For it to be a security system to detect movement, you’d have to have a set of mirrors on the other side also moving with the lasers movement. And/or some heavy duty computation going on in real time to prevent false positives. Just having a laser shooting out doesn’t do any good unless you are measuring the return beam and any changes to that return.

Sometimes this feature gets depicted but in a hilarious way where they place mirrors in front of the lasers to “trick” it into not seeing the movement happening. Well, Dick Tracy, putting those mirrors down just tripped the alarm in a real world situation.

Hollywood is always 100% accurate with how lasers work, in all cases.

If nothing else, this film seems to have the sense of creeping dread that every other movie lacked. Also, the new one has that same charm Robert Patrick did.

The CGI on the flesh regen doesn't look as good though.
I feel like the OG stuff looked more.. "organic" is an odd word to use, but that's what I feel like fits.

And the trailers are really going to not tell us who the girl is. Has that been said anywhere?

New Eastwood movie, Richard Jewell, about the man who was falsely accused of the '96 Olympic bombing:

Hella strong cast, looks good, and I remember of all places SNL being one of the first media places to quasi apologize and have Jewell "punch" Norm on Weekend Update.

The Expanse Season 4 has been getting some wonderful trailers, the marketing under Amazon is a vast improvement over SyFy's. This is the best one so far IMO.

I need to go back to watch the first trailer to see how well they hid things, because yeah.. that came out of no where. I don't think it matches up to "Spies in Disguise" levels of tonal whiplash, but damn.

It makes for a great reveal. The first trailer was "here's the modern fantasy world, here's two brothers going on an epic quest." Which is true! They just neglected to mention the
Pixar version of Weekend at Bernie's

detail. I mean, I'm a Pixar fan, but I can't remember the last time I was THIS excited for an upcoming Pixar movie.

Real Mummy/POTC vibes which is great.

I like Emily Blunt, so I'm on board for that alone. The Rock as a brendan fraser from the mommy style character can be amusing.

I think, for me, The Rock has reached peak saturation. His presence in a film is now a red flag.

Also when I saw the kind of generic, CGI design of everything, I was waiting for it to be shown as a Disney film and behold.

Yeah I wondered if this movie started it's life as a Mummy reboot

I saw on that ivory face the expression of sombre pride, of ruthless power, of craven terror - of an intense and hopeless despair. Did he live his life again in every detail of desire, temptation, and surrender during that supreme moment of complete knowledge? He cried in a whisper at some image, at some vision - he cried out twice, a cry that was no more than a breath - "can you smell what the Rock is cooking? Can you smell what the Rock is cooking!?"

Counterpoint: the Jumanji reboot was way, WAY better than it had any right to be.

I still laugh at the "and now the back side of water, don't try this at home kids, you'll get your head stuck in the sink" so i fuckin grinned at the line in the trailer

It is very "Disney CGI" looking, which is a look I'm really tiring of. I think that's the only thing that's turning me off of the movie, though. It looks fun.

Jungle Cruise looks fine, if it can pull a Jumaji or Mummy that's great, but I just don't see that happening when it comes to modern Disney. That looks like a perfectly cromulent airplane movie.

Also hell I was wondering if the Rock took the year off filming and completely forgot Hobbs and Shaw existed and I fucking saw the movie opening weekend.

I think my issue in this with the Rock is that when I imagine some grungy river boat captain a long way from his home, I imagine a Walton Goggins. Someone wirey who looks like they talk their way out of their problems versus just putting them in a headlock. The Rock is just too modern day muscular for me to completely buy it. Doesn't mean I won't be on board when this comes out, but I'll wait for reviews.
