...I feel like there was a meme going around last year where you were supposed to pick your favorite movie for each year you were alive, and mine was almost too embarrassing to post
There was.
It really brought into focus how many movies I actually see in a given year, and that number is pretty dang low.

The Mandela Effect is a really great demonstration of the fact that human memory is a) bad and b) based mostly on emotional response, senses, and feelings, not factual recall, despite the fact that humans want to think we're good at remembering things as they actually happened.
I can't reliably remember if I ate breakfast, there's no way I can trust my recollection of anything more than 5 minutes in the past. And even then it'll only stick if it was noteworthy.
I don't understand how Mandela Effect caught on as a name, when the majority of people who make and watch Youtube videos literally cannot experience the Mandela effect because they're too young.

My own experience of that is remembering when Walkers crisps swapped the colours for their Salt and Vinegar and Cheese and Onion flavours when I was a kid. Which apparently never happened. I've blown so many people's minds when I've told them this. I don't know why so many UK 90s kids share this hallucination.
I think the young age is key to it. Most of the Mandela Effect stuff is from childhood. The bears, Sinbad, and I'd guess that Mandela is probably the same. If they weren't too young to understand then there'd be less chance of them misunderstanding.

Every moment wears upon your connection to the past like water on stone personally I have no connection to my past self after a period of five years and I will stand by that in court I am simply not responsible for what that person did that isnt me

This isn't anything to do with the Mandela affect but the Walkers Crisps thing reminded me that the UK uses dark green to code for salt and vinegar flavour and Australia uses dark green for chicken flavour and there were several occasions when I lived in the UK where a careless grab on my part led to great sorrow later on.
mm, that 80s CGI. Flat or shaded untextured polygons, and they ran out of 'em halfway through building the light cycles (the front half; that's why the back is so simple).
Couple of years after that, we got Gunstars and the Ko-Dan armada.
A decade later(ish), and the new cutting edge was liquid-chrome mannequins morphing into Robert Patrick.
And now, here we are.

also I had to look up Ryan Hansen, which resulted in "Oh, THAT guy. Huh"

I maintain that one of the things that made Party Down so good was that it had Ryan Hansen essentially playing Dick Casablancas again, but without any of the shitty elements of his character that made liking him feel not great

I'd almost assuredly change some of those now, just based on having seen more movies
But real quick, I think my 2018 and 2019 would be Hereditary and Us

because people can't handle the notion that they might have misinterpreted something when it happened and that affects how they remember it
the other day I had an epiphany
I think the reason people think Sinbad was in a genie movie is because in the 90's he dressed like a genie
