I'll still walk around Philly and, if someone catches me looking at my phone in just a certain way, particularly on a Pokemon Go Community Day, theyll ask me "Catch anything good?"
And that's a really cool moment to have, even years after it was "A Thing?"
I, a Gamer, played Pokémon Go for like a week and then set it aside because it failed to keep my attention and I am nothing short of Outraged that other people kept playing it longer than that.
Uriel really hates games that have extremely high skill requirements
I dont think mobs are the worst thing ever, but I do sort of think that the move towards more and more multiplayer experiences is leaving behind some players who arent interested in competition or honing a skill to a fine point

I think the distinction with mobas in particular is so much of the skill barrier seems artificial, for the sake of continued player engagement instead of making the game actually more compelling.
Like I enjoy some fighting games! Especially now that some of them make some effort to onboard new players on ways older ones never did. Playing a fighting game feels more rewarding because climbing the hill of learning the game doesn't seem motivated to sell you anything like new heroes in league, or to get you engaged with the tournament/ladder scene even if you aren't feeling it, or with the cottage industries that thrive off of the newer or less good players that buy into that toxic "gotta get good so I don't feed and get abused" atmosphere... either hosting guides or selling coaching sessions.
Here's a thought. Do we get the weird swing of Detective Pikachu being the first live action Pokemon movie without Pokemon Go being a phenomenon?
Something just utterly solidifying the knowledge that the culture at large has a pretty decent working knowledge of the Pokemon world?
Absolutely not
The announcement that they were developing a Pokemon movie at all came out of Pokemon Go fever, I think less than a month into the craze
It's absolutely the genesis of the Pikachu movie
It also connected well with people playing the game with their kids, in an easily accessible bonding experience. Even if things like trading and friends lists didn't exist in the beginning.
I remember reading something from Thom Yorke about how one of their songs is about staring the devil in the fucking eyes, man and even as an edgelord teen I thought that was the corniest ass bullshit ever

I didn't know Thom Yorke wrote the Devil Went Down to Georgia!
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
