There's a recurring pose I've seen in a few things lately, and I don't know what it's a reference to.
It's two or more characters lined up and all synchronized in the same pose. They're facing to the left of the screen and they each have their left hand on their hip while their right hand is drinking from a small bottle.
Kazuma and Aqua do the pose during a montage at the end of the first episode of Konosuba, and I'm pretty sure I remember Bell and Hestia doing it at some point in IIWTPUGIAD, and I know I've seen in it some manga as well.
It is proper anime etiquette to put your left hand on your hip and chug a bottle of milk after a dip in a public bath or hot spring.

Oh, that’s milk?
I always assumed it was shots.
Because Aqua was involved.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Like, Isekais generally work because it is absolutely the bare minimum amount of attention you need to pay to something in order to have an excuse to exposit. "Oh, why are these people talking about X system and how to we put it in simple terms" "Oh just drop a dude who has zero context except the modern world in there, yup, works out great."
And then a lot just cheat by going "Fuck it, literal JRPG with stats and MP and XP and bullshit"
And it is the intersection of those points where you end up with the majority being straight up power fantasies.
S'why I like the deconstructions. I still find Ainz's consternation at the bullshit he deals with in the first conflict of season one to be hilarious.
Yeah, one can understand the basic idea of the isekai. It's a good way to introduce the audience to a weird world. Instead of having to have awkward exposition, the readers can learn about the weird shit at the same time the main character does, because he's a normal dude and he has no idea what is going on. It can let a writer minimize the "As you know..." weird dialogue, because, well, instead of characters telling each other shit they should already know, they can explain it to someone who has a good reason to have no goddamn idea.
...but then instead of taking advantage of this to have strange worlds, they all just do Dragon Quest.

the problem is everyone looks at isekai and is like "that's easy, i can write one" and then we get 10 million bad isekais because they all lazily rely on the isekai framework for narrative/mechanical structure without striving for more and it's fucking fatiguing as hell
like yeah you could take the time to write an interesting deconstruction of an isekai but if you can do that you could probably just write a decent fantasy/sci-fi/etc. that doesn't have the baggage

There's also the basic portal fantasy idea of "this could happen to you, dear reader", where your stereotypically average Japanese schoolboy suddenly finds themselves in a world similar to the media they enjoy and more often than not get to live out their power fantasy. It's every 90s schoolkid waiting for their Hogwarts letter.
Going to Dragon Quest is probably just because it's an easy formula, to be honest. It's generic in that Tolkien way - if you've got a generic-looking Japanese fantasy setting, it's a 50-50 chance that it's basically just Dragon Quest with the serial number filed off. This goes even for non-isekai. (The other 50 is Wizardry clones. Looking at you, Dungeon Meshi.)
so i watched/read all of quintessential quintuplets and i’ve come to the decision that ichika is the worst sister
Who are you rooting for?
I’m rooting for Yotsuba but I doubt it’ll be her.
in order of how ok id be if fuutaro ends up with them
miku
yotsuba
nino
itsuki
the girls butler
the girls dad
childhood friend girl
untimely death
ichika
Miku is a very very close second for me but Yotsuba was the one he met as a kid and has been sacrificing her own desires for everyone else and dammit I just want her to be happy.
I do hope they start entering the endgame soon because it feels like it’s about time.
It’s totally gonna be itsuki though, the boring choice.
One of the three series I've been plotting recently got its start because I wanted to try my hand at isekai with a twist (the MC is from a different magical world, not 'the real world').
But the more I work on it and refine my outline, the less isekai it feels.
I had a similar problem where I tried to do a dumb harem thing and it just turned into more realistic polyamory.
My brain can passively accept dumb/problematic/cliche tropes as a consumer, even enjoy them more than 'good' stuff a lot of the time, but it won't accept being responsible for them, I guess.
I wish there was a harem series that seriously considered realistic polyamory and had female characters that weren't just accessories for a man, but were fully fleshed out characters in their own right. Maybe the author might've even heard of the modern feminist movement.
I would read the hell out of that, actually. It could still be a silly battle series or isekai or what not, just change that aspect of it.
That’s basically tenchi muyo
Also sekirei. But that ones an ecchi so google with caution

In December, Ninja will move into the realm of fiction with a graphic novel entitled Ninja: The Most Dangerous Game, co-written by Justin Jordan and illustrated by Felipe Magaña. It promises a very different sort of experience that begins when Ninja receives a mysterious email inviting him to "an impossibly realistic, challenging, and addictive game."
"As the best player in the world, Ninja's unable to resist a challenge and soon discovers that there's more to this game than meets the eye. Teleported into the battle royale's universe, a digitized Ninja must start from scratch, finding a way to win the game—and save the world.

This is correct! Also most recent chapter annoyed me
But nothing with Itsuki has been romantic thus far - they have a very familial relationship.
Who are you rooting for?
Go for the funniest option.

AniList
nino used to be ichika tier but she’s good, i warmed up to her
This is one of the series where it can be fun to go back and read the comments as chapters were released.
Everyone loathed her until that chapter. And then after that chapter it was like a complete 180.
I do hope they start entering the endgame soon because it feels like it’s about time.

Netflix will release you in three parts over the next 8 months.
And confirmed
that's not where a mouth should be
I can think of multiple anime people who have mouths there. Must be normal.
fuck you I was drinking something when I read this and I did an actual spit take
I'm going to blame Vampire Hunter D for launching the mouth-hand fetish. Whether that's accurate or not.
You know I do damnit that why I watch anime
