    why

Just undercut by like one silver! Or one copper! People will buy yours first! What are you doing ruining the profits for everyone?!

    That's me.

I do that because people with the TSM will immediately buy it so I can list it at the lowest length auction and not have to deal with maybe no one buying it.

haven't seen any SCT stuff yet and not sure if it's available. I did find an addon for mob health that's nice (at work so can't recall the name). I'm a sucker when it comes to skills and spells and such and buy them all. I'm sure if i was better about only buying useful i'd be closer to 20g at level 29 but i spend like there's no tomorrow.

I wasn't aware of an addon that handled mob health for classic. Perhaps I haven't looked hard enough. I've only gotten it to show health percentage so far.

Wait what? Why are you paying silver if you're selling something?

You pay the auction house a percentage of everything you put up on it, regardless if you actually sell it or not.

If you re-post something even once you're quite possibly losing more money than if you posted it once at a lower price.

EDIT: For clarity, you pay a deposit equal to a percentage of the vendor sale price, dependant upon the duration of the posting (24 hours is 60%!)

But you also pay a percentage of 5% for anything you actually sell.

EDIT EDIT: Oh, also, you get the deposit back, but only if you actually sell it. Which, again, incentivizes getting that sale through on the first try.

I wouldn't be surprised if the AH is partly a mess because some are basing their prices off of how things go on retail. The prices for most mats plummeted ever since they made it so that people didn't have to go through profession stuff for the base game and previous expansions to hit the recipes for the current expansion. No doubt that also impacted prices for anything crafted from those mats. Figure you get something that is really lazy and the most they do going into classic AH is decide they need to lower the price even more because gold is even harder to acquire. Ironically, I think some of the stuff in retail might actually be going at rate that would make sense in classic, but I suspect some of it is already going for a lower rate than what is called for in classic as well. Finally, wouldn't be surprised if attitudes for private servers are influencing things as well. I've seen some vanilla servers get called out for upping the amount of gold that dropped.

  • Kai_SanKai_San Commonly known as Klineshrike! Registered User regular
No the prices are low because the servers have waaaaaaaay more people than vanilla ones could handle, and like every single person is following some guide about gathering so the market is flooded to hell

Also, prices typically go up for things as more money enters the game. If the market is flooded with product before many players have actually produced raw gold, there is no way they can purchase things at high prices. Vanilla definitely is more controlled by vendor prices so that has a huge impact as well.

Once a ton of people are 60 and farming high amounts of gold prices will go up. Then low level mats will dry up as many max level people grind up engineering for pvp or something like that.

Also it is entirely possible to be sitting on way more than 20g at 30 if you grind to level. There are some late 20s / early 30s mobs that drop greys worth like 8s at high rates. That can get you flooded with gold real quick

  • crimsoncoyotecrimsoncoyote Registered User regular
Just checked and I'm sitting at 18.5g. I haven't done anything I would classify as grinding, however I have skipped several gold worth of abilities and lw recipes, so it adds up.

I'm pretty sure you always get your deposit back, whether it sells or not. That's what makes it a deposit. You're not losing money every time an auction fails.

Only thing is 5% cut or 30% cut on the neutral AH.

this auction house stuff reminds me, back about 5months after release there was a stupid amount of glut of silk cloth on the auction house. from the beginning rise of chinese farmers and people in general.
I literally ran back and forth a couple of times to check the vendor price and the auction prices that were listed. Sure enough, people were so adamant about selling all white+ mats/gear on auction they never looked at the vendor price (because people *knew* that auction houses always meant better than vendor prices).

I began buying all the silk cloth below vendor price and sold it for like... 80g profit... at level 35.
and it wasn't all one dumbass player or chinese guy either, it was like 20 or 30 people putting up their trash silk from arathi highlands or where ever...

I looked over all the other listed materials in the game a few times trying to find discrepancies like that but never found one like it again.
This was also before lots of auction mods that help prevent absolutely noob economic mistakes like that from happening, but I just happened to be needing a bulk of silk for first aid bandies and there it was... dirt dirt cheap free money.

Blizzard comment on the hysterics about layering exploitation:

We’ve been monitoring players’ use of layers, and we agree that we should add a delay between subsequent layer transfers. Under the hood we have all the controls I talked about in the Reddit AMA before launch, a few secret weapons we haven’t discussed publicly, and we’re working on deploying some additional controls to further restrain layering from being exploitable.

However, we also want to assure you that the issue is a much smaller problem than some people are claiming. We’ve been closely monitoring the effect layering is having on economies and other aspects of the game, and many of the stories we see posted are wildly inaccurate. We’ve seen screenshots of banks full of rare crafting materials, which we’ve investigated and proved false.

Another popular theory is that you can determine your current layer by doing a /who in a capital city, and comparing the results against the /who your friend does. That doesn’t work because /who returns results from the entire realm, not just from your layer, and if the result set is too large it truncates the results before sorting them. This means every player gets different results, but those differences in result set have nothing to do with which layer you’re on. This has led some people to claim that they’ve discovered dozens of layers per realm, but that claim is completely false.

All realms have a single-digit number of layers. Most of them have a low single-digit number.

Rest assured that there are not people running around with banks full of (Thorium) Arcane Crystals or Black Lotus.

You lose the deposit if it doesn't sell. The whole point of it is for people to not use the AH with unsellable prices as a second bank.
