I am kinda surprised that they couldn't make anything funny out of Bojack when they made Android 13 work.

To be fair, most of what I remember about that movie was the erased from time joke following "WEAKNESS: IDENTIFIED!"

Well it’s a pretty good nutshot joke.

    Maybe the best.

oh the stuff the manga is doing with Buu is so good

For the first time in Super (and I think since he went good in general), he’s actually plot-relevant and an active character participating and it rules, he has such a weird and fun powerset now

    Toonami has finished with Super.

We really need a new season or movie announcement

I dunno, that fake-out gave us Frieza having to work with the good guys, probably the highlight of the tournament

The 10-man cap was also arbitrary though, they could have given us an 11-man cap and had both Freiza and Buu. Or 12-man and throw in Future Trunks or something.

10 is a nice round number and lets you easily exclude yamcha

B: blown up by a cabbage monster

I like the idea of Krillin and Piccolo being on the team, even though they don't really contribute much.

Roshi gets that one cool and interesting scene, in the manga at least, which is more than you can say for a lot of the participants.

Tien is cool but he'd be my first choice to drop.

  • EnlongEnlong Registered User regular
    Cut Roshi, easily.

As a bonus, by cutting Roshi we also don’t have his recruitment episode or his “training” with Puar.

If you want your legacy characters to participate in later shonen battles, that's fine. Say their training is keeping them somewhere in the neighborhood of relevancy. What you should NOT do is explicitly call them out as being too weak to even CONSIDER helping (as they very explicitly did with Roshi right when Raditz shows up) and then later when every enemy is EXPONENTIALLY stronger than back then, be like "actually, he's useful somehow!" Because that's just stupid to the level where I can't really handle it.

I consider Super to have soft rebooted how power is handled in the DB universe and I’m happy to just roll with it. The ever increasing power levels was a bad idea.

Anyway I think every single character could theoretically have had value in the tournament but they just don’t manage to do any real character work during the ToP.

This soft reboot would make more sense if they didn't spotlight Gohan having lost a ton of ground by not training enough. So the idea that Roshi would have been viable what with... never training or doing anything physical at all since training Goku and Krillin as kids doesn't work at all even just within Super!

I still would like to see Tien get UI or at least close. Of "everyone else", he seems the most likely. Other than Krillin maybe.

Prior to Super having Goku take it up again, I thought Tien would have been a good candidate for learning Kaioken and having that be his thing. He did train with King Kai longer than all the others.

I reaaaaally hope Goku doesn't learn whatever new Yardrat stuff Vegeta is training for right now, it would be extremely cool to have their styles finally diverge rather than just "Goku gets a new thing and Vegeta plays catchup"

  • Moth 13Moth 13 Registered User regular
Yeah I think Vegeta is really overdue for something that's unique to him since Goku has had Instant Transmission for forever.

  • Mr. GMr. G Registered User regular
it seems like whatever Vegeta's gonna learn is gonna involve a lot of trickery and will actually make him more like...Krillin?

which doesn't seem his style at all but I'm curious to see that needle get threaded
