mobile phones! the pinnacle of communication technology! they call, they text, you can play Snake on there, we cracked the fucking code

but then we kept going, for some reason

these still call and text and probably play Snake, and now you can watch pornography and get elected president on them, but you can also play literally millions of video games! some of them are actually not blatant cash grabs targeted at 6 year olds and Wall Street morons! but how do you figure out which is which? before you'd just have to scroll and pray

    I enjoy playing PUBG and Call of Duty a lot more on mobile than I do on console. It's insane how much more polished the experience for the former is compared to the beefier platforms. I got an ipad pro in preparation for Photoshop but god knows when that's coming out anymore so yeah sure I'll give apple arcade a shot.

    I would have to imagine they are getting stuff that does on their subscription service, at the very least

    I only play mobile games for 6 year olds and Wall Street morons though, and that Chu Chu Rocket looks kind of bunk

    by doing what they claimed they were going to do with the app store in the first place... which is actually look at what's being put on there and have standards

    also they're financially backing a lot of these games (not all, but a fair bit) so they have some publisher authority over how the games are, feature-wise

    I play like 2 or 3 hours of the Eternal TCG every day on my phone

    The apple arcade experience looks like its so far very disposable games you'll spend 20 minutes on

    Will be interesting to see if they come out with anything more in depth

    I dug into one of Hearthstone's singleplayer deckbuilding modes a couple of days ago and had a pretty fun time with it! I appreciate that it's "enough" Hearthstone that I don't really feel the need to get back into the competitive side of it. Sated!

    as far as i know its supposed to add real multi-tasking and a few other power use things.... mine hasn't been given the update yet though *edit* the ipad version doesn't come out until next week whoops

    It does feel a little weird to see so much excitement and hype around what appears to be Spotify But For Games. I'm honestly pretty worried that long term Arcade is going to be a really bad deal for the developers on it, which I guess is only really gonna be a big problem if it gets the amount of saturation in the market that Spotify appears to have (I say as someone with no actual understanding of Spotify's marketshare)

    I hope it’s good because gacha and other systems where the game feels like it was designed to sell you stuff before they designed the gameplay itself are poisonous trash and ruined mobile gaming.

    i have heard that the deals for developers are pretty bad, but also the ios store is such a flaming trashfire that i guess some are giving it a go anyway.

    i'll probably do my free trial, play around with some of these and cancel, since nothing looks like something i'd want to play for any real length of time.

    Hey folks, did you look at Apple Arcade and think "this seems cool, but it's not Android-y enough"? Well, Google has you covered.

    They're launching a competing subscription service that's available this week. It honestly appears to me as kind of...half-assed? It's especially weird considering Stadia is due to roll out before too long.
