TG with the triple post. I walked on Friday. They texted me on Saturday. This morning I texted them back asking if they could do 277 for 36 with 0 down and just my trade. It seems they agreed. I'm still not getting the BEST deal but I'd say I'm finally getting a good deal. I'm going there after work to sign the paperwork.
I think it's also best to avoid putting money down beyond the value of your trade in when leasing if at all possible. Primarily because if the car get's written off during the lease period that down payment money is gone, and the down payment typically makes very little difference long term on the overall cost of ownership.
In your case, not putting $1500 down made zero difference in the monthly cost. Can't complain about that.

I've decided to buy a portable charger for my new Bolt EV so I can take it with me, on the go. That way if I'm really in a bind I can always find an RV park to plug in. One of my co-workers has a brother who's an electrician. He's going to come by tomorrow after work to see about installing me a NEMA 14-50 socket (same as RVs use) on the front of my townhome and running a 240v 40a circuit to it. I already got approval from the HOA to install it.
We went to Charleston for the weekend, and I came across this absolute unicorn. I want a Delica so dang bad.

24 hours in with The Bolt and I couldn't be happier. The driving experience is great. I'm still in the cautious phase so I'm treating it like a delicate flower, for the most part. Even though I've got the power, I'm taking no chances in traffic. It's going to take me a while to develop my "car-feel" (kinesthetic projection) so I'm giving everything and everyone a wide berth. I really dig the 360, top down camera mode. It makes pulling into and out of parking spaces so much easier, especially early on like this. I really miss the blindspot mirrors my Fiesta had. Instead I have a blind spot monitoring system that flashes a light when there's a car there. I might get an accessory blindspot mirror anyway. I think I'll try out the rear view mirror in screen mode tomorrow. I am told that the screen exists at a different focal length then the mirror so you have to refocus your eyes from the road to see the screen. Some people say that it's not worth it but I'll see myself.
The electrician came by. It looks like our cheapest and easiest option would be to run conduit from the master breaker on the back of my townhome, around the side of the house (probably buried next to the foundation to keep it out of sight) and up to a box on the front. One of my coworkers installed an EV charger at his house and might have enough left over #8 wire for us to use. The electrician said that, if we do the job on the side and off the books, the wire would be the most expensive part of the whole install. It sounds like we won't have to make any major modifications and everything could be removed pretty quick and easy if need be. My HOA already signed off on the install. With all that in mind, I ordered a portable 32 amp level 2 charger. With that I will be able to charge at the car's maximum rated AC capacity. That should take me from a totally flat battery to full charge, overnight (8-10 hours). Based on my present driving habits I wouldn't even need it but it's a piece of mind sort of thing.
I thought you were talking about the old trailer socket which is 30 amps but only 120 and like... wouldn't change much faster than a standard 5-15 socket.

That_Guy, Remember to be strict about the engine break in period. Make sure not to go over 3000rpm volts for the first 1,000 miles. If you don't adhere to the break in period, the transistors won't get properly lubricated and the battery's head gasket will have issues with the O-rings when mating with the lithium ions.

No, I am not really communist. Yes, it is weird that I use this name.
Also remember to get the electric blinker fluid when it needs a top up.
This can get pricey cause EVs need the all natural organic brands.

Awwww yeahhhh boys. Ze fast charger is online! The electrician came by today and installed the new circuit. I am really glad I have an end unit because we were able to run the conduit along the outside and just strap it down through the siding. I even saved the old breaker in case someone wants me to take everything out at some point. I've got my car on the 32 amp fast charger right now. I'd done about 25 miles today and sure enough the car was estimating only around an hour to get to full. Having that piece of mind that I can go from 0 to full overnight is a huge load off my chest. The best part is, I can take the plug with me if I'm going to be traveling as a last resort. There are a lot more RV parks in the middle of nowhere then EV chargers. That's one of the reasons I specifically chose a charger that uses a standard 4 pin RV style plug. It looks like portable chargers have come a long way in the last year or 2. It used to be that they were all capped at 16 amps but now you can find them up to 40 amps.
That is some sexy as hell electric vehicle pornography.
In less sexy news it is now March in Minnesota with temperature from like 20 to 40 Fahrenheit.
When do I change my winter tires back to non winter tires?
I always wait until the temperatures are steady in the 50s. More than that, and you'll melt the tires. Less than that and your summer tires are worthless. There's always the two week period of flux where you need both summer and winter tires, and at the same time, both are equally worthless.

BMW is becoming a relationship brand. The old black ring was replaced, letting the new logo radiate more openness and clarity. We want to use this new transparent version to invite our customers, more than ever, to become part of the world of BMW. In addition, our new brand design is geared to the challenges and opportunities of digitalization for brands. With visual restraint and graphic flexibility, we are equipping ourselves for the vast variety of touch points in communication at which BMW will be present, online and offline, in the future. To be fair, the graphic designers at BMW probably also think it's crap, but they're not the ones making the decisions or writing the marketing material!

Couple of weeks in and I'm still loving my new Bolt. EVs are so much fun to drive. So far the most I've drained the battery is 75% and it's had no problem topping up overnight while electricity is cheaper. Most nights it only ends up charging for around an hour.

If you can, and it works for your usage model, set it up to only charge to 90% or 80% - apparently helps with battery longevity.

It does indeed have that feature. It's a lease and I plan on giving it back in 3 years so I don't really care about longevity. Even without the cap, the battery system has a reserve capacity to compensate for degradation and to allow for better wear leveling. Unlike a smartphone's battery, my EV battery is made up of thousands of cells that can be selectively charged and discharged. This allows the vehicle to even out the wear across the entire battery so no individual cell gets used more than the others, even when you're only draining the battery down by 15-25% per charge.
Another designer and/or brand dumping skeuomorphism in favour of flat. I should only be surprised it took them so long if that's what they wanted to do since many others have been at it for years.
I'm one of those who doesn't generally consider it an improvement, quite the opposite, but it's the way it goes these days.

Between you and me, Peggy, I smoked this Juul and it did UNTHINKABLE things to my mind and body...
I'm okay with them flattening the image but the roundel looks silly without the black border.. The marketing wank sounds like all the crap bmw sends to my inbox. It's not a goddamn lifestyle, it's a car! A lifestyle doesn't take me to work every morning!
Having a transparency with white linework on top of it is just weird.
Like... if you're gonna print that on a sheet of paper you're gonna need to fill it in with black anyway.
If you put it on, say a red surface that blue is going to clash nicely.
In other news now I also have a shiny fresh Bolt.
Coming off of my 80 mile Leaf is a change of pace for sure. I drove into town and back... what do you mean I can do this five more times??

Just got a new Subaru Ascent last week. I don't know how many Subaru fans there are here, but so far we love it. It feels just like a Subaru, just a bit bigger. It's actually bigger than it looks and feels. We also have a Forester (that's most likely going to be my daughter's now) and the Ascent drives very similarly, despite being quite a bit larger.
I kind of wanted a Model Y, but I couldn't stomach the cost. Maybe some day I'll get a Model 3.
I had to sit in the Subaru dealership for 3 hours yesterday to get some recall work done on my wife's Forester (the dealership has been slammed because there have been lots of recalls across multiple vehicles lately) so during the interminable wait I sat in the Ascent that was in the showroom, and I agree, it's basically a Forester that's been hit by an embiggening ray gun. The front seats were pretty comfy but I wasn't a bit fan of the second row seats and I didn't bother getting into the third row. The seat slider for the second row seats was really satisfying to use. My buddy has had one for a couple of months now and he (and his 3 kids) love it.

Thanks for the info, if you had time I'd love to read more of your impressions after like a month or two?
We'll see how long they take to get some vehicles to market. I'd be pretty enthusiastic to replace my Colorado with a Colorado-e or whatever, but for now I have my eye on the Rav4 Prime as a stepping stone to going electric-ish while still meeting all my needs for work and fun.

We have our nieces with us a lot, so we needed a third row. They are all skinny, so the back isn't much of an issue for them. I've never actually sat in the second row, much less the third, so I honestly have no idea how comfortable it is... lol

Absolutely. Although davidsdurions has already given his impressions below. I'd be happy to provide mine after more time with it.
We’ve had our 2019 Ascent for the better part of a year now. Still love it. If you have any specific questions, I’d love to answer them.
The only thing I can think of as a negative is that the sun roof has a weird tendency to not open fully or close properly if the vehicle isn’t in motion. I could get the dealer to replace the motor/sensor that causes the issue but it’s really not that big of a deal for me compared to having to leave it there for a day since I don’t live within an hour and a half of a dealership.
Oh, also I’m having trouble finding third party windshield wiper replacements still which is annoying. And I wish it had better fuel economy but not much to do for that until they introduce the hybrid model.
It is very comfortable for me (the usual driver), my 6 year old who hangs out in her booster seat in the third row, my 16 month old in her rear facing car seat in second row, and my wife who floats from row to row depending on the situation.

The weight saved by not painting the logo will add milliseconds to their cars Nürburgring times!
I am this close*holds thumb and forefinger a millimetre apart* from self-quarantining altogether; I'm 99% there already. I live with my mum who is in multiple high-risk categories, and as such I need to place myself under the same sort of measures she is under since our house is too small for us to isolate from each other.
It occurs to me that our two cars are going to need some TLC during this time too, and I don't really have anyone to entrust them to in the meantime. I'm thinking of taking them each out for a run probably every couple of weeks, just to keep the batteries charged, get them warmed up, keep everything moving, blow the cobwebs off, all that. All I would do is go outside, disinfect the door handles, then take them out for a drive and come home again without stopping off anywhere (both have more than enough fuel in them for now, so even that's a relative non-issue).
Obviously cars are not more important than health or lives, but does that strike you guys as a reasonable thing to want to do? (Am I stupid for even considering this?)
What sort of measures are you guys taking with your cars in whatever your current situations are?
