Just heard on the la radio station 95.5 KLOS. That his daughter , 13, was on board. I feel for these families.

County sheriff just confirmed 9 bodies, at the press conference. So even worse than originally reported. God, I hope that didn't include more young children.

Lebron is a mess
LeBron James in tears as he exits the Los Angeles Lakers team plane following the news of Kobe Bryant's death. James passed Kobe for 3rd on the all-time scoring list yesterday.

I worry because they were on the way to the game. It's s possible she has teammates with her and their families/A guardian with them.

Magic Johnson-
My friend, a legend, husband, father, son, brother, Oscar winner and greatest Laker of all-time is gone. It’s hard to accept. Kobe was a leader of our game, a mentor to both male and female players.
Its weird. I wasnt a big fan of him even though he's one of the greats. But this is kind of hitting me hard. I keep thinking about his wife, his other daughter's , and the daughter that was on board. Dude was a hell of a dad. Glad to say I got to see him play at staples in the playoffs when he beat my suns. It's a sad day.

Bryant was also a big soccer fan, fell in love with the game when he was on Italy. He made friends with the best of the best of that time, Brazilian player Ronaldinho. Today, Ronaldinho has this to say:
I wonder if this will go league wide
For reference in the major American sports there are only two league wide retired numbers
Jackie Robinson's 42 in the mlb and Wayne Gretzky's 99 in the nhl

Wonder how many other teams will do the same.
This is all still pretty surreal. Guy was still contributing so much to the sport after his retirement, is one of the many reasons it stings.

I feel like all teams should do this. I love Mark Cuban.
Just saw the update on cnn. Kobe, his wife, and daughter all on board. So fucking sad. I've never gotten emotional about celebs, but Jordan, Barkley, and Shaq are right there

Where is this info? All initial reports specifically mentioned that Vanessa Bryant was not on board.

You really need to read more carefully before posting "it was confirmed" because I've just checked CNN and Vanessa Bryant was definitively not on board per all reports.
And if you have something that does confirm new information, post the link, don't just post "it was confirmed"
Yeah I specifically quoted Grunt's Ghosts talking about coach Altobelli. There are quite a few articles talking about it, including CNN, and the source is his brother. Kobe's wife and other 3 daughters were not on the helicopter from articles I read.

Nine dead is the count, Kobe and his daughter Gigi, John Altobelli and his wife and daughter, a mother who was a coach, and another mother and daughter are the only ones confirmed and released via family so far.
Just thought about his basketball legacy and who comes even close to him. If we limit it to his active years (and leave out that Jordan played in the beginning of that time for convenience sake) - there is only four other players in my mind that come even close to his level. Lebron of course, Shaq, Duncan and Dirk. Everyone else who played the past 20 years is a step down at least. Players like Steph Curry or Anthony Davis or Kevin Durant will maybe one day be in that stratosphere, but they still have at least a decade of playing in front of them.
He would come across as an arrogant player most of the time (to me at least), but his skill was undeniable. And he backed that up with titles.
Foggy conditions morning of crash
The crash occurred under foggy and cloudy conditions with extremely low visibility, CNN meteorologist Michael Guy said.
Pictures taken shortly after the crash showed fog in the area.
Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Tony Imbrenda said he didn't immediately have information about whether the Sikorsky S-76B helicopter radioed a distress signal.
"Individuals that saw the aircraft said it was coming down at a fairly significant rate of speed and impacted the ground on the hillside," he told reporters.
Sikorsky, the helicopter manufacturer, expressed condolences in a tweet Sunday.
"We extend our sincerest condolences to all those affected by today's Sikorsky S-76B accident in Calabasas, California," the tweet read. "We have been in contact with the NTSB and stand ready to provide assistance and support to the investigative authorities and our customer. Safety is our top priority; if there are any actionable findings from the investigation, we will inform our S-76 customers."
The aircraft was built in 1991, according to the FAA and registered to Island Express Holding Corp.
Calls to Island Express were not answered Sunday.
Yeah. Is on the pilot and whoever authorized the take off, those are not safe flying conditions, no wonder the company owning the helicopter doesn't want to answer calls, they can be held fully responsible. For starters, Kobe's family should sue the shit out of them.
While yes, it is ultimately up to the pilot to make such calls, it is too early to be tossing blame around especially when rich and powerful people whom are used to getting their way are involved.
Black lives matter.

Christ. Watching videos of Kobe showing the ropes to his daughter is now heartbreaking. As The Ringer writes, he didn't died like The Black Mamba, but as a father spending time with his daughter.

I'll keep saying it. No one should play tonight.
Ugh. What a fucking thing to happen.

He was a big kobe fan if I remember right even though he's from boston.
12 Sports AZ deleted the video, likely because they suddenly got a lot of very angry phone calls.

Very, very sad stuff.
It was confirmed that his wife and youngest daughter were on board (she was a teammate with Kobes daughter). 😥
Wait, what? Not only his daughter but the mother too?

Fucking sad. I was never a big Kobe fan, but losing him like this (and his daughter as well) sucks.
