Assuming he's allowed to go full dragon and grind some levels, Ryu would totally beat Ryu in a fight. SF Ryu only has a dragon punch, BoF Ryu has the entire rest of the dragon as well.

Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.

    Not exactly!

The first three games definitely take place in the same world. The fourth and fifth take place in different settings.

The sixth does, too, but nobody knows about that game.

Ryu 6 is also the older brother of the BoF6 protagonist, not the hero himself.

All of them can turn into dragons that trivialize combat. It’s a series that tends to be on the easy side other than 2, which has some experience curve issues

I always figured that reincarnation came into play to some extent.
If that was the case, they'd also all be the same Ryu.

This made me google Breath of Fire 6, which lead to me being shocked to my core when an actual Wikipedia result popped up.

Then I read the contents of that page, and I blame you for the cursed knowledge I gained.

I'm watching Giant Bomb's Dreamcast Streamcast and they're playing Street Fighter 3rd Strike or whatever

How come fighting games, a genre I'm consistently terrible at, always have the best looking art

This game looks incredible, but I would never be able to play it

Where's my cool adventure game with this art style!
I know it's because it would be a lot more work or something, but I wanna complain

If we accept the theory of Oro from Sf3 is Ryu in the future and there is a single frame that you can see Oros dick therefore we've seen Ryu's dick

    I'm curious...

Did Dragon Quarter kill Breath of Fire, or did Dragon Quarter happen because 4 had already damaged it?

Or did Capcom kill it as part of its decade of chasing Western trends, and all the games sold fine?

I definitely think the overall impression is that Dragon Quarter got too weird and people just wanted more classic RPGs from that series. Also Dragon Quarter was kind of a weird testing ground for Dead Rising's eventual mechanics?

Anyway yeah by the time Dragon Quarter was out JRPGs were kind of on a downswing and having this just weird thing not a lot of people were willing to look at coming from an admittedly solid B-franchise kind of killed it.

I think pretty much everyone likes BoF4?

Fou-lu is probably the breakout people's favorite in Breath of Fire 4, I was hoping we'd see him again in Capcom-wide crossovers. Technically he's also Ryu.

Not a day goes by that I don't think about playing Breath of Fire 3 or 4 again. But then I remember some of the systems in those games and realize that I just don't have the patience anymore. Put 'em on Switch. My tolerance for BS is much higher on handheld consoles.

Was it four that had the dragon gene system?

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
  • WearingglassesWearingglasses Of the friendly neighborhood variety Registered User regular
    Ryu Streetfighter
Three also had it, and you mix and match up to three genes to come up with a Dragon. Bof3 had more varied forms instead of the standard half-dragon transformation in BoF4.

There's some hidden combinations to make up Super Saiyan Dragon Ryu, or a fusion to become a dragon based on your party mates.

BoF3's dragon implementation was great, it's the Master/Trainer systems, fairy village, and (to a lesser extent) fishing that keep me from another playthrough. Same with BoF4, but I also remember the pacing being slower? Or maybe the third game jumped around more?

I have fond memories of BoF2 as well, and I hope that lands on the Switch SNES library, but the translation/localization on the SNES version is horrible.

I recently bought BoF4 on PSN when it went on sale for under $5. I barely touched it but hey now it's there for when I want to get around to it.

BoF1 is real rough. It's basically a NES game on the SNES in terms of music, text, and a lot of design elements.
    I remember 2 being a lot better.

3 was one of my favorite PSX games. It definitely had some annoying time sinks, but also a lot of really great stuff. For instance, the battle animations for kid Ryu.

Never played 4. I should remedy that. Looks like there was a PC version, but don't know if it's available on any storefront.

BoF1 is on SNES and GBA. Also phones in Japan apparently?
BoF2 is also on SNES and GBA, but the GBA version is quite a bit better. Better encounter rate and such.
BoF3 is on PS1, and has a PSP only port
BoF4 is on PS1, and is a PSClassic so is available on PS3, PSP, and Vita.
Dragon Quarter is on PS2 and I think PS3 as a digital release.

    We don't talk about BoF6

BoF1 and 2 are also on the Wii U and New 3DS Virtual Console, and 1 is now on the Switch's online SNES library

the PSP version of 3 is on PSN, so if you have a PSP or Vita you can get it digitally there

Dragon Quarter is the only game in the series to only ever come out physically, on PS2.
