I’m not sure I can articulate why but this shot really works for me. The blown out, hazy type of atmosphere almost puts me in mind of an inviting version of The Mist or Silent Hill. Which is probably an awful comparison point, but oh well - words are hard.

Also I’d be very interested in seeing your video work, or being pointed toward the appropriate thread if this isn’t it. I suppose I could say that I do video production professionally but that would be a bit of a stretch - we have a modest video setup at my work that I use to film our promo videos for social media, television commercials, and odds & ends projects as needed. It’s not as big a part of my job as I would like, but I love doing video work and I’ve been trying to arrange more in my time off. I should be doing my first music video within the next few weeks which I’m excited (and incredibly nervous) about.

In dreaded “I got an iPhone so it’s time to become a professional photographer” news, I got an iPhone so it’s time to become a professional photographer. I realize I’m pretty late to the party on this because I’ve mostly stuck with midrange phones with fairly awful cameras, but I’m really impressed with the XS camera. It’s no match for even an entry-level DSLR, but it seems phenomenal for “the best camera is the one you have with you” situations. I had one of those today - I took a wrong turn and stumbled into a pretty neat location in my wife’s family hauler CRV.
    40686316673_e00eac9a84_c.jpg

I love the workflow of shooting on my phone, importing to Lightroom, and editing on my iPad pro. Like I said, it’s no replacement for a ‘proper’ setup, but I can see myself using it a lot for more casual shoots and events that I can’t/don’t care enough to drag my 6D and lenses out to.

@Blakout Thanks! Yeah I like that one too, despite it being a "technically poor" photo haha. Happy accident!

That's so cool you do video at work! This is literally my first test footage, that I then decided to try and edit together. Many mistakes made. Many lessons learned haha.

@Sublimus keep posting man, not clogging at all - that's what it's here for. hose last two photos are gorgeous man, great comps, great editing. Love the compositions on your cityscapes as well. I've been shooting some video now that I got a new camera, mine are more blips of nature/life stuff and not much more than that, but it's a start I suppose. *Edit: I drafted this response before you posted your video so I love that yours are also nature shots! :D

I also agree with Blakout - maybe we're just suckers for a good light flare.

@blakout been hearing more and more about the cameras on the XS and all the new iphones really. Quality looks great, I've been taking my fuji on most of my vacations (what little time I get to actually leave town) and really like the workflow on the ipad and my samsung phone as well. There's something much easier about not having to do the whole computer editing thing that I dig as well.

Been forcing myself to shoot with my new fuji xt30, which I've had almost a month now without much use besides one event photo gig and a couple shots here and there. Hopefully will be posting some video as well although the very thought of editing video straight up gives me anxiety for some reason (even though I've done a decent amount here and there in the past)...

Went out last night and apparently I'm doing reflections again! Really do love finding faces/patterns in the trees and clouds.

Thanks @tynic !... realized as I read your comment I mis-named that photo. Definitely a sunrise hahaha. That's mostly how it looked in person, definitely a bit more yellow/orange but not by much. Was a really incredible really long colorful sunrise. I'll be posting more from it as well, the color scheme kept changing almost by the minute it was pretty crazy.

Been playing with split toning quite a bit lately, highlights are basically the same as the previous one with shadows brought in as orange/yellow also.

Man, now I'm remembering why I never got into Photography, because the level of talent on display is so much further beyond mine.
Okay, I really came here cause I've got a dumb question I need some help with.
My phone can shoot RAW. Hooray. When I take a picture it gives me the jpeg and the... DNG File.
Why does the Multiple times bigger file show up as some washed out square cropped piece of garbage? Like, I know that's needed if I want to take this into Photoshop, but I'm basically asking what to do with the files otherwise? Also, should I just delete those when they get backed up to Google Photos? Help fellow nerds!

Hello! Raw files are uncompressed (or losslessly compressed) and more importantly, contain the full bit depth your camera’s sensor is capable of. That means they’re basically “HDR” compared to standard JPGs, giving you much more data to play with when you “develop” them. The usual process for me is to shoot only in Raw, take those shots into Adobe Lightroom, and tweak exposure, contrast, color etc there, before exporting out JPG files of the ones I want to share.

If you don’t want or need that, I’d disable it - but if you want to do any postprocessing to get more out of your images, shoot in raw :)

@djmitchella really making me want to take a trip back to Seattle, beautiful photos - seen so many photos of the Public Market but really love your nighttime take on it.

Went on a 4 day backpack trip with my 73yr old outdoorsman hippy uncle. I've mentioned before in the chat thread that he keeps a catalog of drawings of everyplace he camps at and has since the 70's.
