Several people in there cite how much they enjoy Franz Nicolay's keyboard.
And obviously they're right, he's fantastic. He also played piano and accordion for a band frequently in my top ten, The World/Inferno Friendship Society, and has some really good solo stuff. Check it out:

I'm a "Cattle & Creeping Things" and "Both Crosses" guy, but "How A Resurrection Really Feels" is reeeeeal high up on my list. When it gets to the title line, it's absolutely revelatory.

Yeah he's on Red Eyed Soul and Addicted to Bad Ideas, I believe. Maybe some earlier albums too - I know he left close to the time I was getting into them, as I only remember seeing him at one or two shows.
Specifically I remember him on Ich Erinnere mich an die Weimarer Republik, as he's got a solo there.
New Blanck Mass and King Gizzard albums are out Friday.
the gizz's infect the rats nest just hit spotify, but i can't listen to it because my partner has hijacked spotify while she "packs the house" for when we have to "move next weekend", or something
they also released a doom-style browser FPS this week called 'mars for the rich' which currently appears to be down
New(ish) single off the second part of Foal's Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost that dropped a couple months ago. I think it's out Oct. 18th. I really enjoyed Pt.1.
There are a lot of good albums out today but I think the one I'm enjoying most is the new King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. It's just a really good old school metal/thrash metal album about climate change and taking to task technocrats that only propose solutions for the rich, and it is an extremely cathartic listen.
it immediately reminded me of being a teenager and listening to rancid's 2000 record and having my face melted in the best way. lyrically this is conceptual and just a little more subtle than tim armstrong's "you're a rattlesnake, you're full of shit, i fucking hate you," but when the opener descended into repetitions of "there is no planet B" following some very matt-freemanesque bass, i was on board

Think folks at work may be getting sick of me growling "THERE IS NO PLANET B!" under my breath for 3 straight days. I've always liked KGatLW, but this album has made me an advocate.
Also, I just stopped by the Newbury Comics near my office to see if they had anything fun from like 20 years ago that I can't find on Amazon Music. They did.
Sasha & Digweed's Northern Exposure 2, both East Coast and West Coast editions, $4 each. Also found a copy of Dredg's Leitmotif (not on Amazon, but the rest of their albums are), and a totally random collection I had back in the day called Ultra. Chilled 01. I put back a copy of El Cielo by dredg because it's on Amazon, and I'm fairly certain I have a copy still. They also had Sasha's Global Underground San Francisco, but it was the lame US re-release, not the original UK version. The only differences are that it's numbered Global Underground 03 instead of 09, and it's missing one of the best tracks in the whole set, Der Dritte Raum's Hale Bopp:

Well I'm way behind. Silversun Pickups' new album has been out since April, and I really kind of love it? I've had this song on repeat for the past two days. The drumming in the middle eight is just *shudders* so good. Chris Guanlao is easily one of my favorite drummers ever.

Fear Inoculum is...good. It's good! It's going to disappoint people who have been waiting for 13 years with baited breath but anything would.
The tracks are all individually fine and even good (although every single actual track clocking in at 10 minutes or longer feels a bit self-indulgent), but they don't feel like a cohesive whole in the way that Aenima, Lateralus, or 10,000 Days do. There's no real flow from song to song or a unifying "feel," for lack of a better term, for the whole album. It's just a collection of pretty good songs, each of which feel like they were written in a vacuum to stand on their own and not to form a particular collection of songs with a particular goal.
Which like, hey, I'll still listen to and get enjoyment out of it. But it is, as I feared, over-produced as a result of the 13 year process.

It's very... sleepy. Lots of whooshy ambient filler tracks and bleep bloops and spacey ocean noises.
Not a whole lot of the piss and vinegar and righteous anger of like, Undertow.

This is how I felt about Lateralus and that one grew on me a ton. Maybe this will be similar.
