All the kids were excellent, I felt, which is an achievement that isn't mentioned much.

Don't take this the wrong way @Bogart but after today I think I can go a few years without hearing your opinions about Gary Oldman and another George Smiley movie. =P
Color out of Space is almost a perfect movie. I mean this almost quite literally. Not in that its the best movie you will have ever seen but that it is (almost) exactly perfect for what it is.
Kind of end spoilers.
The movie starts and ends on a monologue. The beginning monologue works. I like it. The ending monologue kind of works but is also unnecessary. The film would work better if the ending scene was just the PoV character standing on a dam smoking a cigarette for three minutes
Don't take this the wrong way Bogart but after today I think I can go a few years without hearing your opinions about Gary Oldman and another George Smiley movie. =P
After sleeping a night over it, I am still kinda reeling from JoJo Rabbit.
In no particular order:
- How did Taika manage to make it sooo funny and then turn it on a dime and make you choke on that laugh a second later?
- Alfie Allen has like what - 2 lines of dialogue in the whole movie and yet was able to fully realize that character. That swimming pool scene is absolutely sublime. As is him and Sam Rockwell charging into the fray in the end in their silly get up.
- The child actors were fantastic. "MY FACE LOOKS LIKE A GOD DAMN STREET MAP, WOMAN!" - I wonder how many takes it took to make that scene, without everyone constantly breaking into laughter at a 10 year old telling off his mom.
- The sets were awesome. The credits clued me in to the fact that they shot in the Czech Republic - but that could easily have been a small East-German town. I have been on that kinda town square hundreds of times.
- The sheer absurdity of the situation. Putting a paper uniform on an 11year old child. "Go hug an American" *slaps a grenade on a kids back*.
- The absolute gut punch of seeing Rosie hang there in the town square.
- Adolf and JoJo running through the woods in slo-mo and Adolf dancing and shimmying his way through the trees.
- The 5 minutes of "Heil Hitler'ing" the Gestapo goons

Yeesh, that Eilish song is crap, unless it has the best visual opening since Goldeneye it seems even more out of place than Sam Smith's song. The trailers have the movie seem worse than Spectre and that song's the nail in not paying to see it.
Should have got Casey and Ali Edwards to make the song, I'd have have a bought a ticket just for mad props yo.
If it follows the trend of the song reflecting the movie, I'm not hopeful. Casino's was fast and rough like the movie. Skyfall's was weighty and serious like the movie. Spectre's was shit like the movie. This one is mumbly uninspired crap, so...

I mean, regarding Skyfall, I'm actually not joking when I say I think it's the only good thing about the film, but it's an incomplete thought: I also think it's one of the all-time best James Bond themes. Mostly because I think Goldfinger is the best Bond theme song, and the Skyfall theme is in similar style, almost an homage in vocal quality and concept, tone, cadence, etc. Adele is also an amazing performer, like Shirley Bassey was. Not saying that the other Bond themers weren't/aren't, but I feel that the Goldfinger and Skyfall themes really rise above the rest. I think the simplicity of both of those theme songs lend themselves to accentuating and not taking away from the vocals - really promoting the vocals above everything else.
The song itself is alright but doesn't really have any of the sonic hallmarks that make Billie Eilish a unique and interesting artist, IMO. I do miss the more upbeat ones like "Live and Let Die".

Just an utterly awesome movie.
- From the time Jojo meets Elsa in the attic, you sit there waiting for the shoe to drop, particularly with Rosie as part of the anti-Nazi resistance. Things are looking up, the war is almost over, the allies are nearly there. The Gestapo is at the door. Cue 15 minutes of tension with a terrifying Stephen Merchant. You wait for Rosie to pop in and escalate the scene, but no, the Gestapo leaves and they're all OK. But no, she's already been hanged in the town square, and I am not okay.
Watched Uncut Gems after finding it on Netflix, and loved it. Definitely a difficult movie to watch, in the sense of making me frustrated and anxious the whole time, but in a good way, somehow. My girlfriend and I were unable to sleep afterward, which I believe is due to how overworked our adrenal glands were during the film. My favorite performance of Adam Sandler's career for sure; I wanna check out the Safdies' other films now.
Also watched Noah, Darren Aranofsky's take on the Biblical story. He takes considerable liberties with the source material, of course. As a fan of the director's work, I'd say it's probably my least favorite of his films. Which still isn't terrible - I enjoyed it overall, and I liked Russel Crowe's moral torment - but it had what I felt to be sort of a generic fantasy movie vibe, and the struggle with Cain's descendents wasn't super compelling.
None of the Bond themes have been anything I'd be caught dead willingly listening to outside of the context of the credits.
I find this interesting. Some of them are legit amazing songs with amazing vocals. I mean I’ve even listened to Snake Eater from Metal Gear Solid 3 many times separate from the game and that’s basically a fake Bond song. Live and Let Die is basically a Beatles/McCartney (ok Wings) song. I’ll take Live and Let Die as a theme song over the movie (or any of the Roger Moore movies).
Looking at various "Bond Themes Ranked" lists, they are so wildly different, songs varying by 10+ positions between some, it doesn't seem to be a thing there will ever be consensus on. This may be a topic that's the dictionary definition of agree to disagree.
