No meetings for the day, so I'm gonna spin it a few times before making judgement.
Edit - Once through and I really loved it. Pneuma, Culling Voices, and 7empest were all standout great songs. The guitar work on 7empest is fucking crazy, and the drumming on Pneuma is inspiring as all hell.

My partner put me onto PUP as it's one of her favorite bands. We're going to see them on Wednesday, but their song Sleep In The Heat is some fucking sad shit and I love it. The video also features young Finn Wolfhard.

New As I Lay Dying dropped today. It's their first album since 2012, and it sounds like they never left the game. Really fast classic sounding Metalcore, almost Thrashy at times. My only complaint is Tim definitely sounds drowned out in the mix, but even when he's not his screams are not as powerful as they were before leaving. Still really good instrumentally, and definitely AILD. Satisfying to hear new material after 7 years.
Uhhhh didn't that guy go to prison for hiring a hitman to kill his wife? Why on earth would the band take him back after that?
Because he did solid time in prison? They believe he's rehabilitated. I think there's something to say about people supporting someone who can change and make real change, instead of damning them for all time.
I gotta admit, there were a few moments during that video where I actually went “oh I like this...”
But I also don’t listen to much psytrance.

We Came As Romans just released new singles, one of which is a remembrance ballad for Kyle. Fans of the band are sure to choke up, it's pretty awesome.
Lingua Nada's Djinn dropped last week and it's some filthy spazzy noisepop front-to-back; highly recommended if you crave think aural walls of detuned synths and heavily flanged guitar.

Lots of new albums dropped today. TDWP, Varials, Waterparks, Lacuna Coil, Bury Your Dead is back with an EP. Just tons of new stuff.
That being said I've only had time to check out TDWP's new album The Act. In short, it's brilliant. It's not a metalcore album, but it more of a moody post-hardcore industrial album with sprinkles of metal and heavy breakdowns tossed around. It really pushes some genre lines so it's hard to describe, but I love it. It's almost like if NIN decided to go metal, it would probably sound something like this. Each song is emotional as hell and packs their own punch. It's probably my favorite album of theirs since With Roots or Zombie, but for an entirely different reason. Also the album art is sick. Here's some favorites that aren't the singles, but really check out the whole album.

Dude is honestly probably the most talented musician of the 20th century.
Oh and for good measure, here's an old-timey video of Aretha tearing the roof off of "Eleanor Rigby". It's better than the original, come at me:

Boy Harsher are so great. If you like that record I also highly recommend checking out their Lesser Man release.
Oh, and most people I know would call them a Darkwave band.

Yeah, he was in PUP's vids before NSP's, but he certainly is like all over the place in music videos now. I'm all for it, I love Finn.

You should be listening to Big Thief
Unsurprisingly, it’s incredible - feels very cinematic and a huge leap forward for her from My Woman, which was already a favorite album from 2016
2019 has been a great year for new music
