You rarely see someone try and sneak a middleweight boxer worth of chiba through a border crossing.
Especially considering it's legal to grow in like 6 states. Why not smuggle across state lines and avoid customs like literally everyone else does now?
Sources previously told ESPN that the proposed CBA would allow the league to expand the regular season from 16 games to 17 games at some point in the next four years (though no sooner than 2021) in exchange for financial and other concessions the players have sought in negotiations. One concession is that the preseason will be shortened to three games per team, sources said.
In addition, sources said the playoff field would be expanded to seven teams from each conference, and only one team from each conference would receive a first-round bye as opposed to the two that currently do.
The league's desire to expand the regular season has been met with harsh opposition from many players, who view an expanded season as an unnecessary increase in the risk to players' health and safety. But union leaders have touted to players the benefits of the proposed new deal, which includes a higher percentage of league revenue going to players, improvements in the drug policy and discipline policy, higher minimum salaries, higher per-team spending floors and relaxed offseason work rules.
Also, teams would only get a single player franchise tag instead of two (franchise and transition).
I'd be skeptical as hell if I was player too. Could easily see the league offering concessions like higher revenue in exchange for the 17th game this CBA, then next one oops time to cut revenue sharing back to original levels or y'all can get locked out, but we're keeping the extra game thanks.
Then again not like anyone currently playing will likely still be in the league by then so maybe they wouldn't care, but still.
Some won't even get a full game check for the 17th game. Seems fair...

That's some grade-A bullshit.
They should've pushed for full pay extra checks (with commensurate salary cap increases) and an extra bye week during the season in exchange, is my completely-unqualified opinion.

This is owners not the PA. The owners are old school and will suggest an extreme low, expect something like your suggestion in response, and then hope to meet in the middle somewhere.
And by middle I mean they'll give another 10% and force a lockout because, again they're old school and can't see their sport is dying because of this shit.
I hope you like watching the #1 seeds match up in the Super Bowl, because that's pretty much all you're ever going to get if that change goes into effect.
I don't see why that would be.
It’s rare to make it without a bye.
It’s rare to make it if you’re not good enough to get a bye?
Sure.
I mean, we’ll learn a lot about the value of the bye over the next few years, I guess. Maybe it’s just that good teams get byes and good teams make it to the Super Bowl. If so, we’ll probably still see a fair number of 2 seeds make it.
Or maybe the sample sizes are too small and we’ll learn nothing but think we have. Like, for instance, that Eli is actually a Hall of Fame QB.
I mean he has been Super Bowl MVP twice in two trips
It is nice to win two Super Bowls when you visit twice since you're likely never to go back there again, even if you play 8 more years.

He was 117-117 in his career
That 117 wins is 11th all time.
Dan Fouts was 86-84
Sonny Jurgen son was 69(nice)-73
Joe Namath was 62-63
That is correct though Drew Brees will pass him next year if he loses 3 games.

I’m honestly not sure and I’m on my phone so I can’t go look. Was Eli ever one of the 5 best QBs in any year he played?
can you feel the struggle within?

Eli getting in is fine if for no other reason than Halls of Fame are kind of dumb with arbitrary induction criteria. There is supposedly a "character clause" to the NFL Hall's selection process which left Darren Sharper out but O.J. Simpson's bust still hangs in Canton.
The only way I can reconcile Eli in the HOF is because it's called the Hall of FAME, not the hall of great players. Eli was never a great player, but he sure was famous.
A vote on the proposed collective bargaining agreement will go to the full membership of the NFL Players Association, even if players reps vote not to recommend approval, sources told ESPN's Dan Graziano on Friday.
A simple majority would be required to approve it. Anyone who paid NFLPA dues during the 2019-20 league year is eligible to vote, which is an estimated 2,100 players.
NFLPA team player reps and the NFLPA's executive council are planning to hold a conference call Friday to discuss the proposal.

They found room for every random dude who wore a Steelers uniform in the 70s, they can find room for Eli Manning

Another talking point regarding potential No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow surfaced when his measurements were taken on Monday morning at the NFL combine in Indianapolis.
Burrow's hand size was measured at 9 inches, a source confirmed to ESPN. The information was first reported by Yahoo Sports.
Per ESPN Stats & Information, the length from pinkie to thumb was tied for the smallest among first-round quarterbacks measured at the combine since 2008. Ryan Tannehill and Jared Goff, the others with that hand size, were both instructed by current Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor.
NFL meatheads are really trying to outsmart themselves here huh
The dude is from Southern Ohio and had the best modern pro-style season against a STACKED schedule, and came within a whisker of the highest completion percentage ever.
The Bengals fan base is rabid over him and they really need to start fresh with a new franchise QB
This is the easiest #1 pick since the Colts got Luck, and maybe even easier than that (due to the local ties)
Nothing gets me more worked up than NFL coaching hires and really stupid college QB analysis

Mahomes has 9 1/4" hands so clearly small hands means bad QB

What bothers me about this framing is that the executive board and player reps both are elected to be the ones making educated decisions and disseminating information to the union members.
If your executive board comes down against a CBA you at minimum should hear out what the issues are.
Especially since as a collective you embarrassed yourselves last contract.

It's disappointing the vote was 6-5. That offer should have been a non-starter and a counter offer should have been put back on the owners desk.

NFL union is laughably weak
Their careers are short so no one is willing to endure a lockout or strike so they continually vote to fuck the future every single CBA. Rolling in the seemingly more culturally conservative then other pro sports membership and you also have no shortage of good company men screaming for the owners benefit in all of these debates.

No way they are more culturally conservative than MLB and their union is iron clad. The issue is the lack of guaranteed contracts because the NFL successfully broke the union decades ago.
I mean just looking at the demographics and circumstances of the two leagues:
MLB - very international, with lots of players from Socialist Central America to balance against your red-assed white bro pitchers (looking at you Hunter Strickland and Trevor Bauer), have to deal with an absurdly exploitative minor league system, but enjoy high, guaranteed pay and long careers
NFL - almost solely American, mostly black dudes who recognize they’re being exploited by a bunch of racist old white pricks, and chud-ness seems contained to undersized ILBs, OL, and great QBs with disappointing politics, have to deal with a mind-numbingly stupid and incredibly dangerous minor league system, on average don’t actually come out that far ahead of the average American economically, before accounting for expenses to deal with the toll the sport takes on them

Top 10 all time yards and touchdowns (modern Era... What's that?)
2 Super Bowl wins (Amazing defenses? Zuh?)
2 Super Bowl MVP (it almost always goes to the QB... SO?)
All jokes aside I do believe he should get in. You don't have the last 15 years of the NFL without Eli Manning.
As polarizing a figure as he may be, he's a huge part of NFL history and his stats are good enough.
The list of QBs who win one Superbowl MVP and don't get in is pretty short.
Literally see no reason why he should be the first to not get in with two.

So I would say the answer to that question is no. He went to the Pro Bowl that year and three others but most top 5 QBs skip the Pro Bowl
Not even close. Though I think that is his best DYAR year.
