college applications
it's largely bullshit for most people who aren't competing to go to Harvard or whatever but it's still drilled in your head it's super duper totally important you guys
when in truth most people should be going to community college after high school to save money and figure out what they want to do at like 1/5 the cost

a linter is a bossy little checker that looks for things that are easy for computers to catch and stupid for people to spend a lot of time thinking about, like what order are my import/using statements in, or how big are my tabs/spaces, or am I declaring variables but not using them, etc

I can only make sense of that in the sense that some teachers might curve grades, but that's usually only if no one did well. I spent time in public and private schools and wouldn't describe any of them as a competition, as far as the grades.
maybe like, doing more activities being on more teams etc., which colleges care about especially if you're trying to go somewhere "elite" and can't buy your way in, that becomes competitive. certainly the admissions process is competitive, in college and in private schools (for some kids starting at like 4 years old, if TV sitcoms are to be believed)
While an experimental vaccine previously had been shown to shield people from catching Ebola, the news marks a first for people who already have been infected. “From now on, we will no longer say that Ebola is incurable,” said Jean-Jacques Muyembe, director general of the Institut National de Recherche Biomedicale in the DRC, which has overseen the trial’s operations on the ground.
The results were most striking for patients who received treatments soon after becoming sick, when their viral loads were still low—death rates dropped to 11 percent with mAb114 and just 6 percent with Regeneron’s drug, compared with 24 percent with ZMapp and 33 percent with Remdesivir.

Nah, I think I just feel like a thug.
I’m thinking about doing a vow of celibacy for a year or something. No masturbation or sex. But still watch porn and explore my sexuality in other ways~
Just a thought, not set in stone

I am having career concerns at the moment, and last night I had a dream about flying an airplane to the most on. Except we crashed on some telephone wires.
A little on the nose there, brain. You’re fired for using shitty obvious metaphor.

I mean, it is, but also I'm reasonably sure that football matches don't last 12 hours. Even though it can feel like that when you're trapped at one.

do you think i want memories of being in Airdrie?
I did this a year and a half ago. It's going... okay. Absolutely worth doing though.

this job would be more of a service management job and not at all the path i want to follow
but it will tide me over until i get on the track i want to be on
or at least it will be something i can do while i finish my degree and then i can just start over

so yes
Saying it’s not a lot is. . .not accurate
I mean, no judgement - we typically would drink like 30 beers during a 4 hour d&d session (4-5 people drinking)
But it is a lot
