Excellent. I promise to use my new powers only for violence. And I probably won't just cower inside my Sustain sphere the first time a threatening Roomba hoves into view.
We actually get quite a bit of stuff done in this interlude. Lt. Tofystedeth and Lt. JayKaos go for some team training to further develop their bond. Shen finishes some fiddling around and hands over an experimental gas grenade for the troops. Which is cool. Hopefully they'll be careful with it, if it goes off inside the Skyranger that'll be a bad time. Tygan also figures out how to apply weapon upgrades to Fencingsax's rifle.
Cpl. Misc and Sq. Straightzi get back from their covert op and now we can collect our supply drops instantaneously. Misc gets a promotion to Sergeant (Demolition (damage or destroy cover) or Suppression (pin a target with your cannon, imposing an aim penalty and gaining a reaction shot against them) @miscellaneousinsanity ) Straightzi gets +4 to his hacking and also gets wounded. So they both get something, that's nice. I then send Sgt. Snickety and Sq. Jeddy out together.
I hire another new rookie - welcome aboard Asthariel - and sent him straight for Ranger training. Gotta keep our pool of replacement bodies topped up. We finish shielding a power coil and construct the Shadow Chamber in its place, and then we make contact with the New Arctic, which introduces us to our final Chosen bastard. Hooray.
Snickety and Jeddy return unscathed with a stash of Ability Points in their pockets. Sgt. Mvrck and Sq. Straightzi are dispatched to sabotage the Avatar project some more. I then realise I am sitting on a massive pile of communal AP, so I go on an ability gifting spree.
Fencingsax gets Tactical Rigging, so he can actually take an item on mission. Apparently his big floaty trenchcoat doesn't have any pockets.
Zxerol gets Field Medic.
Jedoc gets Sustain to improved his survivability, and Aftershock to make his Volt power more useful.
Tofystedeth and DarthWaiter both get Return Fire.
JayKaos gets Heavy Ordnance to give us an extra grenade.
Baidol gets Conceal.
David T gets Blast Padding, to make her a bit tankier.
Then some mission options pop up, so we head out to the New Arctic to locate and neutralise an ADVENT field commander and, more importantly, to counteract the dark event Made Whole which sounds horrible.
Oh man, is that me in the red armor? I'm going to look really cool for the glory shot where the alien tears my arms off and beats me to death with them!

I was a bit confused about how they work for a while. As far as I can tell they mark targets within their radius as high priority for the Lost, but it doesn't guarantee the Lost will go for them. If your guys are much closer or the Lost don't have LOS to the target they seem to ignore them and go for you. Which on the one hand is disappointing, but actually I think I like the feeling of gambling that comes with using it.

Intermission Base Report
Thanks to Sgt. Mvrck and Cpl. Straightzi's success in valiantly running away from ADVENT, the Avatar project has been set back slightly again. Cpt. Baidol is then sent out on a task for the reapers and so impresses them that when he returns one of said reapers comes with him to join our mission. Welcome to XCOM, Cpt. Lasbrook. Baidol also gains +1 health from the op, to help him with his dream of tanking muton fire. Best buds Lt. Tofystedeth and Lt. JayKaos then go out together to hunt for a lead on an ADVENT facility.
Tygan finishes researching Elerium and then makes a breakthrough in Future Combat 1, giving us a 20% discount on GTS upgrades. He then says he's got some bright ideas about Powered Armour so I tell him to start researching that.
We build a radio relay in the New Arctic to hopefully help with contacting more of Asia in future.
Then we get reports of a landed UFO within range. Our newly upgraded 6-person squad is dispatched for our very first UFO mission. Seems crazy it's taken this long. It should be squad 1, but the Sitrep says there's vipers on site so MrGrimoire sits this one out and Sgt. Misc takes his place. Hobnail gets his first outing because I need to develop some more high-ranking snipers. And new guys Asthariel and Lasbrook are also going along. Lotta fresh blood on this mission. Try to keep it inside your bodies.

Given the fact that I had to use my faithful little lord of the flies to heal myself, I think I'll have to go with medical protocol. I'll probably switch over to some hacking stuff later, as I know at least one of my covert ops upped my hack score earlier, but for now, medical attention is my top priority.
By the way, there's a bit of a weird thing with the way crits are handled in this: the game uses the same roll for whether an attack hits as it does for whether it crits. So, if an attack has a 20% chance to hit and a 20% chance to crit, if it hits it will be a crit. It's not like having lower defense is safer or anything weird like that, since you've still got just as much chance of being hit with a crit, but more shots that would've been misses will be regular hits. But just keep in mind that crits will be happening more often than you might expect.
You know what, you guys handle the snakes. I'll be back here in the base, where the only snakes are chopped off heads on the trophy board. Where they belong. Now if there's a snake-free mission in the near future, I'll be there all the way! Ready to be blown up whenever and where-ever you need me.

Thanks to Sgt. Mvrck and Cpl. Straightzi's success in valiantly running away from ADVENT, the Avatar project has been set back slightly again. Cpt. Baidol is then sent out on a task for the reapers and so impresses them that when he returns one of said reapers comes with him to join our mission. Welcome to XCOM, Cpt. Lasbrook. Baidol also gains +1 health from the op, to help him with his dream of tanking muton fire. Best buds Lt. Tofystedeth and Lt. JayKaos then go out together to hunt for a lead on an ADVENT facility.
Tygan finishes researching Elerium and then makes a breakthrough in Future Combat 1, giving us a 20% discount on GTS upgrades. He then says he's got some bright ideas about Powered Armour so I tell him to start researching that.
We build a radio relay in the New Arctic to hopefully help with contacting more of Asia in future.
Then we get reports of a landed UFO within range. Our newly upgraded 6-person squad is dispatched for our very first UFO mission. Seems crazy it's taken this long. It should be squad 1, but the Sitrep says there's vipers on site so MrGrimoire sits this one out and Sgt. Misc takes his place. Hobnail gets his first outing because I need to develop some more high-ranking snipers. And new guys Asthariel and Lasbrook are also going along. Lotta fresh blood on this mission. Try to keep it inside your bodies.
