Maybe I was just better at the game by then but double ape fight I thought was easier than guardian and the fight is totally worth two beads

Seemed that way to me, maybe just in virtue of not having to slog through the first stage.

Second ape fight was super-easy for me

I also feel the Okami Warrior Women should be a bit stronger to earn their reputation but maybe that's also just getting better at the game

I feel like that whole area is almost a relaxation and recuperation resort after the previous boss rush I usually go on. That being said everything there is just this side of wrong, and the enemies can surprise chunk you if you’re not being careful. Not to mention the Lightning and Aging attacks that force you to ambush almost everything. But you’re right in that you can simply overpower most of the Okami fighters simply by continually attacking, and that’s a bit of a let down.

Okami are also super weak to poison.

So I screwed something up trying to get the purification ending (I must have missed an eavesdropping opportunity) so instead went for a different ending
I did NOT know renouncing Kuro ends the game right there. Oh well, I finished a new game plus this way and I think I am done with Sekiro finally.

Man Orin is the wooooorst. On NG++ at this point and every time I run into her it's like a damn brick wall. I can almost no damage everything short of the final bosses, but I've probably put in 18 hours on this one miniboss through three runs now.

I never feel bad about cheesing her.

It’s part of the reason I still haven’t updated, because they fixed how you can take out her first bar.

Just hopped back on this last night after a 2 well hiatus. Took down the boss from Hirata revisited after about an hour's worth of attempts which isn't bad. Pretty sure I am going to save scum the remaining two good endings and then once more through for the bad ending. There just isn't enough here for 4 play throughs.

Are you fighting him at the top of the castle? He is a bit of a road block for sure. Very satisfying to finally beat though.

Yes. I gave up many many months ago and decided fuck it lemme try this again but now I remember why I gave up.

    Because I am BAVD

    Bad At Video Gamez™️

I've gotten him to his second phase all of twice in the 834 times I've fought him. 98% of the time I get merc'd before I take one pip off his health. Its basically to the point where if I take any damage early enough on I just let him kill me and don't even revive because there is absolutely no point.

Play those times out and practice parrying him. When you can parry his flurry sequence it really adds up.

Another thing that fight drilled into to me was the importance of the dash’s follow-up attack. If I remember correctly it does a decent bit of extra health damage. Then as you wear down his health he starts taking more posture damage on each of those parries.

The key to beating sekiro bosses is to stop trying to beat them this time through. Whenever I got stuck on a boss, I would spend a few runs getting very comfortable solely being on the defensive (this means figuring out how to safely be in their face with deflects, not just running away). Then I'd start looking for openings, and start layering in offence from there

I may need to try and level or something to compensate for my general garbage skills by being less squishy. Maybe find another estus health squash

I think the speedrun at AGDQ used cheese strategies for many bosses, I'll need to check when I'm at the desktop again

  • JavenJaven Registered User regular
Yeah there’s a place in that area where you can lure the boss and basically just lock them in. It’s definitely a cheese but that section is such a huge roadblock otherwise, and Sekiro doesn’t give you as many opportunities to grind it out and make things redundant like Dark Souls does.

  • KetBraKetBra Dressed Ridiculously Registered User regular
The Genichiro fight especially is about teaching you how to balance offence and defence (and how proper defence is actually the best offence). There are a couple of combos where you can absolutely murder his stamina through good deflect timings.

From what i remember the most efficient way is to face him head on without moving much and nailing those parries

Hell ya, took down the demon of hatred. Didn't end up using a resurrection and still had 1/10 gourd charges on the successful run. I also did not use the whistle or umbrella strats which I saw online after I best him.

    So satisfying.

Sekiro is a rhythm game. Embrace it and ruin those bosses.

The Genichiro fight at the top of the castle was definitely the thing that finally locked me into the game. Failed that fight at least 40 times before beating him. Second playthrough I breezed by him on the first attempt, it was amazing how effective a training tool that fight was the first time. The only fight that gave me more of a rush when I beat it was the second Hirata estate one (... which also took like 40+ attempts....)

Decided to play this a bit since I had it lying after after a sell and I was waiting for P5R and FF7R.

It's fun at not a bit frustrating at times. That said as with all 3rd person action games the true final boss is the camera.

I've been replaying it, and A) it's funny how much bosses seem to have new moves compared initial release and B) yes, the camera is forever trash.

Like, I have no idea how they gave the OK for the Assassin Miniboss in the well.

Alright mother fuckers I'm doing this again.

I crashed hard against Grinchio and quit playing so since I've probably got the Rona and can't leave my apartment I'm taking another stab at the game from scratch. So far I seem to be having a better time of it. I clapped Big Horse first try and Hot Cow with only 1 revive. Had to look at a guide for Butter Granny but I got her after a few attempts. Just cheesed Too Many Spears near the starting tower by eventually getting the timing right and jumping on his stupid fucking face and combo locking him. I'm kinda fucking around now to build up my strength for my rematch against Regichio.

I've been doing some seeds of a Sekiro randomzier and it's been pretty great so far, and sometimes hilarious

Seeing boss names like "General Chained Ogre" and "Headless - Ashina Elite" is pretty good. And did you know you can basically get through the entire Hirata estate without the grapple tool?

    I never beat bloodborne either

I got stuck on one of those hunter fights

    I haven't beaten a soulsborne since darksouls 2.

I think the biggest difference this playthrough is I'm having to make a very concious effort to pause in between attacks.

It's not very intuitive because we're so trained on button mashers but you can't spam attack and win or you'll just over extend your combo and they'll attack right through it. Pausing between each attack gives me a second to read the enemy and know whether I need to parry or if I can take another swing. It doesn't always work but I feel like I'm burning through enemies that gave me a lot of trouble last time. Also helps I finally started looking indepth at skills and going for latent abilities that focus on healing, sneaking, and posture damage.

there's one more scroll but you can only get it if you've learned the master skill on any scroll you've already got

Oh hey I'm currently trucking through a retry on sekiro and made it to the fountainhead palace. Now even though I've already spoiled the crap out of the game for myself by looking up how to get the different endings I gotta say
I didn't see the giant braided rope golem carrying me to the fountainhead palace coming.

Lol nvm fuckin shittyman warrior and snake eyes Jerry have completely stalled me out.

I only had 3 divine confetti and of course I immediately wasted them in the first fight and cant find anymore so I moved on to try and fight snake eyes and I can cheese it and sneak behind him for one deathblow but that's it. His posture fills so slowly and all it takes is one fuck up and I'm dead.

I also have to fight the goddamned controls to even get close to him. I've fallen off ledges like 3 times because I jump to grapple and the camera goes "lol no" cuts off the grapple icon and let's me just plummet to my death.

I really want to beat at least one From game in my life but oh my god oh my good god.

  • JavenJaven Registered User regular
Any enemy that requires or even recommends divine confetti is purely optional. The items they have are good, but if you're stalled you can just avoid them.

Also doesn't require divine confetti. It doesn't have any BS status ailments or anything like the headless.
