Hm I dunno what my favorite album was

I listened a lot less critically to music / not just tons on repeat etc due to life and my ear issues (and also doing a lot of audiobooks this year)

I also listened to lots of radio programs and dj sets

I need to go back and listen to some top things

I remember seeing PUP right before their debut came out, playing to a crowd of like 10 people at some crappy bar in Brooklyn. It's so great to see them getting wider recognition.

Here's some wholesome Xmas PUP content:

The band Martha is probably my favorite currently active band, and somehow I missed that they released a new full length last April. I don't pay a ton of attention to new music these days I guess. Point is, im super excited for this new Martha album!

Woo, was trying to remember what this song was when I got the melody stuck in my head. As it turns out, it can be hard to remember when it's in another language and it's not associated with any other media!

My cousin passed yesterday and was a big reason I got into playing guitar in the first place when I was younger. His favorite band was Pantera, so since I'm passed the grieving stage from yesterday I'm in the honoring his memory stage today.

I'm glad Mac is getting one last album. Usually I hate posthumous releases, but this is one of the few exceptions. I could go on and on about this dude, and it's funny his music always finds its way to me at crucial moments in my life. I felt like Mac was on a redemption path and got stopped halfway by his addictions and troubles. It's a story that's played out before in similar ways, but honestly his death hit me hard. I was going through some shit around that time. I remember I had was flying back from my family's home, last Xmas I was there. Listened to his previous album on the plane and it killed me.

And his new one is coming out before my next trip, this time for me it's a trip I worked really hard to save for, after years of getting sober... It's funny his last album was about death and swimming in place, but this one was the answer to that. This new album was about coming full circle, and learning from mistakes. And that's super relatable to me at this time in my life.

Idk these last two albums are like his magnum opus and he never got to finish it. But Jon Brion was helping him make it and stepped in to finish it. But I feel like it's important, to me and probably a decent amount of other people. Shame a lot of talent dies so young. It makes me feel guilty for focusing on work when I want to do things like that. He's an inspiration, and his music makes me want to get off my ass and do things, and that's always good. I struggled with a lot of the same problems Malcom did. But I don't think he wanted to die, he wanted to get better. His music reflected that! It's full of life.

This Poppy album is so good. I haven’t even watched the music video yet, which is what initially drew me to Poppy (possibly the same path for most Poppy fans).

The first song is like a mashup of Genki Rockets and hardcore (?) metal. It’s so alL over the map from song to song. Chaotic good.

I was really into Lowlife by Poppy and then couldn't get into anything else. Started getting into Grimes and picked up "Am I a Girl?" from the library and didnt even know there was a Grimes track on it because the first few tracks turned me off so much. Everything Ive heard of "I disagree" sounds amazing tho, shes like Kittie spiked with Babymetal but reborn in Silent Hill.

I found all of the Poppy videos to be grating wastes of time to the point that I think I called people out on posting that inane bullshit in chat because oh my god why would anyone even care about this

...and yet I don't hate this

    I actually kinda love it

My cousin passed yesterday and was a big reason I got into playing guitar in the first place when I was younger.

I got back from the services in MA yesterday, and my aunt and uncle were passing out CDs with some music that John made. So I grabbed one and ripped it. If you'd like a listen here ya go:

I'm biased, but it's pretty dope. Instrumental, very ambient prog-rocky. It's not a complete album but more of an assortment of songs, and I believe it has some sampled instruments, but all the guitar is him and I believe all the drums is his sister Jill. Give it a go.

Edit - 1, 4, and 5 are probably my favorite tracks.

Metalcore outfit Volumes kicks out co-founding vocalist Gus Farias, his brother (and co-founding guitarist) Diego leaves willingly, former co-founding vocalist Michael Barr rejoins as a vocalist along with keeping Myke Terry (formally of Bury Your Dead).

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anwp04pZH_0

Entire scene is hype beyond hype. The Farias brothers were notoriously holding Volumes back from their earlier sound from the albums Via and No Sleep. The combination of Mike and Myke is exponentially promising.

I just wanted to mention I'm trying to buy tickets to My Chem's reunion tour in Philly and Wells Fargo's site is a fucking nightmare.

Edit - After 2 hours and 10 minutes of trying I actually got through, and got decent seats too. My credit card is hurting but my little sister will love me forever so, that's more important than the money.

So in a strange and unexpected bit of news to follow up that Volumes post from last week, Diego Farias (the guitarist) passed away today. It's shitty to hear, I was excited for him to go into producing bands and material. He had some great riffs on Via and No Sleep from Volumes, and I hope Gus takes it in a healthy way and not in a self-destructive way. RIP Diego.

In more happier news, my favorite metalcore band August Burns Red announced their new album Guardians out April 3rd. Along with a sick music video and single.
    https://youtu.be/48L67oBBvHQ

The vocal mix seems a little low which makes them hard to hear, but the rest of it sounds super good. They also posted merch bundles.
