Playing Cat T1 seems correct in some extremely narrow circumstances, mostly of the "I'm on the play and have a perfect curve of Cat into Paradise Druid into Oven + Crumbs with mana left over to start fishing for permanents" or "I'm against Selesnya/Simic adventures and maybe I'll get an extra damage in because they have zero removal in their deck."
Only works if the Oven is tapped, right? Otherwise they can just laugh and sac the cat in response?
Yes. In general, cat decks should never bring cats back without untapped ovens. There are exceptions, like "It's their end step, they're tapped out, and bringing the cat back now provides value in some fashion", but that's not common; cats are generally not going to attack into many decks, and if you're not attacking with the cat it's probably best to hold the sacrifice in case you draw a(nother) Mayhem Devil or Trail of Crumbs. Obv. if you have Trail of Crumbs out and mana to dump into it, cat away.
@SkutSkut you got a sideboard guide for that? Been wanting to play with embercleave but haven't tried it out yet.
Use the maindeck for most matchups, Domri's for Simic Flash mostly with the "Creatures can't be countered" and fight, Vivien for Fires decks tho that hasn't been working like I've wanted to.
Spyglass for cat ovens mostly. Cindervines for Simic Flash, Fires decks and cat ovens/adventure decks. Brontodon for the removing fires/ovens too.
Flamesweep for go wide decks, frenzy can also be used against the likes of fires and flash tho I'm kind of eh on it cause of all the high cost stuff.
What are you most likely to take out? Almost everything main deck seems real handy.
If they're creature heavy Rimrock Knights, and if Brontodons are going in Lovestruck Beasts if they're creature light Domris Ambush/Domri himself.

Basically, I like aggro. I'm playing Javier Dominguez's Gruul adventure deck currently because I missed playing Embercleave and there are still to many sacrifice decks to justify playing Rakdos.
It's kinda like the one SkutSkut plays, but tops off at Questing Beast and is 4x deck. I would say that putting shieldbreaker in your sideboard works to both kill oven and provide a body. I straight up swap Knight for 2x Shieldbreaker, 2x Spyglass against cat decks. It also can git Embercleave if you survived the first hit from it.
I'm actually loaded for Fires because I also play 4x Cindervines in the sideboard.
I'm sitting in the top 1000 again after dropping from around 800 to 98% after losing to a jank Black/White attrition deck (yeah, that's like losing something like 600 places from one loss).
Yeah I swapped out the Frenzies for Shield Breakers, with this current meta Cindervines may be main board material, an important thing to remember is it can also destroy embercleave and henge.

Cats shouldn’t even be on the field period if it’s game 2/3 versus a deck that has black.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Kaya, Orzhov Usurper makes for amusing situations against Cats. Cats in bin? Eat them. Cats on battlefield? Eat them. Oven on Battlefield? Oh hey I can eat that too.

i popped my ovencat deck since i had the rakdos quest.
Long story short, a match agaisnt a monoblack ovencat deck, I do pretty shitty the whole game and then at the end, i win with 2 Life and two damage to my face on the stack. Felt amazing.

the thing that tipped the scales in my favor is that i had Mayhem Devils.
So whenever they used their cat combo, i'd deal damage.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Jund cat is where it's at re: catdecks. Mayhem Devils are both an insane clock boost against controlling decks and a ton of board pressure against any other midrange decks, while Trail of Crumbs is such an absurd draw engine it's hard to give up (plus mana dorks and Vr4ska are nice). Even Korvold seems really good, although that may be a "well as a 1 of you never really lose with him stuck in your hand and he can draw your deck lategame" deal more than him actually being worth running.

Did some streamer post a reclamation deck? I just played four matches in a row against it and it is a card that feels super bad to play against.
I mean it's been a strong/popular deck for a while. But it isn't super top tier because of how much better other decks are and how much you can prep for enchantment hate.

well I mean odds are yeah, Mono Black posted something like three Temur Reclamation decks with different game plans this week. It's just a colour combo that gives you fun combos, tons of mana and card draw.

I spent some uncommons to make a Cavalcade deck and spent a few hours grinding from Gold 1 to my first Platinum 4.
Now we are all sons of bitches.

Replace the torch couriers with tin street dodgers, and remove some lands for some morelight up the stages.
Really, less than 20 lands? I thought I'd heard that 20 was the floor of what was considered reasonable. (I guess Light Up the Stage usually produces lands, but I can see scenarios where you get stuck on one or two lands and can't hit face to cast them.)
The thing with "I can't hit face so I can't cast Light Up The Stage for 1, I have to cast it for 3" is that if that's the case it doesn't matter if you'd have had one more land. You're already losing. Optimize the strengths, not the weaknesses.
Man. Everything feels super not fun right now. Cats, Fires, and Reclamation decks are all about as fun to play and to play against as something not fun at all, and they're 90% of what I'm against. The other 10% is Cavalcade of Calamity decks, and they're fine, if not exactly new and exciting.
This meta feels worse to me than the Oko meta.
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.
I'm still high on not having to play against Nexus or 5feri or Steel Leaf Champ or Ghalta or Approach or Settle or Chainwhirler or Push or Hazoret or...
I mean, you know... actually the list gets pretty long.

I'm playing Temur Adventures and oh my god does this deck do absurd things if it gets going. I played against it and immediately went and crafted it. It took a few games to get the play pattern down, but it's actually really fun.
Yeah I swapped out the Frenzies for Shield Breakers, with this current meta Cindervines may be main board material. I didn't break top 1200 but eh, always next time.

I was actually just having this thought. This is honestly so much less fun.
It's still like 90% the same decks but now that 90% is decks that take the slowest turns ever. And much less interactive.
And just in general I gotta say it really feels like there is way too much card draw available. Like if you don't play a deck with card draw it's just gonna get rolled because the meta decks all just keep cards flowing regardless of what color they are.
I'm really looking forward to whenever the next meta shakes out because this is the least fun I've had playing this game in a while. I feel like I have to jam cat ovens in stuff just to keep up with all the other cat ovens.

I finished inside the top 1000 again mostly on the back of Temur adventures. I added a few cards to help against Cat Oven and Fires as they are the tightest matchups.
Trail of crumbs is scarier than oven IMHO for the cat decks.

In the cast from yesterday, the Top Level podcast guys are pretty hot on this list;
I think it looks infinitely more fun than the simic flash, and the only thing i dont have for it is 1 brazen borrower and the fabled passages. I also really like being able to have burn and counterspells. The selesnya knights deck didnt do so hot at FNM. There was only 1 game i wasn't really in though. the great henge is actually insane once it's online.
No expansion/explosion or embercleave in that izzet deck seems wrong.
I have been playing a lot of Izzet Flash and Azorius Control as my preferred decks because I'm an awful person who delights in the misery of others. I wouldn't really classify it as a tempo deck. I usually try to play the long game, exhaust their threats and end the game on the back of a real good beater or two while they can do nothing to stop me.
Expansion/Explosion is an interesting thought for the deck maybe over Gadwick but Gadwick does a lot of work as a body, shutting down their threats, and drawing cards. Keeping Gadwick on the board usually means winning the game, but on the other hand I'm not sure how many times he's pulled me out of the fire which maybe the direct damage could do. It's an interesting thought. Expansion is also pretty effective as an extra counterspell.
I'm not sure how often Embercleave would be useful though. I'm trying to play stuff end of their turn while leaving counterspells open, Simic flash style, and I'm rarely attacking with more than 1 or 2 creatures, so it'd represent tapping out on my turn to play on, or having six mana open at the end of theirs.
