I liked in one of the eu books an editor trying to say "no spice means like pepper han should never sell drugs" and I think kja going to Lucas and him saying "what no han totally smuggled space heroin"

My work friend bought the Outer Rim board game and we played it for a bit before parent/teacher conferences started today. We did not finish but it was fun! I played as Han Solo and just RP'd him the whole time trying to do stuff that I think he'd do instead of actually playing to win the game. My only self goals were to find Chewbacca and buy a YT-1300. By the time we quit, I'd gotten Chewie, and DL-44, and was one turn away from unlocking the Millennium Falcon title on the YT I'd purchased. I'd even already purchased a smuggling compartment for it. Also I had Hera Syndulla onboard as well as a bunch of poor child stowaways that Han felt sorry for and was giving a lift.
I mean, saffron is expensive as shit. Space saffron is probably exponential.
Also, literal wars have been fought over spices.

people have talked a lot about "he lost the star wars" and the inexplicable poe/rey romance, but honestly i think the moment that will stick with me is the part where c-3po kills an enemy astromech by tearing it open and pulling out fistfuls of its inner wiring, as he begs it to please just stop screaming

Oh, it definitely isn't a slamdunk good script, but it sounds like fun.

I will probably not read that script, but the idea of Threepio being pushed into heroics and getting his hands dirty is kind of compelling for a final entry.

Later on in the script C3P0 is crying of the astromechs crumpled body saying he will never be the same! It's a great scene!
Also the script swings super dark in a lot of places. Like, Rey goes through the fucking ringer in the end, but her character is more fully rounded and not just acting on behalf of others. It feels like him and Rian were actually swapping notes, which is like, what you want out of a series?
Also the secondary characters are kept slim, and Rose has a whole lot more to do than in RoS and even TLJ.
Would have loved to see the brute troopers in action too.
Poe and Rey also don't get together in the end! Which is great because she abuses the shit out of him (to save him and the galaxy, but still). Don't mind control your friends, yo.
I'm really not into the idea of anybody/anybody in just about any kind of operatic story with a bunch of life or death struggles and world changing events happening. Like, you guys are fighting off genocidal facists and undead space wizards who can annihilate half the galaxy you have more important things to worry about than do they like, like-like you.
And it always feels very out of place to me. Like, how do two people who've been through all the horrible, harrowing things that our hypothetical protagonists have just been through go and settle down and live happily ever after with perfectly normal, well adjusted lives? That just doesn't really happen.
I love the Miyazaki approach to it. You can absolutely have two protagonists who love each other but it's much more a... fraternal love? They've been through a lot of shit together and they rely on each other a lot but they ain't always gotta kiss at the end. It feels more natural.
That was why I really liked how the first two sequels seemed to be handling the original characters. Nobody really came out of that mess completely ok and had to deal with the trauma in their own ways. Leia threw herself into the Resistance, Han went back to the only thing he knew, and Luke fucked off to a tiny island to hide. It felt very appropriate. Especially in this day and age where we have a large part of society trying to make everybody remember the good ole days and make various things great again so we can all ignore the actual, terrible shit that's happening right now.
Yeah, they are mostly compitant and wield darksaber esque weapons. They are force sensitive and one of them even gets hooked up to some wierd Minority Report precog device to let the others know the future.
Later, Chewie throws one into the air and blasts him Duck Hunt style
So, in TFA, 3PO had a red arm. Which was given a somewhat meaningful backstory in a tie-in comic.
Then TLJ comes along and he either changed the arm back or had it painted.
They ever explain why?
No, and that's fine.
Honestly, now that you've mentioned it, I'm a bit surprised that there weren't a bunch of 3P0 lines in TROS talking about how significant the red arm was to him and how he only had it replaced because that terrible Admiral Holdo told him to.
The writing in TROS is so bad that it is the first Star Wars movie I've seen where I'm like "Maybe we just don't count this as canon. At all."
What? You don't want to read a comic about how Poe became a drug dealer?
They are actually doing a novel about Poe's youth. From the preview, it already had a messed up detail as compared to Shattered Empire (which established who Poe's parents were). Maybe that was the preview's fault and the book will be fine.

Aren’t Threepio’s arms ornamental at best anyway? Aside from gesturing when playing god did he need them for anything or ever use his hands at all?
Like, if Chewbacca came back with a new metal red arm, that’d be something. But an arm’s like a hubcap or a t-shirt for a protocol droid.
