Of everyone in that BoF2 party image, I legitimately forgot that Katt existed. For some reason, I thought BoF1's Bleu was the 8th party member, because I remember you do get a crazy powerful mage character in the game.

I think the weakest characters for BoF2 were Sten (monkey) and Jean (frog) and I mean weak as in least-memorable. Bow takes 3rd, and because I couldn't even remember Katt, she's like, zero on the list. Seriously, what purpose did she serve in the game? I don't remember!

My usual party was Hero, Rand, Spar and Nina. Kind of sucks that Spar is the last character you get in the game, though.

I'm going to have to wiki the game now to remember things.

her personal plot was something about... running away from her clan because of an arranged marriage or something, maybe? I'm probably misremembering this, it's very hazy.

heh the fan wiki I'm looking at seems to have plot summaries for most of the characters, but not Katt

Bleu was a quasi-secret character in BoF2. If I remember correctly, it's unclear if she's the same Bleu from the first game. Kind of a Jeane from Suikoden situation.

Hey Nintendo thread, I'm playing Spirit Tracks, one of only two mainline Zeldas I've never finished, and am up to the Snow Temple

my impression so far is that Spirit Tracks is MASSIVELY underrated and a HUGE improvement over Phantom Hourglass, which I went back to for a 100% run a little over a year ago.

apparently, she is officially the same person but that's not really communicated very well in bof2

    that's probably a translation issue

Bleu/Deis is 100% the same in BoF 1, 2, and technically is Ershin in 4. And then she's in 3 too

It really is unfair to the Ninas in the other games that BoF2 Nina is my favorite because of the black wings, but maybe they should have thought of that before becoming healers again.

Spirit Tracks is excellent (although I sometimes found navigating the rails a little tedious).

Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks have such great characterization and personality beats that they made me laugh out loud during my commute on the subway back in the day.

Spirit Tracks has trains and is therefore the best Zelda. But that final boss, and the soundtrack in general are just stellar.

It definitly has one of my favorite gags, from the bit where Zelda tells you to go on your quest.
"You have a very important mission ahead of you. The kingdom is in danger. We're all counting on you. You understand the gravity of the situation, don't you? You must find the sacred glyphs in this tower! I will wait for you here. That's what we princesses have always done. From what I understand, it's kind of a family tradition."

The last bit is funny enough, but it's her face and panicked insistence that realy make the scene.

I question if Link understands anything of anything. If he does it's not expressed in any way, except Wind Waker.

I know it's going to be the snes version of BoF2, but I wish they would just cheat and put the GBA version up instead. I have a hard time recommending the snes version. The GBA version is fantastic though. It fixes a whole ton of issues including the localization and the random encounter rate.

The best part of this is that this is one of like, two games in the series to subvert this.

Aside from the porn talk I am thoroughly enjoying AI Somnium Files’s story

Also, for how often it mentions boobs I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much I am enjoying the female characters, and Mizuki, the 12 year old adoptive daughter of the protagonist, is kickass and really decently written for being both a girl and a pre-teen in a video game.

I think what makes the dialogue in the somnium files work for me is how the protagonist is constantly switching between being extremely horny and insisting that he has not once in his life ever been horny.

I really appreciate how easy it is to switch from chapter to chapter, as well as the chapter summaries which can be read at any time. With the story the way it is the different paths get confusing very easily.

I’ve been wondering from whose perspective the glossary/character listing is written; it doesn’t appear to be Date’s, unless he’s the one with a crush on the masked investigator?

If you want a decent mystery visual novel with a few puzzle elements and don’t mind a bit of a boob fixation it’s very enjoyable!

And the voice acting is also very decent (incidentally, it shares a few VAs with Fire Emblem. The main character voices Lukas in Echoes and Male Byleth’s, Dimitri’s, Owain’s and Dorothea’s VAs are also part of the main cast). There was a scene I played last night where one of the cast is upset and sobbing and her VA pulled it off really well, I felt.

I was very impressed with the voice acting in Somnium Files. Almost every character is well acted, but what really struck me is the scripting and direction always feels very natural. A lot of games or anime that have been translated end up feeling a bit stilted or unnatural, so I really enjoyed that all the dialogue in the game flowed so well, especially because there's a lot of voice acting in here.

Going from finishing AI: The Somnium Files to watching an anime dub that wasn't quite as successful at this was some real whiplash, let me tell you.

The Indie Showcase had a few announcements

The most exciting one of which is Murder by Numbers, a Phoenix Wright style adventure with Picross puzzles with music from Phoenix Wright's lead composer.

Maybe if we had some UI or text, we’d know more.

In all seriousness, it looks like a platformer adventure with some sword combat. But for all I know, it could have you only control the sword, or something.

Gleamlight came off to me like a so-so knockoff of Hollow Knight

but that also seems extremely unfair and when we see more of it maybe it won't seem that way anymore

For a moment, I thought that maybe you were literally the sword and the only thing you actually did was choose which character got to wield you

like if you choose one guy in the party he does more damage but maybe moves slower or something. Or maybe if you let someone evil wield you, you get more treasure but you also end up killing bystanders or something. and the game has no text or UI because you don't actually do anything but direct how you best think the story should unfold.

.... which could actually be kind of a unique game
