I recently finished Fallout 1 for the first time and I have to say that was a pleasant experience. I really miss this old-school feel (Wasteland 2 didn't give me that feel for some reason, though I might try it out again now that I am in the mood for it). I'll likely pick up Fallout 2 here soon. It's my favorite but I don't think I own it on any digital stores yet.

Did GoG stop carrying it? I’m pretty sure I bought a copy through them.

In FO76 news, logged in after waiting for all the inventory stuff to calm down, and I finally got my backpack. It is weird being able to carry more than I can with power armor equipped.

Speaking of power armor, did they change the availability of the X-01 mod plans so they always show up in the Enclave vendor now? I remember never being able to find the jet pack blueprint in the military wing vendor, but recently when I went to the production wing vendor all the mod plans show up. Have I just been shopping in the wrong wing this whole time, or was this a recent change?

So I recently discovered that Fallout 76 locks the frame rate to 32fps if it isn’t fullscreen. All this time I thought the performance on my laptop was due to it being a laptop. Once I set it to full screen, it runs just like my desktop. >_<

If you purchased 76 at launch I believe you also got 1, 2, and Tactics added to your Bethesda account, worth checking if that condition applies to you and you're interested. I think I own those 3 games on 3 different platforms now, not counting the beat up old CD-Rs given to me by a friend waaaaaay back when I was in high school.

I'm pretty hype for Wastelanders. I've been playing a lot the last couple of months with some friends that also have had renewed interest and have been having a pretty good time. They've been continually making QOL changes and bug fixes and the game is much better than at launch.

Fallout 1 is excellent, but Fallout 2 feels like a 600% bigger game. I'd say with the restored content patch it almost starts to feel a little overwhelming like The Witcher 3 with the sheer amount of quests and content you can find.

Picked up FO76 at a Gamestop for $20 and so far been enjoying it. Following the progression of the game I figured I could invest at least that much to check it out and so far am pretty happy with it. I've figured out crafting, basic camp building and perk cards on my own. I am curious if anyone knows of a good guide to how pvp works. I'd rather not engage in that at all but also want to do what I need to so I don't get ganked by trolls.

Also - with Wastelanders has anything been released on how it will be implemented? Will people just materialize where there were no people before? Will this add new areas that are populated?

Wastelanders is a 1 year time jump, so when you log on at release there will be world changes including new NPC settlements and questlines including new starter quests from NPCs outside starting vault. Old NPCs will also get new dialogue trees and options which should make old quests more interactive. If you reach a high level before Wastelanders, NPCs will also recognize that and react to you differently.

As for PvP, if you don't attack back you won't get flagged for PvP and so will take very minimal damage. Almost everyone plays PvE and in my experience besides at launch no ones attacked me. There's community events that happen over the map so have had many more drop in PvE coop interactions than anything else

You really can't get ganked by trolls. PvP is opt-in. If someone shoots at you, they do no damage whatsoever until/unless you shoot back. At that point, it's on...

I liked just standing there letting a troll waste all their ammo trying to kill me. They made it very anti-griefing which I love. There's really no incentive to PvP. Oh and if someone does PvP you or steal from your camp they get flagged and everyone on the server can hunt them for caps!

I think they have to fire back on you? I've never been flagged even though I was close up meleeing during community events.

Also, here's the Bethesda Wastelanders panel from the other day and TLDW notes from reddit:
    https://youtu.be/pV9d5OS8IzM

+ Map has been updated so you can interact with quests easier

+ New NPCs are of course added, a couple will immediately try to engage you outside of the vault and give you an additional new primary quest (old main quest is still available)

+ High character level does not prevent you from doing the new content outside of the vault, it's open to everyone and does not require a new character; however, it was suggested that NPCs may react to you a bit differently based on level, such as fearing you

+ There are people randomly found in the world, as well as along the path of the main questline and in hubs (i.e. Foundation and Crater, the two new main faction hubs)

+ Team-only interiors are “a private area that is unique to your character”—this is the new instancing design

+ Progress is saved less frequently in these instances

+ Instancing is going to be a big part of the future of the game, to ensure personalized stories are an ongoing thing

+ Special checks, past events, and personal roleplay choices will affect future dialogue (expressly not going to be FO4’s typical 4 answer dial, it's stated to be something more in-depth and varied)

+ Chems will affect dialogue checks—apparently you can back out, pop a chem, then jump back into dialogue and choose the new option

+ Locked dialogue checks are shown in the dialogue so you can see what you’re missing

+ Jason Mewes is Mort’s voice actor

+ Previous dialogues have been updated: Rose, MODUS, Mayor of Grafton, and possibly others will have new lore or interactions to explore

+ Endgame balance for Wastelanders is currently being tweaked based on PTS feedback (implying they're paying more attention to endgame)

+ Raiders' motivation and alignment are supposed to be nuanced by a ‘land claim’ angle; the raiders are basically bad guys but were ‘here first’, while the settlers are essentially good people but are described as ‘squatters’, so while they are clearly representing typical good/bad conflict, apparently there’s a bit more to it (at least from this dev’s perspective)

+ You don’t have to choose one faction or the other, you can pursue relations with both Settlers and Raiders for most of the game—near the end there’s a ‘no turning back’ commitment to one faction

+ Lighting has been redone throughout the game to improve dynamism (I assume specific locations as opposed to absolutely everywhere)

+ There are 2 named allies that have to be convinced to join you through dialogue checks (and maybe quests), and 3 ‘lighter’ allies with no names

+ Allies give daily quests, may wander through your camp and play your instruments, etc.

+ New events are being added: one example is Riding Shotgun, a player-initiated escort event: players guide pack brahmin through a tunnel to get outside, but raiders will be a problem

+ Bows can be modded (exploding, poison, etc.), and there are bow perks

+ Events have optional objectives (i.e. find supply caches during escort to get more loot)

+ Blood Eagles are raiders you can’t ally with; they’re always enemies (and are the main threat in the Riding Shotgun event, suggesting raiders can do this event too)

+ Cult of the Mothman members are found throughout Appalachia; there are converted locations that are now Mothman areas

+ There are also time conditions to see certain things: for example, at a certain time of day (or night?) you can see something unusual in at least one Mothman Cultist location

+ There was first-person gameplay of the Bow and Plasma Caster, we saw one of the power-armored buddies shooting a Gauss Minigun, we saw a Gauss Shotgun listed in the player's favorites wheel, and they showed but didn't fire the Gauss Pistol in first-person. Oh, and the new power fist with a sawblade attachment (observations from HoonFace, thanks!)

+ Concerning speech checks: "The funny thing is the character over here has too high of a charisma. So...we have negative speech challenges too, to where it's actually like if you're really not so great, you can choose it..." (thanks to ShadoShane for pointing this out!)

    POST-WASTELANDERS GOALS

+ Legendary Perks (level 50+): new perk system is still coming

+ Scrap existing perk cards will be a thing

+ ‘One Wasteland’ experience; enemies will be normalized to suit your level, allowing more co-op with friends

+ Camp budget and new things to do with/to your camp

Cool, taking one hit shouldn't be bad. I wandered into an event mission and another person came in but I was very cautious hoping they didn't try something and also that I didn't accidentally hit them (had just passed lvl 5 and gotten the warning about pvp). I didn't know how to team up or I would have sent an invite. He gave me a thumbs up at the end so I felt ok about it.

Since I only got to play yesterday evening I am feeling that new game mania setting in and considering if I should call in sick tomorrow and play all day. You know what, you guys make some good points; I should call in sick tomorrow.

There was never really incentive for PvP; besides controlling workshops there haven’t been any PvP events, only cooperative PvE. This might change with factions as you can now join Raiders or Settlers as part of the new endgame, but yeah prior to that if you went around trying to PvP you would just be wasting resources and caps

Even PvP for workshops was pointless since if you want a workshop you can just hop servers and it's probably going to be unclaimed.

Fallout has been a single player no PvP game for decades, but someone saw battle royale/online PvP making money and crammed 76 into it.

Then they are surprised no one wants PvP. They were just surprised their hail mary failed.

PVP is one of those things that really only appeals to a small subset of players and the majority just want to play in peace. It does wonders for "engagement" however as that subset are very vocal on twitter.

I playing it right now and so far it has been great, one thing I hate though is when a high level player wanders by and suddenly you are mauled by a level 70 ghoul.

I wasn't certain I'd be that into the way the multiplayer is implemented but I've gotten a kick out of it even without teaming up. Multiple times now I've either helped or been helped in a tough situation. Run up on someone doing an event alone and obviously struggling and I get a sniper position and begin helping out picking off super mutants and protesters. And even though I just walked in on the situation I get some credit in the event without having to be in a team or "accept a mission". Happened to me at a super mutant infested jail too. Was almost going to die and then someone came running in with automatic weapons and mowing guys down. Didn't complete that event but at least I didn't die which was nice.

Got Fallout Fever for sure right now. Ran into some minor glitches and finally found a camp position I should be able to keep for awhile (was bumped a lot originally) but Bethesda has worn me down over the years with bugs that its not a big deal to me. Being in a new area with survival aspects baked in and some new systems to explore and I am hooked. We'll see how long it lasts. I find I actually care about my camp too compared to base building in FO4 since I know people can randomly run upon it and so I want to make it look cool. Some people have made some amazing things.

Yeah, the game is worth a discounted price, it was just not up to Fallout standards and never worth full price on top of the bugs and server issues.

Luckily on console I haven't run into many bugs since launch. PC has had a lot of exploits and hackers, though luckily Bethesda has been doing hardware ID bans since a few months ago. My main issues are quality of life improvements, such as wanting more CAMP space and inventory room. Then again I've been hoarding legendaries and just need to scrap them already, but would still like more space. They've hinted that's coming with Wastelanders though. Also, having NPCs give me quests would be much more preferable than audio logs.

That said, Mistress of Mystery is one of my fav Fallout quests ever, it's really good and surprised me. Definitely the best current Fallout 76 quest IMO

I've been itching for Fallout and thinking of giving 76 another shot. It doesnt mesh with my playstyle well though because I like to take my time and the mob respawn rate kills it for me. Is that something you can adjust on a private server? Galling to pay for it but looking at it through the lens of 'pay 12.99 for one month and binge the hell out of it' might work
