More importantly, a dirty trick the game doesn't teach you until a late tutorial is that the enemy will preferentially attack the LAST unit deployed, so put your Defenders down last.
See...this, this right here seems like important information!

Hrrrm. I thought you could use ten headhunting passes to do a fancy pull, but I guess not? I can only either use passes singly, or pay for a ten pull with unobtainium.
Edit: I may just not have any fancy pulls left now that I think about it.
Whew. Just finished A1 myself. The 998 run was heartbreaking. Then I got tilted and made a dumb mistake on the very next run.
Now to set up for A2/Lungmen, AKA the real shit. Probably won't be able to hit 400 on it today, but I'll see what I can get since it's weekly free Gacha currency the farther you get and lots of shop/exp/money currency.

Will repeating the Annihilations continue to give originum up to the weekly cap even if you can't beat it? Or do you only get it once like the tier rewards?

The 0/1200 amount you get no matter what, and it's unrelated to the tier rewards. If you kept throwing yourself at it and only got 100 kills each time, you'd still eventually cap out that 1200/1200. It's just more energy efficient to do well, plus those one time tier rewards.
What I want to know is if the tier rewards reset weekly.
Couldn't quite get to 400 this week. best I got was 396ish. The tank/healer combo I had for the mid lane just couldn't survive the heavy infantry guy at 350ish. That or my archer couldn't do the damage.
Gonna need to work on promoting people etc. for next week's I suppose.

Serious Protip: Invest in Shaw (Push) and Rope (Pull) and get their skills to lvl4 ASAP.
Using them to Firehose or Hookshot enemies off cliffs or into pits for instant kills cannot be understate. They can take out bosses this way. They can defend side lines by themselves or with limited support this way. They can also yank enemies off of one path to another path.
I tried as hard as I could, but I'm just not quite strong enough to past the final 2 waves Stat Check in Annihilation 2 - Lungmen. Oh well. Got the Penultimate rewards and I'll be able to get it this next week reset for sure.

I'm kind of getting bored of the gameplay loop on GFL, mostly just because I'm in a slow grinding pattern, and Dragalia Lost just really isn't keeping my attention well.
How good is the gameplay loop on this?
How thirsty is it, visuals wise? Ftp wise?
"I will write your name in the ruin of them. I will paint you across history in the color of their blood."
So, one question was answered there: The checkpoints on the annihilation quests are one time only. So it's not a huge rush to get them done before reset. You want to get the 1200/1200 unobtainium, but you can get there getting 350/400 clears instead of perfect board clears without too much stress.
I bought some furniture from the furniture shop thinking it was themed sets, since it's called themes, but it's not giving any bonus comfort. Either it's got a high threshold, or they tricked me. Sounds like you should mostly hoard furniture parts for limited time events (as expected if you know these games I guess.)
I didn't realize the weekly reset was on Monday
Since the game launched on Thursday, I figured it would be on Thursday. I guess that's better going forward, but I didn't get my 1200 out of the annihilation.
I did just get all the weekly missions knocked off last night though, whew.
Had enough stuff to do the second pull on the newbie and got jack all; don't even think there was a 5* unit? Maybe 1, I can't remember. Did 10 singles to get the guaranteed 5* and ended up with 3 5* units out of it, so I guess that makes up for it. Still just Exusiai and Shining as 6* units though.

There's more than one Annihilation map though. And as you clear the quests for the later maps the ????/XXXX free weekly gacha currency limit goes up.
As I posted above I got to 385/400 on the second map which let me earn 1550 instead of 1200 and would have been 1600(?) if I finished it.
Still haven't quite gotten Chernobog yet. Up to the 350 mark so far, and then it did what I feared it would. And my output was falling behind... and ugh.

I was trying to reroll for a bit, and feeling annoyed because I had hit Siege, then tried rerolling anyways, and got SilverAsh, but Exusia seemed really interesting so I tried rerolling again, and 3 or 4 times later I got Exusia and Angelina. I think I'll stick with this...

Stuck on 4-9 tonight. Barely, but consistently failing it near the end. These maps have taken a huge turn towards the more difficult in both stat checks and actual strategy. I'm now encountering enemy specialists that CC while having to stand on flaming ground and having very limited deployment locations.
But yeah, these last few hard missions have shown me where I'm currently lacking in my roster. Need to clearly invest in another good Guard (Luckily I just got Estelle from Recruitment), invest in and Elite another Defender (likely Cuora), and probably invest in Gravel as well as a spot-Defender. Also maybe a third Single target healer because I have two + an AoE, but some maps I want the increased range or extra single focus that my AoE Healer doesn't have. I also finally got an AoE Sharpshooter so hey, there's that too.
Gavel looks like a fun 4* Guard. Blocks two, hits two enemies at once, and heals when enemies around her die.
6 possible ranged titles to stand on. Every melee tile that you can actually stand on erupts with lava. And late in the map you get specialist enemies that CC your characters on top of heavy hitters and mobs.
Oh jeez. I'm still slowly working through chapter 2 here just grinding up upgrade materials and such... I got Meteor off a recruitment earlier which is nice though, gives me some options on the pew pew (and she armor shreds).

First Shaw is a story unlock. I want to say Rope should be easy to get also?
They're guaranteed from Recruitment if the Shift tag shows up.
LS-5 is a puzzle. This is the epitome of First World Problems but you need some serious low-cost units for this as you have to defend 4 lanes and defend them fast. I swapped my Archers to a 3* and 2* and still didn't have a strong enough low-enough-cost defender for a certain stage in the map until I tried something different after many, many failed attempted. I used Gravel to stall for the extra 5 seconds I needed. And then I just had Siege stay on the map in place of a Defender because she's tanky enough to be a minor one outside of not being able to block 3/4.
You want a strong 3* and Rangers Sharpshooters here, Plume or Vigna invested in are pretty much mandatory, and AoE or Hybrid Single/AoE healer helps a lot (especially low cost), and either a good 3*/low cost Defender or find a way to Stall till you can place your 4*+ Defenders down. You also need at least two magic damage units for the later waves.

Welp. I can get to 395 but that last step is eluding me so far.
also Anime is a banned word so my team is just Blood i guess.

And two 6* units overall is pretty good. I've done 41 pulls and still only have the one 6*.
There's also a 5* you start with, a 5* in the mail atm, and a 5* for 7 days login in a row.
