I accidentally rolled the last music thread over so I went a head and made a new one.

So what are you listening to? Post your jams and your grooves and give me new stuff to listen to.

I'm going back through Nathaniel Rateliff's Falling Faster Than You Can Run because it's a very rainy, wistful day and this is a very rainy, wistful album.

So Conner Oberst announced that Bright Eyes are coming back with new music and a round of shows in LA, NYC, Tokyo, and a festival in the UK.

They're playing two shows in LA, the first is May 21 with Lavender Diamond and another on the 22nd with "special guest." My idea was that the special guest would be Phoebe Bridgers, since they released an album together last year and she's LA-based, but she has a show in Toronto the night before and one in DC the night after.

I'm really curious but I also already have a ticket to see Wild Nothing and Beach Fossils' joint 10-year anniversary show on the 22nd anyway, so if I see Bright Eyes it'll have to be on the 21st.

Man...I just realized that I've pretty much just moved through MYTH & ROID, Reol, and Mizuki Nana songs as my obsession of the moment for the past few years. Every now and then some Caravan Palace or something from an ad or the League of Legends music videos breaks in for a while. But mostly it's all JP all the time.

Reol just dropped a new album like yesterday. So I should be topped off for a while.

Music thread, I come to you at a time of dire musical need. Upon awakening from a late afternoon nap, I woke up with a tune in my head. The tune slapped so much, the judge filed a court order and an eviction notice. The darnedest thing is I can't remember where I heard this tune last, and the memory of it is slipping fast. Can you help me find it again?

IIRC, it was played by a rock ensemble, and the tune itself had a fast beat to it, and started out somewhere around the tonic, played some notes close by, then by the middle of the phrase it suddenly played some notes like 3/4 up the scale and stayed there. Then, and that's the thing, the whole phrase is played again with more force. I'm sorry I can't describe the tune in more detail, but I assure you, it was a goddamn slapper, so if we could find it again, that'd be nice.

I'm at an Alexisonfire concert right now in spite of not really being a fan. That is what I'm listening to.

I usually like low chill indie jams, but I can deal with this.

Makes me want to Tony Hawk Pro Skate.

    hello music thread

I have recently had a Revelation

    which is,

    Evanescence genuinely, legitimately owns

I'm more of a fan of her first super highschool angst goth album but her later more mellow emo phases are good too

let's all get back into an unironic love of Bring Me To Life in the 2020s

So, question, based on the JP stuff I linked up above, who should I be checking out in English music?

It feels a bit weird sometimes to almost exclusively listen to foreign music, when presumably there's plenty of similar stuff I can fully appreciate without staring at a lyrics translation until it's burned into my brain.

I think I'm going to try and buy a ticket to see Tanya Tucker and Orville Peck play at Pappy and Harriet's our in Pioneerville when they go on sale tomorrow.

That can be like a 4 hour drive with traffic (like 2:40 without) but like, it's Tanya Tucker.

This children's choir cover of Crystal Castles - Untrust Us has been looping for me for days now.

Probably for the best that they only approximate the lyrics though.

There's a new Kesha album out today. It's very good.

There's kind of a joke to it, especially at the beginning, that suggests that it's going to be like her last album. Which, you know, was also great, but was a different flavor than some of her earlier stuff. But this album is full of raunchy dance music, it's like the Kesha I first fell in love with back in college. There are some great slow sad songs in there too, she's more than proven that she's multi-faceted artist in that regard.

But hearing these new party jams, hearing her say, in no uncertain terms, "Fuck it, this is what I'm good at, this is what I love, this is what I'm going to do," it makes me so happy. It's happy with just a hint of sadness, knowing the path that has led her to this point, but hearing this again, it's so good. I'm so glad she made it through, I'm so glad she's here.

Anyways, the point is that it's good. Here's the first track off the album:

she's just been really nasty in interviews i've read with her, especially about people who used to be in the band. she comes off as a very mean petty individual

There is a consistent theme of weaponizing the criticisms and dismissals that have been thrown her way throughout the album

Truly she is the Dazzler we deserve
