What I like about the show so far is that its showing a glimpse of the seedier side of the Star Wars universe. That aspect is something I really appreciated about Solo. I'm kinda sick and tired of Epic Space Wizard Stories, myself. Though I think, given the ending of this first ep, that they'll find a way to tie that all in regardless. But hopefully, it will still retain an emphasis on the grittier side of the Star Wars universe via the bounty hunting work he does.
So what's the best odds on how many episodes they can go without someone activating a lightsaber? I actually didn't think Solo was that bad....till the very end. So close to having a movie without lightsabers or force powers.
It's hard to say really. I'd imagine a while considering cannonically Luke and Luuke are the only jedi in the galaxy during this time frame.
But lightsabers are star wars and god damn are execs terrified if they aren't in things.
Ezra and Ahsoka might not be Jedi, but they are out and about in the galaxy during this period. Given Dave Filoni's heavy involvement in the series, I would not rule out an appearance by either.
Black lives matter.

Agree, but it might be a stretch to have their story pick up in live action.
Also, where is the Rebels epilogue set in relation to this show?

I don't think they say. But the X-Wings escorting Ahsoka's ship are the Rebellion-era design.
When I was driving once I saw this painted on a bridge:
"I don't want the world, I just want your half"
I do remember reading somewhere that Dave Filoni was quoted talking about how one of his characters from Clone Wars will make a live action appearance in the show so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing that
I'd rather it be Ahsoka. Especially since the VA for that character could pull it off in live action
Ditto for Sabine, IMO.
EDIT: although, for her they could just stick an anonymous woman into some amazingly painted armor, keep the helmet on, and have the VA dub the dialogue.
The droid being a bit prissy and wanting to talk about getting all of the reputation from the heist mid-gunfight was great, as was the continued insistence at activating the suicide protocol as well.
Honestly, it was one of the few things that irked me about the episode, mainly because it makes zero sense to me. Sure, be rigged to go boom for the reason specified. But having it be manually activated, and on a timer at that, and not be dead-man-switch wired into activating when the droid is made non-functional, just made it seem like an incredibly stupid design to me.
Having Mandy use the explosive, either to defeat the mob, or to open the door, thus neutering the droid when he executed it, would have just made more sense.
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

32 minutes? Ack.
"He's sulking in his tent like Achilles! It's the Iliad?...from Homer?! READ A BOOK!!" -Handy
Definitely had the different director whiplash this time. I appreciate different directors over time, but between the two episodes here, the different approach is so stark that I’m a little taken aback.
Still an interesting episode though.
Episode 2:
Fucking Jawas man. Not just stealing stuff, that’s expected. Just eating that egg like it’s a Cadbury. Sheesh.
Episode 2 was very Lone Wolf and Cub in its elements, and I'm weirdly okay with that.
The first episode shows pretty strongly he was a foundling and was glad of doing something that would help other foundlings. A little foundling would have a big pull on somebody like that even if they are very hardened otherwise.

I really hope there's Mando code for this situation.
"Why did you bail on this extremely profitable bounty that would've netted us more beskar than we've seen in years?"
"Fuck the client. The bounty is a foundling. I'm adopting it."
"Oh, definitely fuck the client. And congratulations! It's adorable. Whatever it is."
Also, "I'm a Mandolarian, weapons are part of my religion" may be the best quote I've heard out of a Star Wars property in years. I dunno what's better: that he might be saying it as a joke, that he might be dead serious about it, or both.
Also also, holy shit, they actually let these scenes breath. Almost the entire first half of this episode has no dialogue and it's great. Imagine that, writing that isn't just seeing how many quips you can throw at the viewer in five minutes.

Wait what is Luuke still canon?
Nah I just love that one, I'm sure he's sadly gone :bigfrown:

But Bigger Luke is canon, since he was in the OT!

Considering he appears in the Disney theme park, that is a far safer bet than the two I mentioned.

I like it, but it's definitely a weird show.
They definitely aren't writing for some broadcast target.
Time to check out until I get to watch it.
Still an interesting episode though.

Penny Arcade Rockstar Social Club / This is why I despise cyclists
Weird Disney+ though. What's with the dark borders on the screen? They seem to show up and go away at random.

Completely blown away. The music is the best part. Cant wait for the rest.
Nick nolte as a grumpy ugnaught is hilariously good casting.
Well, he is voice by Nick Nolte. It would be a shame to waste him.
