I'm willing to entertain that I'm just too old for the Overwatch fiction to be For Me but it's just so damn derivative and toothless.
In the first year I might have argued with you
But they've shown that they're more or less unwilling to do anything too exciting with it
For me the thing that broke me was when I read about the Australian characters and realized they just made Australia some Mad Max shit.
Blizzard has never had an original thought in the history of its company
And like, listen, I really do understand that being original in fiction is difficult
But THINK about that statement
Blizzard has been around for 25 years and every game they've ever made, every piece of fiction they've ever produced, is a near direct ripoff of something else
How do you stay that consistent? Its kind of incredible
Anywho, apparently Overwatch will retain hero and map parity between 1 and 2, and all if your 1 cosmetics transfer over. That's genuinely better than I thought it was going to be.
But Overwatch 2 genuinely doesn't read to my as a whole new $60 game, as much as it feels like an expansion
Like this feels like if The Taken King had been Destiny 2
I don't think they have said it is a 60 dollar game?
It totally could be
But also adding a whole campaign mode and actually fleshed out PvE missions and progression alone is a pretty huge change compared to what has happened with OW1? Like on its own that is a LOT of new content considering OW1 has like 4 seasonal PvE events and they are each 1 level.

People cheering for WoW Classic just shattered my brain
Who the fuck are these people
A good friend of mine has been only playing old WoW since Classic launched. He seems to be enjoying himself a lot, including all the idiosyncrasies and the like of old Wow.

i could see myself living through hillsbrad hell over again
Man the biggest bummer about Diablo 4 to me (besides being made by Blizzard who seem real shitty now) is their commitment to the whiny folks who complained about Diablo 3 NOT BEING DARK
Like c’mon, I actually enjoyed seeing color in that game
Yeah like, it's definitely playing on nostalgia, but I also think its probably people just enjoying an old game that they loved and want to play again. No different than putting in an old game that you love that has bad mechanics or the like that you forgive because it's a game you love.

Also playing through vanilla WoW during the period where people were still steadily flowing into every zone, rather than 90% of players being in endgame is a legitimately unique experience.

It is different than that because it does not cost me 15 dollars to play sonic 3
counter counter point: it will cost you significantly more to play sonic 3 with me, your friend, then it will cost you to play world of warcraft classic with me

I don't think that's really a fair comparison
Even when it was new, WoW Classic had that same fee. It has always been a service game with monthly charges, unlike Sonic 3 or whatever.
And the 15 dollar fee is also the current WoW subscription so it ain't like folks are stuck jusy playing WoW Classic, they can play modern WoW too if they want.
To be clear, I have ZERO interest in WoW Classic but I think what folks here have said is reasonable about why people would play it

Look.
Modern WoW is real bad right now.
EDIT: Oh, I misinterpreted what you were saying.
But yeah, the people I know playing Classic are not hopping onto modern wow because for all it's faults, classic wow feels less like a job than modern wow.

After watching that thing I'm pretty sure I hate Overwatch now

That is an A+ tweet.

You know I never did beat the first two

I think Overwatch was only a $40 game to begin with.
Honestly, if Blizzard and Activision weren't on my shit list, I'd probably pick Overwatch 2 up after entirely skipping the first game.
But yeah they would then have to contend with the fact that the first one was a discount title
$60 on consoles because it only retailed with the "legendary edition" iirc.
glad they finally did it. proud of those kids
Well yeah, but that's not how Bobby Kotick rolls
