Managed to pull IWS out of the Singularity box this morning, pretty excited about that.

I've yet to see any units out of boxes. Granted, IWS and SAT8 are the only two from there that I don't have. Ballista doesn't count since I'll get that after I open enough boxes. Really wish we had gotten more than just two hundred free crates in the mail, though I suppose with nearly three weeks to go, they might give us more free ones.

On the upside, got OTs today, so I'm only missing 2 of the 5* ARs now. With OTs, MP7, Thunder and 5-7 out of the way, along with all the 3* drops. I just need to get the last of the drops that aren't as useful. Currently, working on getting UMP40, maybe if I get that one, UMP45 will finally show up; especially, since I have the rest of 404. Also need to finish up the event. A little annoyed that we have a ton of SF controlled armor units that don't count towards the weekly quests. If it was KCCO, I could understand because the text does say SF armor and not just armor.

Edit: Anyone know what level I'd need on a parachute fairy in order to farm DSR? I've started leveling the skills on mine and I'm hoping I can use that for when I get around to farming DSR and save myself time and resources on that farm.

Just grabbed OTs after 66 map clears, so at least 264 attempts (the first clear I think I just about full cleared the map). Now to find out where to farm 5-7, and see if there is anyone else I really want to try for...

I want to take a moment to talk about gunbaots since it has become apparent that they are more important for ranking than expected. First I want to say that I'm a bit upset by the turn of events since it kind of made a liar out of me. For the past few months I have been advising against investing in machineguns since ARSMG and RF/HG teams are more economical teams to get online and are less dependent on gear like a maxed out 5* ammo box to reach their potential. I didn't see anything that a machinegun team could do that couldn't be done more efficiently and economically by an AR/SMG or RF/HG team. At the time it looked like their only significant contribution in the near future would be cheesing fights against Typhoon squads, which would be a relatively minor way to boost your score in Singularity ranking. However since we have a different client than the older servers did during their Singularity ranking runs, it looks like the enemy AI is acting a bit differently and it's resulting in more KCCO armored units entering the field.

I suspect that the ranking changes won't affect the middle tiers of the ranking boards since this has taken everyone by surprise and I'd wager that the majority of the playerbase isn't in a position to quickly adapt to it. So if you're aiming for 50% for Kar's scope, you're at least on equally unsteady footing as most of your peers.

Ok, so let's say that you think that you might be able to scrape a gunboat team together to help better your ability to deal with the tank squads. Here's how they work. The Typhoon squad consists of three typhoons and a group of armored escort units. The typhoons take turns firing a big laser similar to Dreamer's attack that will devastate an entire row. It's worth mentioning that Typhoons have a minimum range where they'll cease firing once you get too close. A gunboat team consists of two parts. The bulk of the gunboat team's purpose is to obliterate the escorts before the typhoons start attacking. Once the escorts are dead, this DPS component of the gunboat team will withdraw from the field to avoid damage. While they're retreating, your finisher will be dancing around the battlefield dodging lasers and steadily closing the gap. Once she's close enough to the typhoons, then victory will inevitably be yours. Ideally your finisher should either have some kind of nuking ability or the ability to carry AP ammo so that your victory will be achieved in a timely manner. Here's a video demonstrating a gunboat team in action.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfXCSWOrEkc

The sterotypical gunboat team is four machineguns and handgun suitable to finishing the Typhoons such as Contender, Thunder, or CZ75. Since we don't really have time for skills to come into play, the big 4 machineguns are the most useful at fulfilling this roll.

However that's not the only way to build out a gunboat team. I've seen people field more unorthodox teams that make use of CMS or 6P62 as their finishers due to their ability to equip AP ammo. I've even seen someone use an ordinary rifle like Kar98k as their finisher. Obviously the movement speed of these finishers are slower than HG's, so the timing required for dodging the lasers is more demanding. Now I'm questioning if QJY-88 can act as a finisher since she's that MG who gets the movespeed boosts. Still, the point is that it doesn't matter what your finisher is so long as it can dodge the lasers and whittle the Typhoons down sometime before the next ice age.

To test to see if youre team is up to the job, throw them in a damage calculator like this one:
    http://brainlets.moe/gf/sim/

In battle settings, set it to a night battle bossfight against a single enemy who has 109 armor and zero evasion. Be mindful of your doll's levels and affection levels in addition to the rarity, skill level, and talent of your fairy. The calculator assumes that the talent will proc, so if you want to assume that you won't get the proc then just set the talent to "golden" since golden talent does nothing. Once you've input all of your details, then look at the damage graph. The goal that you're shooting for is to inflict ~75k damage within six seconds.

    edit:
One more thing. Fully calibrated level 4 gold AP ammo and level 10 green AP ammo are capable of fully negating the armor fielded by the Typhoon's escorts. Within the context of defeating the Typhoon squads, extra investment into additional AP doesn't get you any benefit.

I've also seen people use Shrimp as their finisher. Her damage just gets that high that it can brute force through armor, and her poor accuracy is a non-issue against enemies with zero evasion.

If people are short on a machinegun, I'm hearing that LWW is a good low budget option. I plan on trying to get her online ASAP for ranking stuff. I figure now that I have lvl 9 gate on the way and three pets, I can start showing batteries into getting reports because I need a ton of those to get MP7 and LWW up to 90 ASAP. LWW also benefits from the fact that it's fairy easy to farm up copies of her for linking. Plus, if anyone did the new career quests and didn't nuke the LWW copy they were given, she should be decently leveled already and partially linked.

Anyways for farming stuff. I decided to check the map the that is recommended to get DSR and decided to sacrifice 5 fairy commands to see if my strategy for efficiently farming her was viable, given that I was having zero luck using google to verify how one goes about farming her with the paradrop fairy. I haven't done the math, but it might be possible to farm the boss on that map with the unit that drops in with the paradrop, but seems unneeded since the AI is quite willing to give you all the turns you need her after jacking the occupied helipad above her. For this strategy, you'll want you boss destroying echelon (I don't think it needs to be a full squad with everything fully linked. I need to check the leveling videos, but pretty sure 2 ARs and a handgun will do the job) and 2 dummy echelons (if you have more manpower than you know what to do with like some of us, your dummy echelons just need to be out of supplies, why waste rations if you don't have to). You need one dummy echelon to be on the base, the second echelon has parachute fairy with SL4 (might be able to get away with lower, but I can confirm that SL4 will do the job). Parachute echelon will be deployed on the helipad furthest from the command center. Start battle, drop parachute echelon on helipad above boss and then end turn. The friendly NPC will then kill the only enemy unit that could cause issues. On turn 2, move the parachute echelon out of the way and spawn your boss killing team on your newly acquired helipad and then go wreck the bosses face. I do believe this will give you two bites at the apply if you S rank the fight, since S ranking the map just requires a boss kill before turn 5 or 6. I'd also suggest that if you want to farm DSR and have the stuff for this strategy, she probably should be something you do at least 4 times a day before other farms, since that will get you 8 shots at her and all of your crates for the day. If you're heavily farming stuff that's on maps that make use of retreat options, might be worth killing her 9 times at the start of the day. If you have max fairy command regen, this will still leave you with a fairy command increase of 15 each day, gets you 18 attempts at a DSR drop and completes all map victory daily quests (probably gets you close on finishing all repair dailies). All that said, if you don't need DSR, this still might be a slightly quickly crate farm that promotions but it'll cost you more; however, could be handy if you're trying to fill out the boss hunter weekly and don't mind using fairy commands.

Also something seems buggy with the code. I thought the game wasn't counting the armors in singularity for the weekly stuff and after I test this stuff out and went to main menu. I saw I had finished quests and opened up the quest tab to see that I had my two armor kill weeklies, so yay for the resource boost!

Edit: Also the map recommended for DSR farming is Compression IV in chapter 1.

The hard thing for me trying to pull together so many gunboat teams is simply a lack of high level fairies. I don't have an assortment of 4-5* fairies to really push everything over the top. If I spread my best dolls out to try to put together four full gunboat teams, then my teams mostly fall right on the borderline. I'll need to run the numbers again tomorrow to see if the damage boost from upgrading some of them from 90 to 100 helps secure the wins, otherwise I'll be stuck resetting fights until the fairy talents kick in to push things over the top. I may end up doing my first run with just three gunboats and then reassess if I want more for future runs.

    Edit:
Yeah, I'll start with 3. I don't have the cores right now to spin up another pkp.

I have to wonder how much of the change in Singularity meta comes down to the client change and how much of that was an intentional thing on Mica's part. If it's the latter, I really have mixed feeling on the whole thing. I suspect that some of it was probably aimed at trying to make things somewhat more fair in the part of the ranking where a month+ of prep time would make a huge difference. On the other hand, the execution was terrible because if they were going to do this, they really should have just told people "hey, we aren't happy with new servers using the old servers as beta testers and get a month+ time to prepare for the event, knowing exactly what's needed. We have plans to change things up, so be aware that when the event drops X meta on old servers isn't going to work."

Honestly, what probably is going to make this feel really awful for people that can't change on the dime. Is that the meta pushed tons of night AR teams. Last I checked, the meta moved more towards HGRF echelons and the next event Continuum Turbulence only let's you field four echelons. Part of me wonders if going forward they'll move away from fielding 10 echelons and limit it to 4-6, which does make things more accessible and makes duping far, far less important; especially, if half the echelons can't be mirror copies or if we get more t-dolls, where it's impossible to get dupes, that are super good like the AR team. Anyways, outside of expeditions, logistics and the theatre mode we'll get in the future (really hoping they fix a ton of the complaints that the old servers had with it, namely that it ended up being a really crappy indirect PvP combat sim, that claimed it was cooperative.

Assuming we don't get a surprise change, HGRF echelons raised beyond what is needed for night missions are probably going to be of use in CT. Though that's assuming someone didn't go overboard and raise more than what CT is going to call for.

  • General_ArmchairGeneral_Armchair Registered User regular
I'm pretty sure that it's entirely accidental, but they can't do anything to "fix" it without wiping the leaderboard progress. That's what happened with deep dive.

We will have the benefit of having several months worth of expedition loot to help setup teams for CT. It's best to assume that ranking preparation guides are rough estimates. It may pay off to try to keep your resources liquid until the event has started. Maybe level dolls to 90 but don't pull the trigger on that x5 link until you finalize your plans. Give the event a week or so to expose pitfalls.

I think that the lion's share of points in singularity ranking will be acquired with the arsmg teams as we expected. It's just that two gunboat teams aren't sufficient if you wanted to kill all of the typhoons. This just stings a bit more to adapt to since it's not the same as your average run of the mill team. Normally if the team is a bit lackluster, then the fight might last a few seconds longer. Maybe you'll need to repair your main tank a bit more frequently. The gunboat team has hard requirements where if you fail to meet them, then you will lose the match.

It's also important to remember that this gunboat issue is mostly a "first world problem." I'm just harping on it since it's the issue at the forefront of my mind and I'm annoyed that I wouldn't have advised against investing in mgs if I knew that they'd have more influence here. Even still, your mgs likely won't cut it unless you have those gold ammo boxes ready. I can not stress enough how instrumental those ammo boxes are. Most players won't defeat the typhoons on their own and will wipe them off the map with the radar tile gimmick.

I'm not sure how many people here in this thread are really affected by it. Aside from myself, I know Orphane is in a position to deal with the prospect of setting up additional gunboats. I think there are a few other vets that don't post as much. If you can assemble a gunboat team, then that's one more advantage that you can have over your peers in the competition. If not, then I don't think that it's catastrophic for shooting for top 50%. I posted the details about gunboats to help people theory craft if one is within their reach or if they're better off not wasting resources on a team that will fall just short of doing its job.

Yeah, I mean, if I had had a little time/knowledge, I could probably afford to get one 4 MG team up, but there is no way I have enough cores for it right now. I certainly don't have enough ammo boxes.

Yeah, I figure I'll be in decent shape to seriously shoot for something above 50% in CT. We'll have the benefit of expeditions pumping in tons of resources. This will include cores, which as overpriced as they are, they still help (I might squeak by and get all my cores off the market this month if RNG lets me have 2-3 more wastelands). General parts and combat reports, both of which are huge since that means more stuff to level up equips and more reports to get dolls up to 90. The combat reports are rather large because I believe the math works out to being able to take 5 dolls from lvl 1 to 90. Dolls taken to 90 purely through combat reports are also something you can get away with no linking until you have to use them for combat. So combat reports can be a great tool to save cores. Also unlinked dolls can be linked up with copies if RNG allows for it (other caveat being that one needs to have the roster capacity to hold copies once one hits a point where they either need 2 or 3 copies.

On top of expeditions. I'm mostly done with upgrading facilities. Only one upgrade to completely check off the fairy room and it's not critical, but I'll probably snag the increase command capacity. So I can start dumping batteries into a mix of reports, upgrades for the data room & pets. Probably do more reports this week, since I have some stuff that's going to need to be power leveled. I'd prefer to stick the batteries into pets.

Also so glad I got a parachute fairy and was able to get it to SL4. It's nice that I can start my daily farm stuff off with 9 clears of Compression IV to get 18 rolls for DSR. It makes that farm so much cheaper because I can plop a dummy echelon on HQ, one on the helipad closest to the boss. Then start turn, burn 5 fairy commands to snag the helipad above the boss. End turn, move the dummy echelon with parachute fairy and then bring in a proper echelon to kill the boss. 2 turns, 5 commands, one fight and 2 rolls for the drop is so much cheaper than what people have to do without the fairy.

If you back out, you can repair your echelon and redeploy it to try again. I think I had to do that twice to beat the hidden boss in chapter 2. OFC it didn't matter because that map has another small puzzle you have to solve or you can't win.

Edit: Just to clarify, don't terminate the mission, just hit the "select operation" button in the upper left, which takes you back to the mission select screen, head over to the repair screen, do that, and then navigate back to the mission select and pick "resume mission".

It's taking me a bit longer than expected to get all of my echelons prepared for ranking. I'm short a few hundred cores to get the last of my teams fleshed out, and I'm struggling to find a place to squeeze in a construction fairy to tilt the scales of the boss fights further in my favor. I may end up not using the construction fairy or I may splurge on fairy crafting to try to upgrade one of my paradrop fairies enough for it to work as one of my gunboat's fairies.

I really need to catch up and finish the campaign so I can put Singularity into farm mode.

I managed to get AN-94 on my first attempt when the boost was active. Didn't see anything after that. Type 79 has been eluding me hardcore- I got her Nine Tailed Fox skin during halloween. :(

As far as expeditions go, I noticed there's little time left for the currently available items. Are those cores/reports going to refresh by then or get cycled out?

    OtakuD00D on
    makosig.jpg
  • MillMill Registered User regular
Everything on the item tab refreshes on the first of each month. The general recommendation is to try and clear that out before it does. At a minimum you want to get the reports and general parts cleared out. Then depending on whether you need batteries, you want to clear those out if you do, but you'll probably get those if you're clearing out anything else. Capsules are currently so-so, but once we get HoCs, you'll want those as well. Cores are nice, but given the price, it's really not worth prioritizing those ahead of the other items. The costs will stay the same.

So for the veterans, I need some advice. I'm currently farming drops. I'm still going for DSR, M1887, JS05 and 416's Speq. I'm currently actively farming JS05 and starting my day with 9 clears of Compression IV, to get 18 rolls for DSR. There are currently three options for farming M1887 that I'm aware of and I'm not thrilled with any of them. One is full clearing Stroke IV, which is expensive resource wise and I want to build back before shotgun rate up. Another is para drop to the boss on Stroke IV, which I'd rather not do since I'm using paradrops to farm DSR and it seems to take me 100+ attempts to get anything to drop. The third option is to run last resort II and kill hydras, but I'm not sure I can get a team for that easily. One team I see recommended is M4 Mod 3 with 5-7 and Mk23 and it's apparently doable with 2* fairies. I currently have all the units but I'd need to fully link Mk23 and would have to get 5-7 to 90 and fully linked and that one is at lvl 1. Anyone know if it's feasible to kill Hydras with a M4 Mod 3 setup that doesn't use 5-7, Mk23 or Grape? I have a 98 Welrod and a 95 Contender, so was wondering if those two with M4 Mod 3 would work. If I have to, I just throw as many batteries into reports as I can and get 5-7 up where I need her and just suck up having less cores for shotgun rate up.

Also crates decided to give me the finger. Finally, got t-dolls out of them, but outside of Ballista, the other two were K11 and RFB. I already have half of the units dropping from crates and I get the two I already have. ><

  • General_ArmchairGeneral_Armchair Registered User regular
    @Mill
you could try fielding a larger team that just stacks more tile buffs on M4 and then just manually retreat two units at the start so that M4 goes into siege mode. I guess just check whoever you have and see if any of them help reach the same buffs that you would have had with just 5-7 and mk23 buffing her with their tiles and skills.

It also occured to me I have no idea how you access the ranking map.

Once you complete the final mission in chapter 3, a new mission in chapter 3 titled "Hornet's Nest" opens up.

I haven't done much in the way of dedicated farming, but I got a couple of the 3* dolls just from doing the story. Probably going to try for HK's equipment first, just cause it seems the most useful in the future? Seems like the story characters all get buffed eventually.

The boxes have treated me relatively well, finally got my set of 4 banners around my 800th box, but in total, I've gotten 2 S.A.T.8's and a Ballista (the guaranteed one). I have recently acquired a K11 and an IWS from crafting, so they're not something I need from the boxes. Nothing looks particularly interesting from the doll drops, Thunder seems to have an interesting ability. MP7's ability to increase movement speed seems ... weird? Does it affect the whole group or just her?

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it. ~ Terry Pratchett

That's just part of mp7's effect. The evasion buff is the core bit. She's like Suomi in that she's geared for long fights like the Agent boss fight. Thunder is good since she can be used in gunboat teams.

The problem with special scopes is that most rankings maps are at night, so night vision ends up taking priority.

So mixed feelings on the new client. The navigation stuff and ease of going to places is really nice. Problem is the blank black screens are jarring, it seems a bit more laggy, the memory leak is noticeable on emulators and there are enough other minor bugs, that it adds up to a points where I wish it was possible to rollback to the old client until they clean this one up further. Putting aside stuff that needs polish, still not sure why the quick navigation bar doesn't include the repair hub.

Some further thoughts on expeditions, other than hoping I get the final 60 vials I need to clear out the black market. The feature puts pets in weird spot. As RNG as mid-mission rewards are, pets do seem like they really help increase the odds of getting them. This means that the first three pets acquired are probably the biggest boost to min/maxing since the increased income of batteries, various data types, cores, general parts, equips, calibration tickets and memory fragments is extremely useful. The drop off is massive because once you have pet three and can field it on expeditions, pet four doesn't increase the amount of mid-mission rewards. It's not a complete drop off, since that pet can help when it's advantaged, but it's not the boost you'd see from pets 1-3. I feel comfortable recommending that people focus on getting three pets shortly after getting the gateway console to lvl 8 and then get it to lvl 9 after the third pet before focusing on the fairy room. I say get the third pet before gateway lvl 9 because it can net you one more battery per day, where gateway console lvl 9 only does something for you once you can field that third pet.

My plans to start a ranking run have been postponed by my family having far more planned for Thanksgiving weekend than expected. Family stuff is far more important though, and I've spent the smaller windows of free time to farm mp7 and thunder. At least I'll get next month's batch of spare parts to upgrade a few more pieces of gear.

I'm chomping at the bit to start my ranking runs. I only hate how long that they take. If you spread it out between sittings, then it wrecks havoc on logistics and threatens daily rewards if it takes more than one evening of playtime.
