I think Vader is a stronger and more menacing character if you know he's Luke and Leia's dad, that he was a powerful Jedi who "fell" to "evil" and that he's now working for the "bad folx"
Every detail provided about him undermines his presence
Rewatching the prequels now I can see so much potential there that's basically just squandered by bad directing and writing.
Actors can only do so much with what they're given and when you have a movie make Samuel L. Jackson boring that's 100% the director and the writing.
A ton of the media that came out following the prequels was excellent and showed how good all those ideas could've been in the hands of a more skilled creator.

We actually knew a bit of Vader's backstory (like his battle with Obiwan that resulted him falling into lava) before the prequels.

I mean you have to look no further than the rots movie and the rots novelization. It is the exact same story, but Matthew Stover manages to wring out pathos and incredible mood with the same moments that fall flat under Lucas direction.
One thing I'm amazed we've never seen on screen: Ewan MacGregor's Obi-Wan on some kind of badass speeder bike
That dude is up there with goddamn Keanu Reeves, Norman Reedus, and Tom Cruise as far as the niche category of "celebrities who goddamn love motorcycles"
but naw Anakin got the cool speederbike montage in AotC instead

ian mcdiarmiud and ewan McGregor showed up to work in the prequels and polished that turd harder than anyone else, and it shows, but even they struggled with a lot of it
the greatest actor alive couldn't have saved some of those lines, like how Obi-Wan had to say "qui-gon" in that (completely unnecessary!) scene where they explained the origin of the force ghost power

There are stories about the OT saying the same thing about the writing. The big difference being that Lucas was willing to listen to his crew when they told him the lines were crap and they had better ones.
I'm pretty sure the "'I love you' 'I know'" exchange is the most well known, but it's not the only time where the actors rewrote a scene to make it work.

So.
It's treason then.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
my current pet peeve with the prequels is that they made Obi-Wan's Tatooine look the thing that every single jedi wore
setting aside the fact that this is a nonsense idea, it's also visually uninteresting, especially compared to Luke's asskicking outfit in RotJ
This 100%. Obi-Wan's Tatooine robes in ANH are practical. Yoda wears rags because he's a hermit. They should not have become the template for all Jedi clothes, past and future.
It's annoying that even Rey wears clothes that look similar to robes. Her Ach-To gear at the end of TFA/start of TLJ was a good look, I'm sad it didn't stick.

AND THROUGH THAT PORTAL YOU WILL FIND THE SHRINE OF THE SILVER YODA

It's like what every EU writer does, create the entire universe out of pieces of the original trilogy rather than imagine anything new, except it's Lucas doing it so it's really super weird.

No, it's mostly dumb and weird and unnecessary
Like 95% of the EU
It exists only to make money
It diminishes the original property
It's hacky fan fic with a budget

I get that you don't like it but what are you trying to express with this post
Like the tone suggests you are disagreeing but the content doesn't conflict with anything I said
The prequels clone wars etc handling of the Jedi is also not something I enjoy
I guess I like less than half of all Star Wars media
It's getting to the point where I enjoy less of it than I enjoy, when I look at how many seasons that clone wars cartoon got and the awful rebels cartoon had how many seasons? Fuck
I guess I like six movies and one show out of 10 movies and how many shows?
anakin in the prequel movies is largely a non-entity and anakin in the clone wars brings the character back to actually existing
the character work done on anakin is fucking substantial in that show, and I think like actually meaningful to describing his fall from grace, which I think IS a story worth telling
clone wars spoilers cause some people are enjoying star wars for the first time in here
it's such a small scene but the scene where Obi-Wan and Satine are both confronted with having to kill the bad guy on Mandalore and sacrifice their ideology for "the greater good" and they're both struggling and then a lightsaber just IGNITES THROUGH THE GUY and he drops and Anakin's like "what? he was gonna blow up the place" makes you chuckle for a second and then go like "oh wow this is one of the clearest visual manifestations of the beliefs that ultimately lead to Anakin falling"
there's SO MUCH GOOD SHIT with Anakin and Ahsoka too
the clone wars may not be your cup of tea but they are far from just like, cash grabs, a lot of interesting things are portrayed in them
Imagine the Jedi Temple not being on the "surface" of Coruscant but on the actual surface. So ancient that it is built on actual rock. And the Jedi live down among the slums of Coruscant.
I watched some episodes of each and found the art and premise of both shows thoroughly off putting
The clone wars cartoon continues the prequel movie trend of explaining Vader and turning the Jedi into this huge branch of the good guy military, they're like the Avengers or the Guardians of the Galaxy instead of a couple of weird hermits? No thanks
That plucky teen protagonist in rebels is buddies with badass space lizard pig Bossk? Fuck off, Disney
You don't need to persuade me to like something, I appreciate your time
I have opinions about Star Wars that run counter to 2/3 of Star Wars media and most of the fans
i'm not going to try and persuade you of anything lol I just like...don't know how to engage with the posts you are making and am trying to think of a way to do so
I don't think the clone wars cartoon is just a cash grab but it absolutely shows the jedi as basically a military wing
If that turns you off you're not gonna like it
(I also think it looks like hot trash but thats a personal opinion)
To be fair that is ultimately very definitively presented as a bad thing?
The have explictly said that the Jedi becoming political and military figures and peacekeepers is exactly what let Sidious pull off his plot
Order 66 and the swift rise of the Empire would have been much less palatable to the general galaxy if they couldn't push the "The Jedi grew mad with power and tried to take full control" narrative

They should have used that more
I got a lot of mileage out of that one set in TOR once they put in transmogging.
Nobody ever passes Master Anakins final test though
Let them.have team names like team mace windu or obi won, like legends of the hidden temple
let team anakin never get to the rank master

THERE IS NO TRY

They aren't often shown to be basically penniless holy men and women who have nothing to their name but their lightsabers and robes
They're heroes who have spaceships and crews and positions of power and respect
