I didn't think that was targeting at all. Bug swing on that call.

That was obvious targeting. Lowered his head like a moron.

Doesn't matter. If you lower your helmet to tackle it doesn't matter what part of the body you make contact with. It's to protect the tackler.

He had Lawrence dead to rights and lowered his head like a dingus, it’s textbook targeting.

The kicker is that that was a helluva sack if he just doesnt lower his head

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Am I wrong or does Ohio state have two number 2's. Cause there's one on offense and one on defense and they're different people

Many, many teams do this because there are 130 people on a college football team.

And yes, Chase Young and JK Dobbins both wear #2 for Ohio State.

Ohio State has a lot of number 2’s

They also have multiple players who wear the number 2 on their uniforms

    :)

Not that it matters but the Big 10 Supervisor of Officials said that the call shouldn't have been reversed.

    I love this quote:
Referee Ken Williamson told a pool reporter after the game that "the ball was becoming loose in his hands and he did not complete the process of the catch."

Carollo said Williamson "misspoke on that. The ball was not moving."

Thank god we won't be entering into another championship game under a cloud of shitty referee calls.

  • OghulkOghulk Tinychat Janitor TinychatRegistered User regular
Don't really feel like the referee calls gave away the game though. Ohio State was absolutely in a position to win

  • enlightenedbumenlightenedbum Registered User regular
If they didn't suck in the red zone they're up 28-0. Also don't target the QB.

Perhaps not. But the fumble was returned for a touchdown. It certainly mattered.

I can kind of see how they might make that call. To start, watching it full speed instead of super slow motion, it's so quick it does look like a dropped pass. And we know they do make that speed difference a factor in close call decisions. Then you have the whole "process of the catch" rule vagueness/interpretation. He has the ball in his hands, but is immediately being tacked. Since he's not advancing the ball upfield and if they thought he wasn't making any moves to avoid or break away from the tackle, if they believed both of those then he should also need to maintain control to the ground to complete the catch, which he didn't do. So that's likely how they came to reverse it, rightly or wrongly.

And in general I'd rather they let those types of things play out as a fumble and reverse on replay than them blowing it dead immediately and seeing it should have been a fumble on replay.

Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.

The main thing that bothers me is that Williamson said the ball was becoming loose in his hands. If you look at the replay it's not loose at all. He grips it, he takes a couple of steps, and then it is stripped. So if you want to say he's not advancing the ball that's fine but don't say anything about the ball being loose.

Yeah about the time I was crowing about Dobbins being better than Jonathan Taylor, he was making me look like an idiot by dropping 2 TD passes on 2 separate drives that subsequently ended with FGs. That’s the difference in final score, btw...

...assuming that OSU being up 28-0 early in the 2nd quarter doesn’t completely change Clemson’s approach for the worse, which is actually pretty likely at that point...

This is just as much on the NCAA's head as it is on Kiffin's - Durkin should have been put on a "show cause" clause after what he did - but in the mind of the NCAA, those are for low level staff and coaches who are inconvenient for the NCAA, and not head coaches who fucking kill playets.

Rumor is Mike Leach has taken the MissSt job

Not a big surprise given he’s been sniffing around the SEC for the last few years

Maybe he thinks the better class of players he can recruit down there will make his system work better but to my mind SEC defenses are at least as smart as UW’s so he’s gonna have an uphill battle.
