Putrid Blightkings in AoS are my favorite models, but waaaaaaaaaaaaay to expensive to dive into.

edit: Thanks for the tips on contrast everyone! I assumed the primer/base were specially formulated to work with the contrast paint you put over it? I wasn't worried about the undercoat's color.

I feel like I've finished the base for my brother's drone. Took 3 applications of the realistic water material to get it looking good but I feel like it could still be better.

All I did was the base. The drone was painted by my brother. I just wanted to test the realistic water stuff and he didn't mind me using his model.

Are there different nozzles and such for airbrushes that change how small or large the spray is? I've seen some videos now that do really tight lines with an airbrush but I don't think I'd be able to get a line that tight with mine.

If you mean the gold Ultramarines symbol on the right shoulder then it looks fine. Don't think it is too big at all.

I'd recommend potentially doing a pin wash depending on what you're looking for.

    https://youtu.be/qrsHo9UU_EM

Good video for how to do it. I use tamiya panel line accent for pin washing.

There are, but it's usually more about the airbrush itself than accessories you can buy for it. In my experience, most airbrushes that do exceptionally fine detail are purpose-built for it (like the Sotar 20/20), while ones that have conversion kits typically started as very general-purpose and can be made more miniature-friendly (the Patriot 105 does have conversion kits, but if you've got one in the last ... I dunno, 10 years probably? it already comes with the fine-detail needle and tip, so you can only make the spray bigger than what you've got). Air pressure is also something of a factor, but a much more minor one, and it only has a reasonably degree of application (higher pressure == less dispersion and slightly tighter spray pattern).

That base is really cool! Maybe a silly question, but, will the sides of the base be the green, or the black? In my head, they both look good, but, I don't know.

Well after moving a couple of years back I've finally figured out the best time and place to take pics of minis! So expect a bunch of image spam soon. I'm going to start off with a couple of my absolute favourite models that I've painted recently. 3 Different sculpts of Ser Gregor Clegane, the Mountain that Rides (or walks) for the Song of Ice and Fire minis game.

Consider not using white, but very very light gray, as the base coat. Then you can highlight in white and wash in dark gray. Disclaimer: I've only used this technique on smaller white things, like Ultramarines symbols on my dudes shoulders, never full vehicles.

It's probably easier to handle on smaller models. I did it for the cockpit of my Valkyrie with glazes for the light effect and washeson the opposing side of the model for the shadows.

I've dropped mine on the back of the needle, I take the back casing off so I can mess with the needle when I need to. The needle was fine but it decimated the little brass tip.

Luckily I had another needle from the cheepo airbrush that came with the compressor, but I don't think I can save the bend one. Most of it can be bend back but the front millimetre is bent into 170° hook.

This has been my most productive hobby year and I really need to take better pictures as I do it. I finally finished up about 2000 pts of Custodes, and painted up a Titanicus maniple.

Then in October I fought a beautifully painted Ultramarines Calgar army at a tournament and decided I wanted one for myself. My goal was to make something out of stuff I already have from the starter box, add in Calgar, and mix in some Horus Heresy era plans that never got off the ground. Only about half way there but it's become a joint 30k/40k project so...slow going.

    Q2FND4C.jpg
    rQyaG1I.jpg

When I grabbed the Calth box however many years ago the hope was to do Alpha Legion but I never loved the metallic scheme, and my 'alternate' attempts just sort of looked like off brand Ultramarines. So now all the unpainted stuff is becoming actual Ultras.

Fluorescent is UV light (or very intense, very blue light depending on the colour) being converted to another colour glow - spontaneously glowing in the dark is phosphorescence and I don’t know of any readily available acrylics that do that.

I kind of like the idea of Skaven that glow under black light.

Neon in paint typically* means “offensively bright” and sometimes that means they put UV reactive dyes in there to make stuff look even brighter under daylight but don’t expect it or plan around it without testing first.

Problem is "neon" and "fluorescent" are both colloquially used to mean "bright". So while I would expect something called "fluorescent" to be UV reactive, "neon" may or may not be, though it's more likely not. GSW's fluorescent paint specifically says it glows under UV light. And while I would expect Scale 75's "fx fluor" colors to do the same, I can't find a product description specifically saying so.

Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.

I could definitely test it since the leaves of this tree are primarily painted with the scaled 75 neon paints, I just don't have a UV light at all.
