hmm, I mean yeah
but it's only the 15th day, right?
we talking happy for a whole day (overall counts) or just moments or what
I wonder if it would be valuable or damaging to try and keep a happiness diary
Nothing adds to the gaiety of life like dissecting every fleeting moment of joy and assigning it a score based on an exhaustively annotated scale to see whether it qualifies as true happiness or is merely base contentment.

I bet there's a tech bro AI machine learning bitcoin distributed cloud startup for that.
making notes of things that made you happy in a day seems like a great practice
writing stuff downs reinforces it, if my understanding of how note taking works is true, and when I'm depressed I have a tendency to way overdo the negativity bias so reminders that no, in fact, life is not completely terrible might be good

I agree that practicing gratitude in general is a good thing

It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

well, yes, point taken
but consider the approach from the other direction, where the default experience of life is (or at the very least, feels like) one of unhappiness - maybe there's some value to making a deliberate effort of it?
I don't know, I've not done it and I'm not like advocating it or anything. I just read Shaz's post and the "happy in 2020" framing led me to consider if I had been happy in 2019 and it's difficult for me to answer that with any specifics even though I do think there were at least a couple of days in there probably.

the details are still hush hush but it'll be like 20 hours of travel and i'm already dreading the getting there

This is probably true. Certainly a recognition of and consequent greater focus on the things that bring us joy seems like a reasonable strategy.
You just keep a diary with a picture of each dog you meet that day.
(unless you're like a vet or work at the RSPCA maybe)
But you can also do this and then make it so when someone opens the diary it plays In the Arms of An Angel. Then leave it on your coffee table as a trap

Has a mod approved this pairing?

i'm sure there's a nice SAAS happiness diary that you could sub to for like 3 dollars a month that will give you periodic reminders to be happy

Be sure to make a note of your opinions of any aeroplane food you eat
Have you considered curling up and drinking in the early AM

I've had multiple trips where the plane food is the culinary highlight
I've read the word 'color' too many times in a row and now it looks like nonsense
