I would imagine all given that those decals are all produced without his permission.

I love the doofy expressions his characters make when they're in imminent peril.

Like yeah sure they're going to die but look at their face and I just laugh

I honestly don't think I could pick a favourite, but Larson once said this was his most misunderstood comic, and I get a lot of pleasure out of that.

I'm not sure I get the joke either. Is it that it doesn't look like the Grand Canyon? Some geographical joke pertaining to the Holstein region?

Funny story: This comic got Larson an indignant letter from the Jane Goodall Institute, who did that without Goodall's knowledge. She actually found the comic fairly amusing when she found out about it. Now you can buy t-shirts with the cartoon at the Smithsonian. All proceeds from the sales go to the Jane Goodall Institute.

The joke is just that there is a family taking the stock standard obligatory photo in front of the Grand canyon, and one kid is doing the devil horns over the others head. Also they're cows.

Most people read the hooves as a bow, but still find the comic funny, and I love that. I love that you can miss the intended joke and the inherent absurdity still carries the comic.

Edit: I'm guessing that most people who feel they don't 'get' the far side are looking for deeper jokes than are actually there.

Do you think the "new online era" is just them making a cryptic announcement reminding everyone about The Far Side so they can scrape the internet for all the scans that everyone uploads over the next couple of weeks? That way they can just slap them all onto a website and save on the digitization costs.

His idea of God was, and honestly still is, the bedrock of my personal theology. At least on my more optimistic days. Just a dude messing around, seeing what works, not really sure where the experiment is going, but very excited to watch it all happen.

Realizing lately that I don't really trust or respect basically any of the moderators here. So, good luck with life, friends! Hit me up on Twitter @DesertLeviathan

I always found the aliens buzzing the city screaming "YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAA!" putting a stupid grin on my face.

Another favorite that speaks to my childish sense of humor: "In the one split second, when the choir's last note had ended, but before the audience could respond, Vinnie Conswego belches the phrase, "That's all folks."

Is there a story behind the different captions? Because the readable one feels a lot more like a jokey Farside comic, but as Cow Tools illustrated, Larson would occasionally just go weird with it.
I'm wondering if there was an editor somewhere who just said "Nope, that's gonna get the evangelical types all over my nuts..." in regards to the slug god, and grabbed a handful of Scrabble tiles to rework it in the last 30 seconds before it went to print.

Yeah, I thought so when I posted it. But I just figured my old man memory was playing tricks on me.

Looks like it was changed in The Complete Far Side for some reason.
