    I agree.
Interesting premise though. Being trapped in the Soul Stone and having to right wrongs to get out.

If the movie is Black Widow's Soul Stone adventures, will Gamora make an appearance? Would getting out mean there could be two Gamoras running about in GOTG3?

I’m assuming this is an MCU prequel, as in before Iron Man 1, back when Natasha was still an assassin.

There’s a masked bow and arrow guy that’s gotta be Clint. If it is him, then the movie can’t take place between Ultron and Endgame, since he was either retired, jailed, house arrested, or a vigilante during that period.

I'm assuming it takes place either after Winter Soldier or Civil War. The masked guy is Taskmaster and I really cannot wait to see how they do his photographic reflexes ability.

I don’t really follow comics too deeply, but who is Taskmaster and why/how would be emulate Hawkeye?

But I enjoyed the trailer. I really like Black Widow’s arc throughout the MCU and the trailer seems kinda like a Borne-esk spy movie, but just self aware enough to get away with being a bit schlocky.

In a good way! Kinda like how Far From Home made fun of ridiculous storytelling that people fall for when they want believe something and fool themselves when afraid.

    I’m excited for it.

Taskmaster's power is that he can emulate anyones fighting style after seeing it once.
Like, oh no its Captain America! But then after one fight he knows all of Caps moves, can do all the moves and can counter them. Etc.
Its a pretty cool power set in the comics. Makes a villain that could be easily beaten by big names a lot more of a equal fight since after awhile he has almost every ones fighting style/playbook.

You know how at the end of Civil War Tony analyzes Caps fighting style and the "Lets kick his ass" the crap out of Cap all the sudden? Its like that but without a fancy suit.

It goes past fighting styles, too - basically any muscle movements he instantly memorizes and can flawlessly reproduce after seeing it, like reproducing password keystrokes.

He's kind of broken as a character - a far-from-exhaustive list stolen from Wikipedia:
Using these "photographic reflexes", the Taskmaster is highly skilled in various forms of combat, as an exceptional martial artist (mimicking Elektra, Iron Fist, Shang-Chi), a skilled swordsman (Black Knight, Silver Samurai, Swordsman), a deadly accurate marksman (Captain America with a shield, Hawkeye with a bow and arrow, Punisher with firearms, and Bullseye with various projectiles) as well as displaying a strenuously honed athletic ability (Black Panther, Daredevil).
Basically the Batman effect where a street level character can roll with cosmic level ones just by knowing their weaknesses well enough.

This is why the guy looks like a gun store and a renaissance fair had a bastard baby that does Assassin's Creed cosplay.

Some years back there was a gag in which it was implied he could effectively measure a person's dick was by mimicking their crotch scratch. Which means that it's 100% canonical that he CAN mimic laziness.

Edit: I tried to find the panel, but I can't remember enough of the details - it was one of those Aberforth and the donkey lines that you go back over three or four times trying to figure out if they really meant what you think they meant. I thought it was part of the same issue where it was established his powers don't work on Deadpool because Deadpool's style is basically, "Be immortal and flail around randomly until good things happen" but it doesn't seem to be in that one.

Comic editors are a weird breed, being simultaneously purveyors of deep societal insight and fine connoisseurs of the poop joke. The same mind that used mutation as an allegory for homosexuality also had a naked Hercules say to a fully clothed Thor, "I see you ALSO carry a hammer!"

Spoiler: Hercules doesn't carry a hammer.

How does this work? I assume that his "photographic memory" automatically convert other people's behaviors relative to his own physical dimensions, otherwise it wouldn't work, right?

So let's say he were to watch the Invisible Man jack off with only his hand visible. Would he be able to "know" the length of the Invisible Man's dick by reproducing his jack-off motion? Or would he just be jacking off relative to the size of his own dick?

I demand answers to these important questions.

Let me put on my nerd overthinking cap for a moment: He reproduces muscle movements with absolute precision. So while the motion would be scaled to Taskmaster's arm and hand size, it would not be scaled relative to any other body part (Edit: I mean to say, this is how he learns motions - once he knows them he can adjust and adapt almost instantly as well as reproduce them as seen). He can adjust by the ratio of arm lengths to get a ballpark estimate (likely not as accurate as suggested in the joke), which shouldn't be too hard for him to do on the fly, since he's a notable genius level intellect in a setting where a four digit IQ doesn't guarantee you entry into the top ten.

The best explanation for Taskmaster's abilities comes from his first mini.

He basically says that he can copy anything after seeing it once. No matter how hard, how technical, he can do it. He can also imitate voices.

And he could do this at a super young age, the first thing he copied was a cowboy's lasso trick. So logically this kid goes and copies everything. He copies the hook shot move he sees an NBA player do. He copies gymnastic moves that take years to learn. He copies a professional diver's pitch perfect dive into the water.

Except he hadn't gotten the swimming part down yet and nearly drowned.

And he realizes that he can copy the greatest dunk, but that doesn't make him a basketball player. He can copy the greatest dive but that doesn't make him a swimmer. He can copy the best fighting moves in the business but that doesn't make him a soldier.

He has to work hard to put together the moves he learns and how to apply them or else they are just random good fighting moves with no cohesion. Without training his body they don't have any sort of punch to them. And because of his work in studying someone and his photographic abilities he can super accurately predict what people are gonna do when fighting them. He's basically impossible to beat if he has studied you and you don't have super-human reflexes or strength.

And my favorite comic book application of his powers is that, in order to prepare for the toughest fight of his life against a dude who is stronger and faster than him, he watches a bunch of kung-fu movies on fast-foward. Because he has photographic reflexes, this basically lets him move twice as fast as the body is capable of....and it means he has a timer before the extreme usage tears his muscles, breaks his bones, and rips his tendons apart.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Is it like the T-1000 where once he samples it, he can mimic it forever? Or can he only mimic it while fighting the person he’s copying and forgets it like a goldfish once the fight is done? Or just remember only a bit and not all after?

I hope it’s the latter two, it sounds cooler as it make him just an average or just-above-average fighter at the start of a fight (instead of knowing bajillions of memorized moves) and gives anyone fighting him a quasi-time limit as Taskmaster quickly learns and emulates their skill until the inevitable!

I can already feel the tension.

Usually he just remembers it forever.

There was a mini that says for everything he learns, there's something he forgets, so he basically has no idea who he actually is or how he got to be in the life he is, but I don't think very many comics followed up on that premise.

Forever. Which is why he carries a knockoff Cap shield (he can do a less powerful version of the bouncy throw trick as well as several more shield-like defensive styles), a sword (he's copied at least three sword-based superheroes that I can think of), a bow and arrow (both Hawkeyes), throwing knives (Bullseye), AND pistols (Punisher and a few others). Also sometimes a rifle (same as above), billy clubs (Daredevil and Mockingbird), sais (Elektra), nunchuks (don't even remember who), and enough other weapons to make Frank Castle say, "Dude, I think that's enough."

As far as overpowered goes, all comic heroes and villains scale with popularity, but he still lives in the same city as the guy with the supernova in his chest, several living antimatter reactors, and a guy who has actually pushed two entire universes out of a collision course with each other, so he's kind of outclassed.

Prequels are a pretty good way to do this, but I don’t like the idea of Natasha having loose ends. Her narrative arc needs to be complete per her sacrifice in Endgame.

It’s like Peter Parker being permanently killed without resolving the stingers from Homecoming and/or Far From Home.

To add to the "usually", the title of the book doesn't necessarily stop them from being defeated.

They can still lose their girlfriend tragically, get beaten up and barely escape, have their back broken, go broke, annoy others around them so badly no one wants to be their friend, accidentally become the villain out of incompetence, and even die.

Its just the title may give them time to heal, get into new positive relationships, figure out a new way to get out of poverty, seek redemption, and even replace them with a sibling, child, friend, co-worker, clone, or bring them back from the dead.

If it’s the former: BOOOOOOOO! Overpowered characters are boring!
Like most comic book characters, Taskmaster is exactly as powerful as his current author needs him to be.

Regardless of relative power levels, natural counters, preparation, knowledge of/access to weaknesses, etc etc, the answer to "who would win in a fight" is usually answered by checking which one's name is in the title.

Taskmaster is extremely powerful. He can beat nearly anyone else in hand to hand combat if he has studied them.

The ways people beat him are by surprising him, by being someone he hasn’t studied, by being someone far above his weight-class, or by being completely unpredictable.

And many just beat him because Taskmaster at the end of the day isn’t a true believer but is out for money, which is why he usually is training people instead of doing the rough jobs.

Like, ok here's an example also from the taskmaster mini. He is stealing some shit and whoops ironman shows up. So taskmaster shoots a guard so that he'll bleed out quick if he doesn't get medical attention and fuckin books it. Because he can't do shit to ironman really.

In a different comic Taskmaster is teaching some new heroes how to fight embiggened people. Giant man and the like.

"When your opponent is bigger, their weakpoint is bigger. Their achilles tendon is three feet tall."

I think he follows this up by punching one of the giants in the dick to knock them out when they start giving him lip.

I don’t know, if sizes are relative and I was punched in the dick by a three inch sized martial arts master, I’d be annoyed but not down for the count as if I fell off a bike.

I just checked and I was wrong, he used his shield to punch the guy in a nerve cluster in his neck and knock him the fuck out.

What if the martial arts master could exactly replicate how you jack off.

I've been waiting on Taskmaster to be in something for awhile. I didn't get interested in him until Marvel vs Capcom 3, where he was amazing.

Then why would I do all the work from that point on.

    Also, why?!

Really what we need is a Taskmaster/Deadpool buddy cop movie.

When I watched The Hitmans Bodyguard with Reynolds and Jackson all I could see was Deadpool and Fury.

I enjoy comics Taskmaster for his personality, but his powerset is OP and boring as fuck. "I'm better than you at everything you do, plus everything you can't do" is just... lazy character design 101. On the upside, the MCU has thus far not hesitated to bring character power levels into enjoyable limits, so hopefully it will mean he operates as something less than Prep-time Batman 100% of the time.

As for the Widow movie in general, I'm torn. I'm interested in what I'm seeing, except that anything from the Infinity Saga should be done and I'm just not interested in going back and revisiting that phase. About the only exception would be if this means we're getting Widow back somehow and this movie is part of that, but obviously we can't know that from the trailer. I'd say I'd be ambivalent even about that, but the MCU already kinda violated the "no sacrifice comes back" situation with Gamorra, so I guess it wouldn't be a big deal to bring Widow back as well, somehow.

Though I'd prefer it if there was some kind of actual effort involved, so we don't have a situation where people are just basically getting wished back by the Dragonballs or whatever.

Counterpoint: Your balls are now the size of go-karts and didn't grow body armor.
