A passenger aircraft with 337 people on board was forced to divert in February after the pilot spilled coffee on the controls panel, UK investigators say.
The Airbus A330-243 from Frankfurt, Germany, to Cancun, Mexico, had to land in Shannon, Ireland, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) reports.
This was because the pilots' audio control panels (ACP) started melting and there was smoke in the cockpit.
The pilots had to use oxygen masks. There were no injuries.
The coffee was hot enough to conduct electricity. Which is to say it was liquid.
Water ice and water vapor both conduct electricity, so more data needed
It would have to be liquid to be in enough quantity or be in contact with enough components. Either way neither here nor there. The point is that the temperature of the coffee was not the issue

I am pretty sure nobody here actually thought that the temperature of the coffee was the reason the panel melted.
What seems weird to me is that for this size of commercial passenger aircraft, some level of water proofness isn't already required in the cockpit instruments/controls - I'm pretty sure pilots have been eating/drinking coffee for a while while seated in the cockpit.

Cockpit controls are not expected to be exposed to direct fluid contact so there's no need. They are about as waterproof as a laptop.
The pessimist in me is going that they are obviously going to be in a few cases - drink spillage being an obvious one (and some models that have opening windows in the cockpit, could lead to water getting into the cockpit while in the ground in a storm - to then short circuit something later in flight.)
On a wholly unrelated note my roommate has a pile of high quality and totally modern laptops that are not 5-10 years old that he's definitely going to fix so he can sell them and

It's cheaper to give the pilots cups with lids. Which wasn't done here. But will be done in the future.

Joakim Sennesvik (member of Høyre, the conservative party) was not reelected to the city council of Bodø.
By one vote.
The exact same same thing happened to him in the election of 2011. He also lost by one vote then.
Gone right? I don't like his party. :P

I like to imagine it being a close family member.
Spilling coffee on plane controls is a bit more serious:
It’s not a very important country most of the time

Little known fact:
the Airbus A330-243 control panel is made of chocolate for efficiency reasons
Can you imagine if this guy was too busy running to remember to vote?
The typography fails are great but i do not get the memes at all.
